A good experience at Cavendish Court in October 2024. Management and nursing staff worked well with care and kindness and all were polite and helpful.

It's lovely for the team to read what a difference they make not only to our residents but also to each resident's family. It was an honour and pleasure to support your husband during what was a difficult time for you all.

I feel happy and safe here and can't speak highly enough of the staff who look after me. We share a laugh and a joke. The staff make a difference to my day, I think they have been instrumental in helping me to adjust to life changing disabilities. I am treated with respect and consideration at all times
and with respect and consideration at all times and with compassion. When I have had difficult times adjusting the staff have been very supportive.

My initial impression was that it would be a good place for my wife to recuperate after a hip replacement. My wife is unable to communicate and is immobile and I immediately discovered problems with the care they provided with regard to toilet needs, moving her, and preparation for bed. The management
took these problems on board and now things are considerably better. The care assistants and nurses who have regular contact with my wife are very good and as expected some are better than others. Some shifts all seem very calm yet on others they appear to be rushing around in circles. As I attend mealtimes the various times lunch or tea is served doesn't help with organisation. Lunch has been served anytime between 12 and 1 and tea at 4:15 and 5. I think this problem may have been resolved as the last few days have been much better.
Once my initial concerns were resolved the care provided was better and although my wife's mobility has not improved which is a lack of support from the NHS her continence needs could be better supported.
All the staff from the cleaners, laundry, care assistants, nurses, secretary, and manager are all very friendly and approachable.

This care home accepted my Mother in the midst of COVID. But made her transition into a new home very easy. The staff are amazing and always do all they can to protect your loved one. The home is clean, warm and welcoming. Staff on all levels are always happy to stay for a chat. Mum recently passed
and once again all the staff members were amazing. If truth be told no one wants to see loved ones in this environment, however, my Mum was well looked after which gave family members peace of mind.

After a long period in hospital, my mum has settled in Cavendish Court very well. The staff have been instrumental in making the transfer from home via hospital to the home as seamless as possible. Mum has been treated with kindness and understanding, for which I am grateful. Activities are beginning
to open up after Covid - a lot of work had been put into the Jubilee afternoon team party.

It has been a difficult two years with Covid having a significant, detrimental effect on my mother's well-being and mental health. Overall, the staff have managed the situation well but the heavy reliance on agency staff has left its mark. That coupled with the loss of the home manager and deputy and
no activities coordinator has prompted my markings.

Reply from Jackie Hirst, Marketing at Cavendish Court Care Home

Thank you for taking the time to complete this review, Cavendish Court has recently gone through a period of change and have now in post a home manager and a deputy manager. Please be reassured that ongoing improvements are being made with recruiting the right staff for the right roles to ensure that Cavendish Court and the residents are not impacted.

My father was a resident for respite care in 2021 and for his final weeks of life this year.
Dad accepted the need for care and enjoyed the company of his carers who were efficient and friendly at all times.
I found the office staff very helpful also.
I would recommend Cavendish Court Care Home.

Although my mum was only a resident for a relatively short time, she received lovely and sympathetic treatment. All the staff were attentive, helpful and spent time with me too, keeping me up to date on Mum’s circumstances. Mum’s room was a good size with modern furniture and was kept perfectly clean.
Her en-suite bathroom was well equipped with sufficient room to keep all toiletries. The room was warm yet well ventilated with a window with a view. The senior staff always had time to answer any questions I had and the medical staff were knowledgeable and also went out of their way to find me to put my mind at ease. The lounge area is large and is well equipped. I would be happy to recommend to anyone.

Absolutely fantastic staff at Cavendish Court Care Home. My mother moved from another care home on palliative care after safeguarding issues and very poor care, it was such a relief to know that she was being cared for properly in her last days. It’s so important to read recent reviews and not the CQC
rating which could be two years old. Recent reviews of residents' relatives are much more important. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Cavendish Court, all the staff are the most kind and caring people.

The manager and deputy demonstrate a very high level of commitment to the home and have managed to put into place a very caring, capable and professional team of staff.
The home is very well managed, with good communication between management and staff, and the standards of care have significantly
improved under their leadership. Well done to Cavendish Court Care Home and all the staff!

My lovely Mum was given a place at Cavendish Court because she had tested positive for Covid and had become unwell. The staff were kind, caring and compassionate when I took her there. It was late at night, my Mum was still in her pyjamas and the staff (dressed as Christmas elves) came out to greet
us. The home manager, took my Mum’s hand, introduced herself and said "don’t worry, we’ll take care of you" and was on hand to help and another lady was sent to find us because I had got lost. The staff at Cavendish Court are so kind and caring. My Mum has Covid so she can’t, and is not well enough, to go into the communal areas so I can’t comment on those facilities. The staff are on hand to help Mum with anything. They are checking on Mum’s vital signs regularly, administering her normal medication and encouraging her to eat and drink. A staff used her own money to buy Mum a newspaper. Amazing care from an outstanding staff.

Current Review Score: 8.6 (8.644)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.6 (8.644) out of 10 for Cavendish Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.346 for Cavendish Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (35 Excellents x 5) + (39 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 81 Ratings = 4.346

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.298 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Cavendish Court Care Home is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 43 registered maximum number of service users is 8.6. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.6 = 0.698

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
