Belong Macclesfield offers 18 self-contained apartments for independent living and six supported ‘households’ with modern en-suite bedrooms and open plan lounge and kitchen areas. Each Belong village encompasses a vibrant hub for community activities, with facilities that include a licensed bistro, hair salon and exercise studio. The village model is a stunning example of how advanced design and very high standards of care can provide a new quality of life for older people.

Belong households represent a radically different alternative to conventional care homes, and operate with a higher-than-average staffing ratio and a maximum of 12 residents per household, offering a family atmosphere where customers can build lasting relationships with staff and other residents. Specially trained support and nursing staff are available around the clock to support individuals with dementia and those residents who require clinical care.

Mum has been a resident since December 2016, the care she receives is excellent as nothing is too much trouble for the staff who are extremely patient and explain everything slowly and carefully to mum. They all go out of their way to help mum when she becomes confused, the job requires someone with
the patience of a saint as it is extremely demanding and tiring, all the girls always put my mother needs first, thank you.

My wife attended Belong Macclesfield firstly for respite care in November 2016 as I cared for my wife at home for nearly 6 years. I was finding day to day care hard some days I needed to re-charge my batteries. All the staff are excellent each and everyone helpful, caring and supportive to my wife's
needs. In December 2016 my wife became a resident after another fall when she required a hip operation. I would not hesitate in recommending Belong Macclesfield as a 5-star resort as the care my wife received is exceptional and second to none.

My mum was at Belong Macclesfield for 8 years. During that time, her Alzheimers progressed from moderate to advanced, eventually dying of it. In spite of that, she had 8 fabulous years at Belong. She could not have been anywhere better or happier. The environment was lovely, the staff cared for her
like she was their own mother. She had company, friends, fun and laughter all the time. Even during her last days at the nursing care she had was first class. I cannot praise Belong enough.

When mum first moved to Belong 3 years ago we were delighted with it. The location and physical building are good and the household arrangement. Mum has challenging behaviour and the staff attitude to this has at times been poor and lacking in respect, treating her as a naughty child. The behaviour
includes unplugging her peg feed and the carpet is consequently stained on a weekly basis. Belong have been unwilling to replace with more suitable flooring. It has been difficult to get regular, good feedback from staff or manager but recently this has improved. Personal care has been variable.

I looked at many homes before I found Belong, after which I didn't need to look at any more - this was undoubtedly the best and I have not been disappointed. The care and attention to the individual residents is wonderful - as is the food- all personally made by each 'village' and my mother is always
asked if she would like whatever they have prepared, and they discuss an alternative if she doesn't feel like it. It is expensive but money well spent to know my mother is being so well cared for.

I moved my friend from another home to Belong Macclesfield to be closer to where I live and also I had visited before. The move took place in November 2015, after 15 months as the other home. Thanks to the staff she has settled in very well. I think the household method of caring is very good with the
staff are in constant touch with residents.

My Mum has been attending Experience Days at Belong Macclesfield for the last 5 years or so. She has always enjoyed them and has come home happy and laughing! Unfortunately her dementia has got worse over the last 6 months and for her safety, Dad and I, decided it was time for her to move in permanently.
As she was familiar with the surroundings and staff, it was a relatively smooth move (far more upsetting for us, than her) and she now has a lovely room with very experienced and kind staff looking after her. We know that she is safe. She still attends the experience days so is kept busy, and I visit whenever I want. Dad gets to visit regularly. He has the bonus of a lovely Sunday roast dinner when he visits her on a Sunday. They go to the Bistro together. All in all, I would definitely recommend this care home to anybody making the difficult decision to move a relative into permanent care.

Since my husband moved in permanently we have both been supported and looked after by the staff. The friendly and relaxed atmosphere is just right. The activities every day and attention of the staff keep my husbands mind stimulated. More than ever this is very good. The feeling in each "house" makes
it feel like a family but there is always his own room if he needs it or we just want a quiet time together, very good.

A very loving and caring atmosphere which lately has been constrained by staff shortages. The food is not what elderly people need - we could do with a dietician to plan more interesting and digestible meals.

Excellent care and facilities, staff are caring and well trained. Communication is very good during difficult times. Admin and management are very professional and helpful. Belong has a unique approach to care, which creates a warm and friendly environment.

I have always felt happy with my mum being at Belong. The place is homely, relaxed, you are always made to feel welcome, you never feel that you've come at the wrong time.
The staff are, without exception, always friendly and welcoming - they genuinely care for my mum who, although deep in the throes
of dementia, is always well kempt, dressed and most importantly, very happy and contented every time I visit.
I could/would've never imagined anywhere could be so caring, for the elderly as this place.
No-one wants to become old, needy, dependant; bit if this is my fate, one day; I would be happy to enter Belong as a resident.

The staff are outstanding and the comfort and care second to none. Rooms are all en-suite and immaculately clean. The main lounge and kitchen area is open plan making it possible for residents to move around and join in with as much or as little as they would like. The general feeling of the place is
very homely and much like a family environment. Mealtimes take place around a large table but if residents would rather eat in their own rooms or in the café/bistro with visiting family/friends then this is easily accommodated, nothing ever being too much trouble to staff. Daily activities take place upstairs for those who want to join in.


