All the staff greet our step mother-in-law with cheer and are attentive to her welfare. The carers cooperate very well, helping each other and alert to potential issues. The day centre provides entertainment and plenty of food and welcome drinks. Our step mother-in-law is pleased to be picked up but
is always content inside herself. It is a shame the pickup hours have had to be cut recently as it is not easy to get her up and out promptly in the morning.

From the moment I first walked into Sandhills Specialist Dementia Day Care Centre I was very impressed with the facility, I have been extremely satisfied with the caring attitude shown by all the staff, especially the person in charge and I feel very reassured knowing my wife is in excellent hands.
An excellently run facility which gives me great peace of mind knowing my wife is very well cared for.

My husband has been a resident in Hoylake Cottage since December 2016, when he was discharged from hospital. He was very poorly for the first two months but with the dedication, care, love and support from all the staff he has improved immensely and continues to do so.
My husband has a nutritionally
varied diet with excellent quality of food a menu is prepared daily to an excellent standard. It is very difficult to accept that you loved one of 47 years needs care that you cannot give him, but as I leave him each evening I leave confident and reassured that he is in safe hands and receiving excellent care. Thank you all.

My husband has been in this home for 2.5 years and I visit him every day.
When I walk into his unit it is like going from home to home. The staff are very friendly and it is nice to have someone compliment you on your appearance and they take an interest in everything you do and all your family.
I
join in with the social activities and sometimes I take my husband out for lunch in the mini bus.
My husband is well looked after, he is showered every morning and dressed in clean clothes.

I have been a volunteer at The Cottage for many years and during that time have observed how have the staff - including admin, cleaners, caretakers and nurisng - work to ensure that the best care and attention is given to all residents. It is a very happy environment with a well-balanced programme of
activities provided.
Certainly a place in which a family could happily arrange for their loved one to be well cared for.

Both my brother and sisters-in-law are residents in Hoylake. I have found all the staff to be very helpful and very caring towards my family. My sister in law has been in the centre for 12 months, my brother in law about 2 months, both are well cared for.

Understaffed, had to wait for ages to get in and visit my uncle. He also had to wait for ages when he buzzed, which is unacceptable.
No one is ever available to discuss issues. No password offered when I called on the phone, so confidentiality issues. Food is atrocious, my uncle was not assisted.
Nice room but more staff needed and management should be aware of basic needs (bed sores, Wax in ears, sight tests and decent food) not being met.

I can't praise the staff at Hoylake Cottage enough. The care that was shown to my father over the last few months of his life and also to us, his family, was exceptional. They are there to do a job and they do it excellently, professionally and with compassion. However, the care and love shown to us
all were more than we could have expected or imagined. From the management to the cleaning staff, work well as a team. We spent the last week of Dad's life staying with him, this afforded a window into their world. All the residents were treated with respect. The staff genuinely care for and about the residents and families. I am full of respect and admiration. I have professional experience of many care homes, and in my opinion, this is by far the best.

When mum was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease I did not plan for her to be resident in a care home; circumstances change & she is now living in the Cottage. I highly recommend the home.

The care, compassion and commitment that the staff have is excellent. Mum is treated as a person, she is not

just cared for but I genuinely believe that the staff treat her as though she is one of their own family. Alzheimer's is a cruel disease. Over the months, indeed years, that my mum has lived at Hoylake Cottage her condition has deteriorated but the consistency of the staff and the support that mum and we get is incredible. NOTHING is too much trouble and it is super to see the interaction of the staff and the residents.

We are so lucky to have mum living at Hoylake Cottage and would highly recommend it to other families.

Thank you.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.879)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.879) out of 10 for Hoylake Cottage is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.434 for Hoylake Cottage is calculated as follows: ( (79 Excellents x 5) + (14 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (9 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 106 Ratings = 4.434

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.445 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hoylake Cottage is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 62 registered maximum number of service users is 12.4. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 12.4 = 0.645

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
