Acorn Meadow care home, situated in the beautiful part of Lostock Gralam, Northwich, supports older people to lead their best lives with personalised residential dementia care.

This newly-refurbished, cosy home has been tastefully decorated for maximum comfort whilst the landscaped garden provides a restful place for residents to catch up with friends and family or simply to enjoy the outdoors with a cup of tea. To ensure residents always feel at home, the comfortable living areas and bedrooms are all easily accessible by wheelchair.

From Care Assistants to Wellbeing Coordinators and Chefs, each and every member of the professional care team is there to make Acorn Meadow a home from home for all residents. And with a wealth of knowledge and experience in the care sector, the Home Manager leads the team to ensure residents are supported to live the best quality of life.

The catering team at Acorn Meadow care home understand the nutritional needs of older people and create delicious meals to ensure a lovely dining experience for all of residents as well as visitors. They offer a wide range of popular dining areas that provide a welcoming space to enjoy meals.

Learning about each resident’s hobbies and interests enables the dedicated and professional care team to design a comprehensive activity programme, supporting those living in the home to enjoy the things they love most. From building relationships with neighbours in local community groups and schools to arranging tours in the local area, Acorn Meadow also encourages residents to take an active role in the Northwich community.

From coming to have a lateral flow test. Very considerate, very prompt. Following government guidelines to the highest standards. Staff very helpful and knowledgeable. Keeping residents happy and cheerful the best they can. Keeping my mother well, happy, presentable. Clean, nice room. Considerate of
the deterioration of dementia.

Since my mother came into the home I am pleased with her care, cleanliness, wellbeing. The only negative thing, my mother would like to do more activities e.g outings, games, wheelchair aerobics etc.
The TV is on but sometimes DVD's should be on of their era e.g Gone with the wind, etc, David Niven
etc.

I feel if it wasn't down to certain members of staff and Dad's 1:1, then the attention Dad would receive would not be very good.

My mother spent 14 months in Avandale Lodge until she sadly passed away at the age of 95. She entered the home from hospital where she had been admitted against her will after a fall. She had always wanted to stay in her own home but unfortunately, her dementia had progressed to the extent where it
was no longer possible. After the first month of adjustment, though, she gradually became comfortable and even happy (as far as her dementia would allow) and certainly came to regard Avandale Lodge as home. The family visited her regularly over the time she was resident and it struck us all that the staff without exception always treated mum (and all the other residents) with kindness, courtesy and respect at all times. We always felt she was safe, comfortable and cared for, and never doubted our choice of Avandale as the right place for her final home. During her last days, that same kindness was also extended to the other members of the family as we gathered around her. We are grateful to the whole team.

My husband has been here for over two years and on the whole, everything has been good.
He is well cared for and always looks happy. My only concern is the clothes I would like him to be warmer sometimes and have adequate clothes on like cardigan and socks and a T-shirt under his shirt, otherwise no
complaints.

Mum has lived here at Avandale Lodge for over three years and seems happy and settled. She was recently moved downstairs which isn't as quiet as upstairs and the sitting room isn't as bright and airy as upstairs. Her bedroom is clean and comfortable and mum seems well cared for.

Overall we are satisfied with the care mum receives, most of the staff are excellent but some, only a few, let the rest down.

Mum is cared for well. Despite obvious short staffing, she always looks clean and her dietary needs are well maintained.
Staff are friendly and approachable and keep us informed of any issues. Bank staff are not so well informed ie not always putting thickner in mum's drinks, but again this is down
to low levels of staff.

The staff are really friendly and talk to the residents a lot. If you ask them how your relative is they will tell you and obviously know a lot about their residents and what they do each day. They help keep the residents calm in they're agitated. My Grandma is clean and looks a lot better than when
she first came in.

Up until the unannounced inspection, it was obvious that the home was having some difficulty in attracting staff.
This was mainly evident from the high number of agency staff being deployed, particularly at weekends. Overall I considered that this would have an adverse impact on the residents in terms
of continuity of care and safety.
Since the inspection report, it is evident that greater effort has been put into this area and I am pleased that the home now appears to be adequately staffed and the carers appear to have some quality time to spend with individual residents. I am less concerned about my mother's safety than I was pre-inspection.

I have spent many hours sitting and trying to do my best to take a bit of the burden to help staff look after my husband and everyone is so appreciative. I don't have to do this but I am glad to help while I am able.
The staff do a really good job and are pleasant and kind with everyone if you live
or visit. Making it as much as possible, a clean and really nice place to visit.
