We were holding a 103 birthday party for my aunt. When we got there they had gone to do much trouble including organising music!
Everybody was really friendly and kind to everybody, they were all amazing!

I cannot recommend Station House at Crewe enough. I turned up unannounced and I was immediately given a tour, shown dinner menus, shown the range of activities, shown the rooms where Mum would stay - nothing was hidden or too much trouble.
Mum loved it at Station House. She was able to take as many
of her personal items as her room would fit and the staff made the room her home putting her family photos and nik naks exactly where she wanted them.
No member of staff just walked past her room while she was in there - every single staff member popped their heads around her door and said hello and had a chat. Mum loved this - she considered the staff were her friends from day one and laughed with them during their work day. She attended art classes, baked cakes, attended musical sessions and was looking forward to a touring show visiting the home. My mum's experience here was down to the friendly, dedicated staff that cannot do enough for their residents and their families. Thank you!

Since moving in, our dad has been really happy. He has settled in really well.
We are happy with his care.
Dad says he's happy. He says that they are friendly and kind.
We really like the coffee lounge. It means that the family can get together more.

Dad has improved so much since being in your care. We can see that he is well cared for and that shows every time we come to visit. We love that we can bring him into the coffee lounge and spend time with our dad and all the family.

This home was so good to my mom during the period she stayed there for rehab. The staff there were so kind and patient with her. The care team went the extra mile making sure she got a shower nearly every day and she always looked so neat and happy whenever we visited. The management was so helpful
and explained the process to me and were always available to speak to whenever I needed help or explanation with anything regarding her care.

I’m very happy with the care my cousin is receiving and the staff are excellent. I feel that she’s safe at this care home and I’m happy that she’s well looked after. The staff update me if anything happens and they call me to let me know.

My mum was only at Station House for a week before she had to start her end-of-life care, but the care, devotion and professionalism have been fantastic. She was made very comfortable and was treated with dignity and respect. Nothing was too much trouble.
I am so glad her last care and treatments were
there.

My dad has been reasonably content at Station House. He has a nice room, and the staff have decorated it with home belongings. The gardens which he overlooks are beautiful, and my dad enjoys watching the gardens and birds.

The room is bright and clean.

The wardrobe sometimes needs some attention

- clothes are not always hung up.

He struggles with manual dexterity and needs extra help with changing channels and using his phone (but not always given on time).

The staff is caring and kind. Given the circumstances they have faced the level of care is very good.

Communication is often/sometimes difficult - accessing staff by phone can be very difficult and frustrating at times. This issue - communication - is the real problem from my point of view and needs to be addressed urgently.

Thank you for reviewing Station House care home. We are happy to hear such excellent feedback, particularly about the care and support your dad receives here. We are delighted to hear positive comments about his room and beautiful gardens and your 5-star review of the team who work here. We are aware of the difficulties families are currently experiencing in telephoning the home, and we are working hard to resolve this as a matter of urgency.

The care home staff are always pleasant when I visit. My grandma enjoys her days there and really likes most of the staff. Getting hold of staff to talk to via the telephone is non-existent. Trying to speak to any staff regarding incidents is also very difficult. When issues are reported, there is only
a brief explanation of what is occurring and no follow up phone call.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about Station House. We are delighted that you consider the overall care to be of 4-star quality, and it’s great to hear that your grandma enjoys living here. Being able to communicate with us about your loved ones is very important, but we are aware of the difficulties families are currently experiencing. We are working on a solution that would free up the phone lines to relatives in order to resolve this.

Firstly thank you to the members of the care staff who really love my mum and have made sure she is cared for properly.
For me personally, I have contacted the home manager to arrange regular phone contact with my mum as no one is picking up the phone on her wing. Between us, ten calls a day go unanswered
every day and still do. A plan was agreed with management that I would be called three times a week to talk with Mum. This happened twice, then completely stopped after the first week.
I would recommend that residents have all valuables stored in a locked safe. In July we were handed a £2500 cheque for jewellery that went missing from mum over lockdown. The manager didn’t seem concerned and didn’t respond to emails with evidential photos, as she was busy elsewhere. I have to tell myself daily Mum is safe and warm and needs more care than I can physically provide to stop myself from going mad not wanting her to be there. Lack of communication is a massive issue that is being overlooked.

Thank you for providing feedback on Station House. We are pleased that you think highly of the care your mum receives here and to hear your appreciation of the care team. Being able to communicate with us about your mum is very important, but we are aware of the difficulties relatives are currently experiencing when calling the home. Unfortunately, our initial plan to free up the phone lines hasn’t worked so we are working hard on another solution to resolve this. Station House is a busy home and residents can often misplace their personal belongings, but we can assure you that the management team took this matter very seriously and are discussing ways to minimise such incidents.

