My mother was a resident at the home for over twelve months and spent her final days there. The care that she was given, in particular during the last months of her life was excellent. This was due to there being a change of management roughly halfway through her time at the home. There is now more
continuity and familiarity between the staff, the residents and their families. The staff seem to now have clear task instructions to which they follow in a professional and emphatic manner. My family were given comfort knowing that our mum was taken care of safely in her time of need and we will always be grateful to the staff at St Catherine’s. Thank you to all of the team.

Yet another new manager, who still hadn’t introduced herself several months in.
Food is still a big issue as a soft diet is needed. Poor quality and also a case of 'get what you're given'. Very rarely staff get her up to eat with others in the dining room.
Not always included in activities, although
we have requested her to be asked at every opportunity.

Thank you for taking the time to submit a review. Since taking up post; our home manager has held regular resident and relative meetings and been busy making improvements in the home for the benefit of our residents, including improvements in the dining experience and our activities programme. The manager operates an open door policy so is available to address any concerns relatives may have. She would be happy to meet with you to discuss your concerns in more detail.

I was concerned a few months ago, as the home went through a rough patch where the standards slipped due to staff leaving. A new manager arrived a few weeks ago and things have turned around for the better. There are new office staff plus carers and nothing is too much trouble. If something is not right,
they will go above and beyond to sort it out.

I wish my husband had received the same level of care in hospital as he did whilst he was at St Catherine's. The staff were always attentive irrespective of their role at the home always ensuring he had everything he needed. We are grateful for everything the team did and we were always kept up to date
with my husband's condition which was so important.

My dad could not have spent his last few weeks in a better place. The care he got from everyone was second to none. The staff were extremely supportive to the family at a very difficult time. I can't praise this home enough. As a family we are so grateful to them

Care and management have improved in recent months. Now have more permanent staff and less agency. Some agency staff could be better at caring not familiar with a medical condition. At times when visiting can find relative soiled/wet.
Staff went to a great deal of trouble to make relatives Anniversary
or Birthday a very happy day.

The past year/2 years have been difficult at the home, but with a new management team and more permanent staff instead of agency, things are beginning to improve greatly. The management team seem very focused and there are clear signs we are turning the corner.
It is so very important to nurture and
hold on to good staff. Some of whom have been here for years.
The staff need to feel appreciated.

My experience has been mixed. The daycare has been good but overnight not good. The staff take a long time to answer the call bell and one not sensitive to my needs. I am not happy with male carers to take me to the toilet.

On accompanying our auntie to St Catherine's we were greeted with a homely atmosphere and pleasant surroundings. The friendly and professional staff showed care and compassion dignity and respect to my auntie during her short time in the home. She received excellent personal care and her room was very
clean and comfortable. As a family we were updated regularly and sensitively regarding my auntie's condition and were offered refreshments and a place of privacy as and when it was needed. Thank you to everyone at Catherine's.

St Catherines care home were absolutely fabulous with the care given to my mother in law and her dignity was preserved. The moment we walked in it was peaceful and welcoming. We had a very thorough introduction and empathy towards our needs.
We found the service here outstanding. I recommend this care
home for anyone. 10 out of 10.

My mother was a resident of St Catherine's for just under a year, up to her death at the age of 94 in March 2017. While she was there, she was suffering from vascular dementia and was confused for much of the time and fundamentally did not want to be in a care home. Her life there was made tolerable
by the kindness and competence of the staff. My wife and I worked in the NHS for many years, and learnt to recognise well-ordered care: friendly, open staff attitudes; knowledge of the individual; routine that was flexible and fitted around the individual; scrupulous cleanliness and a comfortable, very well-maintained environment; varied and well-organised social events; and effective liaison with GP services. This is how all care homes for this client group should be run.

Amazing care home, compassionate, caring and competent staff. My Mum has been a resident here for 2 years

My sister and I can rest in the knowledge that Mum is kept lovely and clean, happy, given lots of cuddles from staff and has plenty of food and beverages.

I would not hesitate to highly recommend

St Catherine's to anyone looking for a care home.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.402)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.402) out of 10 for St Catherine's is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.602 for St Catherine's is calculated as follows: ( (82 Excellents x 5) + (10 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (5 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 103 Ratings = 4.602

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Catherine's is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 8 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