Sadly Mum passed away at the end of January 2016. Several staff members stayed on after their shifts had ended to sit with Mum in her final hours which was very touching and another mark of their dedication and care. We feel extremely grateful and reassured that Mum’s final days were happy and she really couldn’t have been better looked after.


Day Care:-
It was like a breath of fresh air and an enormous relief to speak to the Experience Day Co-ordinator at Belong Macclesfield who understood every aspect of dementia and the challenges it brings and we felt so reassured and confident we had found the right day care provider for Mum. Mum was collected from home daily and taken to Belong Macclesfield where she was kept entertained with many different activities from armchair keep fit and bowling to singing, craft making and gardening. The key being keeping Mum physically and mentally active whilst being sensitive to when she was feeling tired or anxious and dropping it down a gear to suit. We couldn’t have asked for anywhere better and the enthusiasm, understanding and caring nature of the Experience Day staff was outstanding. Mum returned home at the end of each day tired but happy and much less anxious, making it possible for Dad to continue caring for Mum at home for much longer than would have otherwise been possible.

Cheryl

Cheryl Davies

Job Title: General Manager

Formerly a Support Manager at Belong Macclesfield, Cheryl has over 27 years of experience in a range of care sector roles. Her career with Belong spans over a decade, from when she joined as registered manager of its home care service, Belong at Home, which she helped establish in 2010.


As Support Manager at Belong Macclesfield, Cheryl shared knowledge and ideas with Belong villages in Crewe and Warrington as part of the organisation’s job swap scheme to improve group-wide standards of care, including industry-leading dementia care.


Cheryl’s perspectives on driving standards of care at multiple villages make her ideally qualified to be a General Manager. Her background, including helping to found Belong’s award-winning home care service, also gives her a particular understanding of many customers’ journeys, which often involve deciding to move to a Belong village after requiring domiciliary care.


Helen

Helen Marsden

Job Title: Support Manager

Helen is passionate about providing the best care to customers. Her career with Belong began after leaving school, nearly 20 years ago, initially with CLS Care Services before moving to Belong's flagship village in Macclesfield when it opened in 2007. Helen worked as a support worker and lead senior support worker, before progressing to the role of Support Manager at Belong Newcastle-under-Lyme in 2020. She has achieved a Level 2 and 3 in Health and Social Care and has recently completed qualifications in Leadership, Health and Social Care. More recently Helen moved back to into the role of Support Manager at Belong Macclesfield.


Nicola

Nicola Head

Job Title: Front of House Manager

Joined: 2010

Nicola joined the Belong team as a Receptionist when Belong Macclesfield first opened in September 2007. She was soon appointed as an Administrator before being promoted to Senior Administrator and later to the Front of front-of-house manager role in 2010.


Nicola started her career in administration at a pharmaceutical company in Hertfordshire, before moving to Macclesfield in the summer of 1992, where she worked as a part-time carer/support worker in the community, for 14 years. She also worked as a self-employed mobile beautician (NVQ level 2 in Beauty and other holistic treatments) in her spare time.


Since working at Belong Nicola has qualified in Business/Administration NVQ Level 3, Team Leader NVQ Level 2 and more recently Advanced Level Apprenticeship Level 3 in Fine Line Management. Nicola also holds a BIIAB Level 2 Personal Licence Holder.


As part of the village management team, Nicola leads the front-of-house teams at Belong Macclesfield including, Reception and Administration, Housekeeping and Laundry, Catering, Salon and Caretaker.


Charlotte

Charlotte Jackson

Job Title: Village Nurse Manager

Charlotte has a bachelor’s degree in Adult Nursing, with a background as a registered nurse for the NHS.


Working over two years at Macclesfield Hospital as a Transfer of Care Hub Sister within the discharge team, she brings her broad knowledge of supporting those living with dementia to this role, as well as a strong track record as a mentor.


Anna

Anna Seaton

Job Title: Experience Coordinator

A dedicated and caring individual, Anna initially joined the Experience Team as a Support Worker before being promoted to the Experience Co-ordinator role in 2023. Her objective is to promote wellbeing and quality for Belong Macclesfield’s residents, tenants and Experience Day customers through a vibrant and extensive range of events and opportunities.


She plans the village’s bi-monthly ‘What’s On’ programme, with activities reflecting the interests and wishes of our customers. Her role also encompasses building links with stakeholders in the community, including local schools and businesses, churches, music groups and a range of entertainers. This ensures that residents continue to have opportunities to meet new people and enjoy new experiences.


Karen

Karen Burgess

Job Title: Belong at Home Area Manager

Karen has worked in the care sector for 29 years starting as a Support Worker in a dementia unit. After 2 years Karen took up a position as a Community Support Worker for Social Services, working with vulnerable adults in the community. In 2009 she worked as a Senior for the Reablement team within Social Services assisting vulnerable adults to aim towards independence sourcing care and support when required.


After 21 years with Social Services, Karen joined Belong at Home as a Community Support Worker, quickly rising to Senior, and in 2016 became the Registered Manager for Belong at Home.
