I spent a long time looking to get my brother into a care home because I do not live in Preston and he was very sure to keep going at home. But over Christmas, he agreed. The process was stressful, from hospital to locating a care home, but once we found it, everything changed. Banksfield Nursing Home
was very helpful from the beginning to the end which, unfortunately, was very short. Admin and manager explained the process and how they operate. The staff seemed happy in their job. We were allowed to bring stuff from home to put in his bedroom and the caretaker put them up without any issues.

Thank you for the honest and kind feedback for Banksfield. We know how stressful the decision-making process can be, especially for our residents and their loved ones. We are so thrilled that you chose Banksfield to help care and support your brother. The team will be delighted to hear your warm words of recognition, thank you again for the review, have a lovely day.

My dad was admitted to Banksfield Nursing Home having been discharged from hospital with terminal cancer. In the relatively short time he has been there, he has been extremely well cared for and looked after. He has actually commented to me 'what a really nice place this is'. Logistically, it could
not better as my mum still is at home just 2 minutes away. Overall, I could not be happier with the care he is receiving. He is always clean and tidy. Overall impression has been excellent.

Mum's situation is made happier by the wonderful staff. They take time to do the care work but also to sit and talk to her taking interest in the person she is/was.
Mother's unusual food requests are met with helpful suggestions varying an already excellent menu.
All visitors are met with a smiling
welcome and hospitality. My 94-year-old father is helped to book his taxis for his travel home. He visits at least 4 times a week.
Her room is bright and cheerful with her own things brought in to make her more comfortable.
Nursing care is ongoing but any extra help with pain relief etc is prompt and efficient.
Mum's stay at Banksfield started on a discharge to assess but has turned out to be serendipitous. A perfect match for her needs and comfort.

The care that my father is receiving is fantastic. The staff obviously look after the residents with care and compassion. Dad is always clean, tidy and happy and the improvement since he became a resident here is remarkable. The high quality of care is also extended to family and friends of the residents
who are made to feel extremely welcome and it is an absolute joy to go and visit Dad here.

When my husband came into Banksfield Nursing Home, he hadn't had a haircut for over a month or shaved for over a month and had not eaten for over two weeks. He was very poorly. But now, after three weeks in the care of this home, the change is remarkable. He has Alzheimer's so is still poorly but now
he is eating, he is clean, his hair is cut and he has regular showers and shaves.
Very happy with his care at this home.

After going into special measures last year, the new manager and area manager seem committed to raising standards, they have moved the Dementia unit downstairs which I think is so much better for the residents. The staff when I visit seem very caring to my husband and me, especially now they are trying
to recruit permanent staff.

My mother has been a resident at Banksfield Nursing Home for approximately four years. In that time I have not had any major cause for complaint and have mostly been satisfied with the way that she has been looked after. The staff are very caring and seem to have the residents best interests at heart.
I think that the recent change in management has made a noticeable improvement as well.

On one visit to my sister, she was dressed like a dishevelled down and out. Awful, hair uncombed, T-shirts 3 and 3 jumpers and a pair of men's pants on inside out. If I was someone looking around to place a sibling or parent I would walk out straight away. I cried and was very upset. Some of the staff
were very accommodating, some not at all. I think the bathrooms are not fit for purpose, needs updating, but I was assured decorating is not in the pipeline.
Please, please restore all the activities. Quite a few items have gone missing, clothes etc.

Mum is 80 and needed to be discharged from hospital into a setting where her nursing and care needs arising from a sudden deterioration in her Dementia and Alzheimer's could be properly assessed under the NHS discharge to assess process. As she needed an EMI setting there were few options and we were
under pressure from the hospital to agree to a placement. A desktop review of Banksfield didn't look promising as it is rated as requiring improvement, but as soon as I walked through the door my doubts began to recede. My sister and I agreed to her being discharged to Banksfield and we're very happy with the decision. There is still work to be done at Banksfield and we have seen CQC inspectors on several occasions, but the attitude of all the staff and the senior management team towards providing the best possible care have impressed us and they are working hard to fix the remaining issues. The care mum has received has been excellent, far better than the current CQC rating would suggest.

Thank you for your positive review, we truly appreciate the trust you place in us! We are currently working hard to improve our CQC rating so it can reflect our loving and caring team.

Not very happy with the care my sister is receiving. She has dementia and is not being well cared for to a good standard. Since March 2020 she has had nearly all clothing and toiletries taken, plus photo frames that reminded her of the family. We are putting names on her belongings but still, things
are being taken. Also, she needs a hairdresser plus a chiropodist. If we had to mark the home out of ten, I'm sorry but it would of be two.

My experience is that the staff are caring and helpful and are really concerned about the wellbeing of the residents. They have a difficult job to do, one that many of us would struggle to do. They deserve our respect and admiration. Some things in any residential home require resources, i.e. money,
to improve. As a society, we need to decide what our priorities are. Residential care should be a priority for the UK government.

A very welcoming care home which made great aunts last month very comfortable. All the staff were very welcoming and had a high priority for patent dignity. They managed to get her out of bed and into the communal room on several occasions which really lifted her spirits we can't thank Banksfield enough

Can't thank the management and staff enough for the care and compassion shown to my aunt during her stay. All her needs were met, her religion was important to her and she saw a priest within 30 minutes of arriving.
The management and staff made us feel welcome at every visit and nothing was too much
trouble.
I would recommend this care home to anybody requiring nursing care, it is well lead with excellent staff.

Our rascally father spent the last six weeks of his life in the wonderful care of the Banksfield staff.
From the outset, it was his home and my brother and I felt that it was ours too.
The staff work very much as a team and nothing was ever a problem.
Latterly, he displayed some challenging behaviour
and this was dealt with compassion.
There was dignity throughout his stay.
I would like to think that if I was ever placed in the situation where I required nursing care that Banksfield is still here.

We would like to say a very big thank you to all of the staff - you are truly wonderful.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.795)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.795) out of 10 for Banksfield Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.895 for Banksfield Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (96 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 105 Ratings = 4.895

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Banksfield Nursing Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 42 registered maximum number of service users is 8.4, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Simon Linaker

Job Title: Registered Manager

Welcome to Banksfield Nursing Home! My name is Simon Linaker, and I am proud to share my journey through the social care sector, a field I've devoted the last five years to, after 8 fulfilling years in healthcare. I began my career humbly as a Hospital Porter and Nursing Assistant, an experience that allowed me to witness firsthand the intricate dynamics of patient care. Through hard work and dedication, I became a Registered Adult Nurse in 2019 where I developed my passion for social care. My current role as Home Manager, I strive to create a safe and nurturing environment for all service users. My passion for falls prevention has led me to conduct an evidence-based dissertation that I successfully implemented in my working environment, underscoring my belief that the safety and well-being of our loved ones is the utmost priority. With a Level 5 qualification in leadership and management, I remain committed to continuous improvement, ensuring that our practices reflect the highest standards of care.

In my role, I not only focus on the physical aspects of health but also advocate inclusively for the LGBTQ+ community, demonstrating that everyone deserves to feel welcome and respected within our nursing home.

I am optimistic about the positive changes we can collectively bring about in social care, fostering an environment where dignity and respect are paramount. My goal is to lead by example, encouraging my staff to embrace diversity and treat each service user as an individual with unique needs and experiences. Together, we can create a space that is not only safe but also vibrant and inclusive, allowing each person to thrive. I firmly believe that with compassion and understanding, we can make our community stronger, one service user at a time.
