Safe Harbour Nursing Home Bebington is located in Wirral, Merseyside and provides personal care, dementia nursing care and support to people aged over 65 living with dementia. There are keypad locks on external doors and doors leading to stairwells for safety reasons.

The home is in a purpose-built detached building in a residential road in Bebington, Wirral. There are courtyard gardens in the centre of the home and small well-maintained grounds around the building, as well as a car park located to the side.

The home has 47 bedrooms over two floors, some of which are en-suite with toilet and sink and there is access to each floor via a lift. Each floor has its own dining room and lounge. They care for both Residential and Nursing care Ladies and Gents.

There is a secure garden, with a ramp up to the 'Lighthouse', a building with electricity and water that is used in the warmer months. They offer a private dining area for celebrations and encourage families to join in with monthly events. This also allows them to raise money for the fabulous activities team.

Put simply, we cannot thank the staff at Safe Harbour enough for putting the smile back on Mums face and the sparkle back in her eyes!
We didn't know where to turn with her in in the months before she secured her place at the home, she had been at a loss for many years, she was very down, very lonely,
but not necessarily alone and having been diagnosed with dementia and Alzheimer's, her mood was spiralling rapidly. We were all obviously apprehensive taking the leap into residential care, but Mum had gotten to the point of no return, she was no longer taking care of herself, and we were concerned for her safety. Safe Harbour has worked miracles with her! She is always laughing, she is eating better than she ever has. The genuine love and care she receives from everyone at the home are obvious, and as I mentioned before, she is shining again. It is just wonderful to see her personality shining through. Particularly through this awful year, we are eternally grateful, we know she is safe and happy!

Safe Harbour has been a safe haven for my mother. Since moving there just over 12-months ago, she has improved in many aspects including her mood and health. She is happy, and we as a family have seen a massive difference in her for the better. All of the staff have gone above and beyond to make sure
my mother is safe, cared for and loved. From management to the kitchen staff, everybody has had some input into making my mother comfortable. We have been informed and kept up to date with any changes to legislation, especially during the Covid 19 pandemic. Safe Harbour is clean and friendly, and I would recommend them 100% to anyone having to make the difficult decision for their loved one. Safe Harbour is definitely a care home where my mother is cared for and feels completely at home.

My mum has been at Safe Harbour for four and a half years - I think this speaks for itself! She has obviously been very well cared for by the staff who are great. They know my mum's personality and needs well - her likes and dislikes and find ways of engaging her with all sorts of activities and entertainment
whilst also ensuring she has quiet time to herself when she wants it.
They post lots of pictures on Facebook, and everyone looks happy and enjoying themselves, which I also see when we are able to visit. I would definitely recommend Safe Harbour.

Since my mother has been in Safe Harbour, I have had complete peace of mind. It’s not your average home, it’s more like a family house. Until the lockdown, I was a regular visitor to the home, I’ve been at various times of the day, and it never changes. The staff must have been sent there from up above,
I kid you not. They have tolerated my obsession with fussing about my mum's wardrobe, Never have they queried it. Their kindness is just amazing. I don’t worry about mum because she is in such good hands. There was one particular day when I was sat with mum in her room (she was quite poorly) I was crying quietly to my self when I found myself surrounded by two members of staff just hugging me and crying with me. I won’t name them as you asked not to mention names. I will never forget that. So on the whole of Safe Harbour is a wonderful home. I would recommend it to anybody who has to pop their mums or dads into care. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.

This home has a lovely welcoming atmosphere. Staff all care and have great attitudes to residents and family. So glad my mum got a place here. While we have not been able to visit during the pandemic we rest easy knowing Mum is being cared for with all her needs met. The team is led by a manager who
goes above and beyond as do all of the staff.

My Dad has been at Safe Harbour for nearly a year. During that time my mum passed away. The staff were absolutely brilliant in supporting my dad and the family during this sad time. Whilst my dad found it difficult at first to settle in, sometimes doing things he shouldn't have done (the staff will
know what I am alluding to and laugh about it now) the staff have always treated him with respect and compassion and continue to do so during these difficult times. We are happy to say that Dad is well, safe and in an extremely caring environment. We will be outside Safe Harbour in the car park again this week to clap for all carers. My father has been a resident at Safe Harbour for over 18-months now, and the family are extremely happy with the standard of care that he receives. The staff are amazing, and each resident is treated as an individual and with dignity. The activities are fabulous and stimulating with staff specifically
employed for this purpose. I have visited other homes, and my father has previously resided in a different care home, but we are happy that we chose Safe Harbour as Dad is happier here and likes to participate in all that Safe Harbour has to offer.

