I do not have a good word to say about this place, me and my family have been living a nightmare. He was always left wet and dirty. Member of staff was drinking alcohol in his room. He had 24 hour staff with him and was left black and blue. Also he had a black eye and they said it was on his glasses
where he slept. We were made to feel very uncomfortable by staff members for questioning the marks and bruises and his care. His medication was missed for 15 days and they were saying to us he was too aggressive. I have so many concerns for the other residents that have no family as it's sad to see. Luckily enough my grandad is no longer here and management didn't apologise for what we had been through, just said what time is he going and are you taking him. I'd hate for anyone else to go through what we went through for all the months. I did his washing, personal care, his bedding, which was left filthy daily and his food.

Mum has been in Daleside since July 2022. In that time she has been well looked after by Daleside's very caring and professional staff. Mum is a very specific case with individual care needs which Daleside have done everything possible to meet, including consulting with the family whenever necessary.
Mum enjoys her extended Daleside family and staff/management who look after her.

My mother was a resident at Daleside for approximately six months from January 2023 until she passed away there in July 2023. I visited my mother many times whilst she was living there. The staff were always friendly and welcoming. My mother was cared for very well with personal attention and gentleness.
The home was always clean and comfortable and there were many activities and entertainments for the residents. Although my mother was suffering from advanced dementia, during her stay she was contented, warm and comfortable in her last months.

I was reluctant at first, knowing my brother was against going into any care home and has previous trouble before in one care home, but as the length of his stay has increased I have noticed a vast improvement in his health and wellbeing. He has become more accepting of his situation and therefore hopefully
easier to nurse. The staff are all very helpful and attentive to not only my brother but also the needs of visitors.

Dad settled in really well, thanks to the brilliant, caring staff. He's a quiet man, but they encouraged him to join other residents in the lounge and dining room. They took him to the barbers which he loved. He had a lovely ensuite room. The meals were good and nutritional. Standards are high and the
home is welcoming. I'm so glad Dad had this opportunity and my thanks to the management and staff for making this respite a relaxing experience.

After a very difficult experience at a previous care home, my mum was moved to Daleside after we read the latest CQC report but the family were still very anxious due to earlier care issues. Mum was extremely ill but the compassion and care shown by the staff were excellent…so much so that my dad was
insistent on revisiting the home the day after Mum's passing so that he could thank the staff personally. There was a slight issue with paperwork from the hospital when Mum was transferred, but the home reorganised themselves to ensure Mum could be accommodated.
Myself, sister, dad and grandchildren spent many hours with Mum and there was always a friendly face offering support not only to Mum but also to ourselves… tea, biscuits and blankets. It’s the little things that make a difference.
Whilst the UK Care system is broken, you can still find homes such as Daleside, who through good management and excellent people, can help your loved ones in their times of need.

I can't fault Daleside they looked after my dad right up until he passed away in May and they were amazing. The staff are amazing, I had never been to a care home until my dad went there and they've been so helpful throughout I can't fault them. I can't thank them enough for all the help they gave me.

After a whirlwind of events my father was admitted to Daleisde for a period of rehabilitation, given the press regarding nursing homes I was apprehensive, however, I met my father at the nursing home on the day of his admission we where treated with respect and made to feel very welcome from the beginning
of his stay right through till he returned home. The staff where friendly and approachable, always willing to assist both myself and my father, he stated that he was happy and was having a good break whilst getting back on his feet. The food was very good he was given a choice each day and even made something that wasn't on the menu as that's what he fancied, everyone couldn't accommodate us enough, the staff work very hard to make patients as comfortable as possible.

My mum was transferred here while waiting to be assessed. The first night she fell out of bed, nothing was put in place to prevent this although they were told that mum tries to get out of bed. The following day a mattress was put on the floor next to the bed. The first few weeks seemed ok. But it
went downhill quickly, the staff were there just to tick boxes, that is what we picked up on. She has lost her sight and we asked that when staff did anything with her that they say to her what they were doing. But once when visiting I saw a carer go up and put her arm out to help mum get into a wheelchair, not once did she say anything. So I asked again that they would say what they were doing and then she would not be so agitated. We understood that there are other residents to care for but if they could shout and let her know they knew she was looking for help. In fact, all that she wanted to know was there was help available. She is in a new place and is treated as a person.

I can't thank the staff at Daleside Nursing Home enough for the care and patience they had for my Dad during his residency. We were met with a friendly and hospital attitude by everyone and considering the pressure these people are under on a day to day basis they deserve whole lot more credit and respect
then they are sometimes given. I can wholeheartedly recommend Daleside to anyone. My Dad was given excellent service and is now at home recovering well.

Thanks

My Mum stayed at Daleside from January - July 2017 age 96. Before this, she was in her own home with a package of care with 3 daily visits. The previous December Mum was admitted to the local hospital on 3 occasions before it was decided by her Doctor/Social Workers that 24-hour care was needed.
Mum
was moved to Daleside in January of this year.
It was a very hard transition for Mum and myself to make, knowing that this was the only way we could ensure that she would be cared for 24 hours a day.
Staff at Daleside were very nice, kind and helpful. Mum was always treated with the greatest respect. My husband and I spent days and weeks with Mum, and when we couldn't be there I rang 5/6 times a week to talk to either the Sister in charge or staff in the main office. Nothing was too much trouble and I always received the truth, even though it was not what I wanted to hear.
I have the greatest respect for everyone who works there. Thank you all. My Mum passed away on 27 July 2017.

My aunt has been a resident at Daleside for a number of years. Throughout her time she has received in my opinion the best possible care, she has many medical problems all at which are seen to at the highest standard. when visiting, we are always offered a cup of tea and ensure we are comfortable along
with my aunt. Staff strive to accommodate my aunt's needs whilst maintaining her dignity, she is always given the utmost respect. She is always presentable and often we arrive to see staff sat with her painting her nails or singing along to musicals with her - her favourite past time. Daleside has a warm caring atmosphere and nothing is too much trouble everything we ask for my aunt's needs are met. the staff are welcoming and friendly.

For 2 weeks prior to her death in October 2016, my mother was a permanent resident of Daleside Nursing Home. Visiting Daleside on an almost daily basis, I would rate this home as being; at best satisfactory and at worst, very poor.

A professional and caring team who provide outstanding support to those who find themselves, like us, needing an intermediate facility between hospital and returning home. We were met by a highly experienced and knowledgeable team, whom then delivered against a tough care plan and so much more. The
careers are friendly, gentle and nothing was too much trouble. The O/T and physiotherapist team were exemplary and they went above and beyond our expectations at times. The home is clean and welcoming, it is running smoothly by a fantastic management team and provides home cooked meals. Would highly recommend this care facility. We had a very positive experience and Mum was very well cared for and now home.

Current Review Score: 6.7 (6.672)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 6.7 (6.672) out of 10 for Daleside Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 3.3 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.4 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 3.314 for Daleside Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (13 Excellents x 5) + (9 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) + (12 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 35 Ratings = 3.314

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.358 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Daleside Nursing Home is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 43 registered maximum number of service users is 8.6. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.6 = 0.233

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
