Hazelmere House features spacious and comfortable accommodation providing a warm and safe environment, with views of gardens and nearby parkland, en-suite rooms and tasteful colour schemes.

All bedrooms come with a remote-controlled TV and a 24-hour call system and some have French doors leading out to the garden.

Hazelmere House offers many forms of care, nursing and rehabilitation to elderly residents. Residential, convalescence and respite needs are welcome, with carers also experienced in palliative care, as well as being able to tailor solutions to the needs of other medical conditions like Parkinson’s and Huntington's.

Special diets and tastes are taken on board when preparing the food menu, with snacks, afternoon tea and homemade cake further additions.

Interests and hobbies are encouraged, with art therapy sessions and a mobile library complementing some of the social occasions and events added to the calendar. Regular days out can be enjoyed such as trips to Tatton Park, garden centres, the theatre and the Blackpool Illuminations.

Dad thoroughly enjoyed his ten days stay during the Christmas period. He was made to feel so welcome by all the staff; who were extremely accommodating to his needs. The home is clean and welcoming and dad commented that 'It was like being in a hotel!'. Many thanks to everyone who made dad's stay a
wonderful experience. We would most definitely recommend Hazelmere House to others.

My mother has been a resident of Hazelmere House for nearly 12 months after suffering a fall at her home in Leeds. At 95, her health has deteriorated but we are satisfied all her needs and personal care is met. They really try to meet the resident's individual needs and assist the family with friendly
professional support. We made a good choice.

My mum settled in here much easier than expected. This must be a testament to the care and the staff. All of the staff throughout have been excellent, both in terms of care and the management/support side. The rooms are very nice, even when staying on a respite basis (so with no home touches).

There has been a massive improvement since the arrival of the new manager. There is still much improvement needed in many areas. The shower in my father's bathroom does not drain properly. The whole room gets flooded every time they give him a shower, hence the smell of dampness inside. Sometimes carers
forget to dispose of pads and urine containers. I would like to see improvement in attention to detail for carers. The glasses, dishes and cutlery are not cleaned well enough, needs attention.

The caring and nursing staff were very efficient and very caring, and very friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. The room was badly in need of refurbishment but otherwise OK.

Staff are all helpful and give useful advice. My mother-in-law is well cared for and feels she has support.
She particularly enjoys the activities which are stimulating and varied.

My mum was at Hazelmere House Care Home for 10 months. I spent a lot of time with her with her so had first-hand experience of what happens at night as I stayed late on. The most important aspect of any care home is the quality of the carers. The standard was high throughout not just in terms of technical
skills but their attitude and manner of speaking to the residents (and me). They are all genuinely caring and interested not as an act it was sincere that shone through. Time management skills were noticeably good as was their teamwork, they worked well with each other which is vital in a busy care home. The organisation of infrastructure and services is of a high standard. If anything breaks; eg electrical, someone is immediately on hand to fix. Varied entertainment is available every day for those interested, again due to the high calibre of staff running this part. The management quality is high, for example, I recently needed some follow up of documentation which wasn't readily accessible, the effort was made to acquire what I needed very speedily. Similarly, the admin team were always helpful, approachable and efficient. Yes, I would certainly recommend Hazelmere House Care Home.

We found the care of my father in law at Hazelmere House to be excellent.
The staff have been extremely caring and professional, ensuring that my father in law was always treated with care and respect and always with a cheerful disposition.
The facilities at Hazelmere House are also excellent.

My mother stayed for 7 weeks post surgery from October to December 2015 and the health and mobility improved enormously, enabling her to return home. Unfortunately her health has deteriorated and she has returned in January 2016.
The staff and management are all extremely friendly, helpful and caring.
Medical support and attention is very prompt when needed.

My mother has been in the home for 9 years until she died on October 1st. The carer she received over her time there was excellent and the home is very clean and well appointed. The staff were caring and helpful. I would recommend to anyone.

At times a bit too much chatter amongst staff and I do feel maybe there should be more staff for evening (not night). Every time I asked for someone to come mid evening they replied "We'll come when we can" and I felt such a nuisance, but I did need my bed with getting up so early (6am) I did need help
undressing and getting into bed and my commode bringing in!! I think because I try to look nice and be nice to everyone the staff think I am younger than I am- 87 in Dec! I had a bad fall before I came in which has taken away my confidence.

I have only come in for a week, while my family are away and I was very worried, as it is the first time I have been anywhere without my family, but I have been very surprised how good this home is. I can't speak highly enough of the care and attention that I have had. All the staff are amazing, nothing
is too much trouble for them to do for you. The bedrooms are spacious, with ensuite. I am not good on direction, but one of the carers will come and take me from bedroom to downstairs in the lift. If you have to spend any time in a care home, you could not go to one better than here.

Joanne Thackwell

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 2020

My career in the care sector dates back more than twenty years. It started in the NHS before my passion for occupational health drew me into CIPD in management, and eventually to a role with Bupa clinics.


Overall, I've been with Bupa for 15 years, and it was my most recent experience in managerial positions that made me so excited when I heard of the general manager position at Hazelmere House. I felt like I'd achieved everything I could with the clinics, and this opportunity just felt right.


My role with Hazelmere blends all the different skills I've learned in my career to date, from compliance to care and empathy. Every day is different though, and I ultimately have overall responsibility for everything; from the health and safety of the team to the happiness and well-being of the people that live here.


Hazelmere really is a distinguished home, and we're all proud of the reputation we're building. I'm surrounded by a really established team, almost like a family, and I think that in itself makes sure that Hazelmere feels like a home first and foremost.


It gives me great pride and motivation knowing that the team are in a position to make someone's life the best it could possibly be.

I spent most of my career working as an IT specialist in the manufacturing industry and when I felt ready for a fresh challenge and a new start, I just found myself naturally drawn to the care sector. I am very grateful that Bupa and Hazelmere House gave me the opportunity.
My first role here was actually as the maintenance person back in 2011. I'd never even considered becoming the Resident Experience Manager, but when the opportunity came up I was encouraged to apply... and I guess the rest is history, because I've been in love with the role every since.
It's a really diverse and rewarding position. I tend to be involved in a lot of show-rounds and make sure the admissions process runs smoothly. I also support all the hotel services here in the home - they can be so important in making sure people feel comfortable and reassured.
It can sometimes be quite sensitive when people come for a visit so the very least we can give them is a warm welcome and complete honesty. Trusted advice doesn't cost a penny, but it can be invaluable - and from a personal perspective, I really do get a lot of satisfaction from feeling that I'm making a different and making people happier.