This is an excellent care home. The staff are absolutely amazing and engage with the residents with lots of activities, entertainment and fancy dress.
I see lots of pictures daily on social media, and everyone looks so happy, and when I go there to visit my mum, again it's a lovely warm welcome.

My mum was at Safe Harbour for 4 years before passing away in January 2020. During her time there mum always seemed happy and contented, the staff were really lovely couldn't do enough for her and the other residents. There were always lots of activities to keep the residents busy and stimulated with
music, art and exercise classes to only name a few. The home was always clean and tidy. if I ever needed to discuss anything with either staff or management they always made the time to be available and listen. I would definitely recommend Safe Harbour 100%!

My nan spent the last year of her life at Safe Harbour. I could not be happier with the care she received whilst there. Dementia is an awful thing for any family to go through, seeing someone they love deteriorate. However, the management and staff were absolutely fantastic from the star. I want to

The staff here, on the whole, are excellent with one or two exceptions.
The reason for a lesser mark regarding activities is only because the residents are unable to appreciate their efforts.
The facilities lacking aesthetics is overlooked because of the excellent care and attention. My husband's
room is very shabby and in need of refurbishment but very clean.

Thanks for the review. We appreciate there are areas of the home that need decoration. At the moment every corridor is being painted and artwork has been purchased. We do have an excellent team of staff, thank you for saying so, the activities are working hard to ensure everyone is involved, but as you can appreciate not every person is able to do every activity and that is why we have one to one activities. We are constantly looking at new ideas and hope for relative suggestions.

My mother has been a resident at Safe Harbour for 10 months. I can honestly say that we could not have chosen a better home for her and I am safe in the knowledge that she has the very best of care both physically and mentally. Having a relative with dementia can be very difficult and upsetting but
at Safe Harbour, there is a close bond between management, carers, relatives and residents which has given my family tremendous comfort and support.
I would not hesitate in recommending Safe Harbour for a loved one. It is truly a caring care home.

We have been extremely happy with the care dad has received at Safe Harbour. The facilities are clean and well maintained. The staff are fantastic and have real bonds with the residents and residents families. Nothing is too much trouble. Activities are structured and the food menus are well thought
out to ensure that there is variety but also good nutrition. We can wholeheartedly recommend Safe Harbour.

My family member used to live here and I must say the care I can't fault but there is a lot of agency carers in the home. My family member was on the nursing unit. I did have a couple of disagreements with the management over the number of agency carers there were and they told me it wasn't an issue
for myself to get involved in, I think they are very rude, but as I say the care my family member recieved was great, oh and the cost of the care my family member recieved kept increasing year after year so we moved them to a different care home on the Wirral and I cant fault it there, great management great carers and respect for the family of the resident.

Kevin

Kevin Butterworth

Kevin has worked in care for over 20 years and specialised in Dementia care for over 10 years. Kevin has previously managed a 19-bed residential care home in Cheshire. This care home was rated Outstanding before Kevin sought out a bigger care home to manage and found Safe Harbour was exactly what he was looking for.


Kevin is married, has children and now has a grandson also. Kevin comes from a large family, most of whom are also n the care sector in various roles.


Kevin has brought this home from strength to strength since starting with us in June 2018. We are very happy to have him on board.


Kim

Kim Dawson

Job Title: Deputy Manager

Registered Nurse Bsc (Hons)


Kim Has been a qualified nurse for 20 years, having worked in the private, public and charitable/not for profit sectors of health care. Kim has laterally worked as a Registered Manager of 2 ‘outstanding’ care homes, as an Admiral Nurse (Dementia Specialist Nurse) across Cheshire and Wirral, and a Senior Quality Assurance Manager. Having provided education to pre and post-registration nurses, GP’s, and to local CCG staff, being published in clinical journals for her work in Dementia care, participating in a national research project with Dementia UK, and featuring in the End of Life Partnerships AGM (2017) her clinical skills are always kept up to date.


Kim is a mother of 2 and has 2 dogs that she loves. We're happy to have Kim as part of the management team since January 2019.