Your contactability is appalling. No one in administration, reception ever answers the phone. Tried both at least eight times. Really poor. Aware of a visitor bypassing testing by one of your staff, saying just say you did the test yesterday! Saw visitors not wearing masks. This is very worrying.
During a visit asked questions about Mum's account balance, no one could answer, really poor. Was told would get a call back when a member of staff returns later in the week. Never received any call. Positively, carers and nurses looking after Mum are excellent. Very impressed. I have marked management staff poor below as this relates to administrative, customer service, account staff etc.

My auntie has been at Station House for a few years now and has flourished since moving there. The staff are so caring and attentive that I never have to worry about my aunt's wellbeing.
I have been treated with respect and understanding whenever I have visited or raised any concerns I may have
had.
Communication has been good, although I would have liked a continuation of video calls when I have not been able to visit in person.
I would however like to say that the staff kept me informed of any medical emergencies and provided updates to my aunts care.
Food always looks and smells amazing, and her room is always immaculate when I visit.
I would like to say a big thank you to the staff for looking after my aunt and allowing me to have peace of mind whilst she resides there.

I would not recommend this home to anyone. My mum was in this home for around six weeks. It’s not what it looks like in the brochure. She was left in her room for hours on her own, waited a long time for carers to come when she needed the toilet. I was really disappointed with the standard of care.
Every time I rang to see how my mum was no one answered the phone. Very frustrating when all you want to know is how your loved one is. Did not see any activities going on. She had five falls while she was there. Please choose this home carefully.

Many thanks for taking the time to review Station House. We always encourage relatives to speak directly with the home manager if there are any concerns so that we can address them immediately. Our management team did speak on numerous occasions with a member of your family, which put her mind at ease. On the occasion we spoke with you, no complaints and concerns were made. As you can appreciate group activities have been difficult to organise during the pandemic, but with restrictions easing and a new lifestyle colleague onboard, residents are enjoying our new activity programme.

I would like to thank you all for the kindness and care you have shown to my mother over her 10-weeks stay with you all from December to February 2020/2021.
It was very difficult to hear of my Mum's accident, and not being unable to come back to the UK during the Covid pandemic made it even harder.
However,
I was able to speak with my mum many times, and she was always very pleased with her care and all the lovely staff she had to help her recover from her fractured hip and leg. She spoke of the friendliness and patience shown to her with some lovely special touches to help cheer her up, such as making sure she had the bird table in front of her window to watch the birds and squirrels, the nurse carers getting her favourite bread for her toast and jam, the books and magazines they picked out for her, and so many nice chats she had with you all. All of these special touches and the nursing and physiotherapy made such a difference to her, and we all very grateful to you.

I was recently at Station House for rehabilitation care after breaking my hip. I was there for two weeks. The home was clean and the staff were extremely helpful, caring. I could not have wished to stay in a better place. It was a funny, happy team. The food was excellent.

This care home leaves a lot to be desired. My mum was admitted for respite with a broken leg and diabetes. She was hardly moved from her dismal room in the three months of being there which led to her getting low and depressed. The food was also of extremely poor quality and not of a balanced diet for
a diabetic nor anyone else for that manner. I raised concerns to the management team on a few occasions to no improvement.
I then discovered that my mum was not receiving the medication that she should have for the osteoporosis and questioned this. This went on for a further 3 weeks and still had not been given the medication.
She then unfortunately, had a stroke and was admitted again to hospital.
I would never wish for anyone I know and love to be admitted to this supposed care home.

Reply from Samantha Debenham, Personal Assistant at Station House

Thank you for your feedback on Station House in relation to your mum’s respite stay. We were concerned about the issues you raised during your mum’s stay. Whilst we managed to resolve those concerns that were within our control, we recognise that the hospital did not prescribe your mum’s medication at discharge, which caused delays.
Because the GP assigned to your mum on her discharge was not from the GP practice linked to our care home, the GP had to follow the full, and lengthier, process before he could prescribe.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.880)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.880) out of 10 for Station House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.0 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.857 for Station House is calculated as follows: ( (60 Excellents x 5) + (10 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 70 Ratings = 4.857

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.023 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Station House is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 71 registered maximum number of service users is 14.2. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 14.2 = 0.423

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Julie

Julie Okhae

Job Title: Home Manager

I’ve been a Home Manager since 2007 and have achieved my Level 4 leadership and management qualification as well as leadership in dementia accredited by Worcester University.

I worked for another large organisation previously, and I liked the structure and support that I received. I felt that Care UK was a perfect fit for me, and I really took on board the Care UK visions and values.

I believe it’s important for a Home Manager to be patient, kind, and have good communication skills. You need to work with the team to provide the best possible care for residents within the home and improve the team’s skills to provide a pathway for progression.

I love spending time with residents, and I feel proud when I see they are happy and well cared for. The most important part of my role is to ensure that residents are safe and well cared for and that the home is maintaining quality in line with CQC regulations.

I enjoy mentoring colleagues and supporting them to succeed in their careers. All the Team Leaders at Station House have progressed from being a carer, and I enjoy seeing them grow and develop. I feel happy when I see that the team is happy and working together as a team.

I also feel proud when the home has positive feedback from residents, relatives and visiting professionals.
