We have been very happy with the care my Mother-in-Law is receiving at Sable Cottage Nursing Home since she moved there two years ago. The home has a "homely" feel and the carers are lovely, would highly recommend the home for anyone looking for care for a relative.

We could not want a better care home for our mum. All staff are committed and dedicated to the care of the residents and take time to personalise the support needed. The kindness and love shown at all times are appreciated and valued in equal measure - it gives our family peace of mind and comfort.
Thank you.

The overall scoring of this nursing home, as posted, is unfair and does not reflect how brilliant, caring and dedicated the staff are at Sable Cottage Nursing Home. My mum went to stay with them for the last few months of her life, towards the end of 2022, as dementia rapidly took hold of her. The staff
were genuinely interested in Mum and were sensitive to her individual needs and quirks! The staff cared so well for Mum, a small example of this was that they patiently discussed with Mum what outfit she would like to wear for the day, only a small thing but Mum loved clothes. They were diligent and knowledgeable about her medication and condition and immediately contacted the doctor if there were any suspected issues. The other good thing is that the local GP does a round every week to check on all the residents. This is not a care home with many residents, so the care provided is more personal. It is not palatial but is very clean and I cannot fault the level of care my mum received.

Mum has settled so well into Sable Cottage. She loves the staff and is constantly telling me how kind everyone is and that the staff cannot do enough for her. I am so impressed with the care and attention given, and I am very pleased to see Mum so contented and happy.

My mum is currently a resident of Sable Cottage. Both my parents have been in care homes (good and less good) so I feel qualified to write a review. Mum went to Sable Cottage after hospital discharge. It's a very long way from where I live. If Sable Cottage wasn't such a great place I would have moved
mum nearer to me, but I can see how much she benefits from being there. Finding a good care home is so hit and miss, I just wouldn't want to take the chance.
Mum is very elderly, frail and has advanced dementia. She gets wonderful care at Sable Cottage and the staff are fantastic. The staff help mum in a one to one way all the time. The managers are excellent. It might not be the most glamorous, showy care home in the world but it is full of love. It also has a very mixed group of residents and links with the local community so it has a strong sense of community. The staff don't judge our family because we can't get to see mum as often as we'd like. I thoroughly recommend Sable Cottage.

Current Review Score: 8.1 (8.131)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.1 (8.131) out of 10 for Sable Cottage Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.4 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.750 for Sable Cottage Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (19 Excellents x 5) + (4 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 24 Ratings = 4.75

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.381 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Sable Cottage Nursing Home is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 39 registered maximum number of service users is 7.8. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 7.8 = 0.256

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