Emma joined our sister home in October 2019 and comes with a wealth of finance and administration experience within the care home sector. Emma manages a small team and is responsible for payroll, HR and finance. Emma joined Safe Harbour in October 2020 and is an important part of the team and we are happy to have her on board


Holly

Holly Dooley

Job Title: HR and Senior Administrator

Joined: 2018

Level 5 Management in Health and Social Care


Holly has worked in the different health care sectors for over 15 years in a number of roles, most recently as a senior manager involved in the administration, HR, and day-to-day running of multi-site care homes, achieving an ‘outstanding’ rating. Holly has led charities to success and having financial control has ensured their integrity has been upheld.


Holly has been heavily involved with service development and has progressed home’s forward with regards to their community links and by looking at improving service users daily life and evidencing this.


Holly runs all of the social media pages (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) She also over sees the activity and well being team ensuring that we have a variety of activities and manage our fundraising.


Holly is married with 2 children. We are very happy to have her on board since July 2018


Ashleigh

Ashleigh Copley

Job Title: Care Manager

Joined: 2018

Ashleigh has worked in Dementia health care for over 6 years as a Health care assistant, trainee Senior Carer, Lead Senior and most recently as a Care manager involved in the day to day running of the care home. Ashleigh is a medication champion and leads the Covid testing and safe steps (falls risks)


Ashleigh covers the Residential floor at Safe Harbour predominantly and supports the Nursing floor where needed. Ashleigh has trained in many things such as Lateral flow testing, pressure care training, medication and End of life care. Ashleigh has a Level 5 Management in Health and Social Care.


Ashleigh has her own horse yard with her partner and has dog called Willow. We are very happy to have Ashleigh on board since August 2018


Catherine

Catherine Andrews

Job Title: Housekeeper

Joined: 2018

Cath has been working at Safe Harbour as a Housekeeper since April 2020, Before that Cath worked in the Kitchen as a kitchen assistant and cook when needed. Cath then stepped in to the Domestic team when one of the team went on maternity Leave. Cath had shown such great leadership skills that she was promoted to Housekeeper.


Prior to working at Safe Harbour, Cath was a publican for over 20 years and still holds her alcohol licence. Cath is married with 2 grown Children and 4 grandchildren who she is immensely proud of. We are very happy to have Cath on board.


Gareth

Gareth Mitchell

Job Title: Kitchen Manager

Joined: 2018

Gareth has been working at Safe Harbour since March 2018 as our Kitchen Manager. Gareth had previously worked in Kitchens as a chef prior to coming here. Gareth has an NVQ 3 in Hospitality as well as a range of qualifications such as COSHH that are vital to running a Kitchen. Gareth has also trained in Dysphagia which is vital especially in Nursing care. Gareth father Gary also works alongside him in the kitchen as a Chef when Gareth is not here. Gareth also has 3 Kitchen assistants in his team.


Gareth enjoys Travelling and Cycling. He has a great eye for a bargain and often helps the activities team when he sees something he thinks may be used in an activity. Gareth is good Tech support to office staff also.


Clair

Clair Myers

Job Title: Lead Senior Carer

Joined: 2016

Clair has worked at Safe Harbour for 5 years. Clair started as a health care assistant and then trained to be a senior carer. Clair has worked on both Mersey and Dee but has been working on Dee for 3 years now and has since been promoted to Lead Senior Carer. Clair is well trained and has had speciality training in end of life care.


Andrew

Andrew Taylor

Job Title: Maintenance

Joined: 2003

Andrew has worked at Safe harbour since December 2003 starting as a domestic then the gardener and the decorator going on to lead the Maintenance throughout the home. Andrew ensures the building is safe and secure within all guidelines. Andrew is the fire coordinator, IOSHH trained and a trained trainer in manual handling.


Andrew is the Health and safety champion for the whole building. Andrew is a committed member of the Safe Harbour team and the longest running member too.


Andrew is married and has 2 daughters and 2 Grandaughters.


Catherine

Catherine Ball

Job Title: Activities Leader

Joined: 2018

Catherine is a fabulous activities coordinator, she has 47 ladies and gents to entertain on her own which is a mammoth task but she does it so well. Cath has a brilliant sense of humour as you will see in the photo opposite. Catherine and Holly raise money for the activities fund and since joining Safe Harbour in December 2018, they have raised £4000
