The staff are very friendly, that was the first thing we noticed when first visited. They do lots of different activities and also take the residents out often which is great. My father-in-law is very settled and happy which is a great relief for us. Very happy with White Ash Brook and would certainly
recommend it.

When my husband had to go into care, I was devastated. I felt bereft. I'd looked around many care homes and was not happy with what I found. That was until I found White Ash Brook! What a refreshing, happy place it is. From my first enquiry to my husband going, they (the staff) could not have made it
any easier. We are both looked after, not just him. My well-being is as important as my husband's. He is looked after very well and is smiling again. The home is light and airy with outside space, and the staff are always available to speak to. Any issues are sorted immediately.

My mum was admitted as part of the discharge to assess the process. She was at White Ash Brook for 17 nights before she passed away. The staff were lovely and treated my Mum with compassion and dignity in the last few days of her life.

White Ash Brook is the best care home in the area without a doubt!
My father lived here for nearly two and a half years and the staff are incredibly helpful and caring with the welfare of their residents being of paramount importance to them. Dad was admitted in December 2020 with multiple medical
needs/dementia (which was when you couldn't go into care homes and look around) and it was the most awful decision I have ever had to make, placing him somewhere that I hadn't checked out beforehand, but the Manager, the Assistant Manager (at the time) and the whole team bent over backwards to ease my fears and couldn't do enough to make dad happy and comfortable. Special thank you to the team the maintenance man as well - honestly if I could, I would name them all as they all played a part in keeping Dad well looked after and happy!
The manager and her deputies/staff are all wonderful people and a credit to the Each Other Care group.

Reply from Lisa Valentine, PR and Communications Manager at White Ash Brook

Thank you so much for the lovely review. We strive to provide the very highest standard of care at White Ash Brook and are so pleased you shared your and your dad's experience with us. Community is really important to us as a family-owned provider, and we like to work as a team to make sure our residents and their families are part of that too. Thank you again.

Thank you for taking such good care of my Dad. You have all taken a personal interest in looking after him, ensuring he has felt at home. It was obvious Dad had a good rapport with the staff and it was lovely seeing the banter the staff had with him. Along with the medical support which was at times
challenging, you all did a great job!

Right from the start, I felt complete confidence in the care and professionalism of the staff at White Ash Brook. I was looking for respite care for Mum while I went on holiday, she has never been in residential care so both she and I were anxious. We had nothing to worry about, both the manager and
assistant manager came to meet Mum at home and discuss her needs and preferences so that when she moved into the home she felt at ease. When I took her we were welcomed by the manager who showed us to Mum's room and gave us time to help her unpack and settle in. A member of staff was assigned to show Mum around and take her to the dining room etc until she knew her way around. The following day the activities co-ordinator had even arranged bingo a particular favourite activity of Mum's. I was able to go on holiday knowing that Mum would receive the care and support she needed while enabling her to have independence. Mum really enjoyed her stay and has said that she would go back anytime.

From the moment that I contacted White Ash Brook Care Home I felt that it was where I wanted my dad to go. I spoke to the manager at length on a number of occasions and every time she gave me confidence in the care my father would receive and alleviated all my worries with his fragile condition and
moving him from another home. We finally managed to move him in March 2022 and albeit it was for a very short period of time before his passing, his time with White Ash Brook was spent in a home that I really felt was an extension of our family. We were always greeted by name and the manager or deputy provided us with a full brief on Dad's condition when I arrived each day. All the staff that I spoke with either directly caring for my father or just going about their work, were all very polite, helpful and respectful and always made me feel welcome. The home is lovely, welcoming, clean and homely. I can’t recommend White Ash Brook enough for anybody seeking to place a loved one.

My experience of White Ash Brook has been a very pleasant experience. My mother had been accessing White Ash Brook for many years and since new management (2019) took over the care, the overall service has been fantastic. All the staff I was involved with were extremely professional and the care my
mother got was second to none. The manager was so compassionate with me and nothing was too much trouble for her.
I was very impressed with the activities my mother was engaged with which helped her mobility and mental health. I felt that my mother was well looked after, happy and safe which was a big relief for myself.

I ring my friend every week since September 2020 and she loves it here. Every conversation we have is always about me asking if she likes it here and the answer is always yes. She's settled in very well with the help of the wonderful and friendly staff that you all are to me and my friend. I can see
all the residents are happy here too as I see how they are with the staff. I could not fault it in any way. Keep up the good work.

My grandmother has recently moved to White Ash Brook. We were really nervous as a family, as we have always cared for my grandmother. I can honestly say it's a home from home, nothing is ever too much. We receive regular updates and the manager gives us input and updates on the home. The staff are wonderful
and my grandmother says the food is beautiful. Wonderful home and very caring. We cannot recommend it enough. Thank you for keeping my grandmother safe.

My Mum was a resident on the Dementia Unit in White Ash Brook Care Home for a few months until she passed away in May 2020. Despite the relatively short period of time Mum was there, I felt confident from day one, that this was the best place to meet Mum's needs. This was not a choice made lightly,
having experienced worries around Mum's care when she was a resident in a previous Care Home. From the moment the staff at White Ash Brook met Mum right up until the day she passed away, everyone treated her with compassion, dignity and a genuine love. Whenever I visited, (always unannounced), staff were busy engaging meaningfully with the residents. They always had time to talk to me about my Mum's well-being and Mum herself always looked well cared for and happy. Staff at White Ash Brook also care about the welfare of the family of their residents and I would recommend them to anyone seeking tender, loving care for their family member.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.095)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.095) out of 10 for White Ash Brook is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.929 for White Ash Brook is calculated as follows: ( (65 Excellents x 5) + (5 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 70 Ratings = 4.929

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.166 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for White Ash Brook is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 53 registered maximum number of service users is 10.6. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.6 = 0.566

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Marie Barnes

Job Title: Registered Home Manager

My name is Marie, Manager at White Ash Brook. I started my journey in health care when I was just 22 years old, and from that first role, I knew I was never going to do anything else other than work within the sector.

I began working in the community going to peoples' houses, helping them with all their needs. This lasted for many years, and I really enjoyed it but I realised if I wanted to make more of a difference, I would be better placed inside a care home, being able to learn from more experienced carers. This gave me great insight into what path I wanted to take.

After many years of experience, I decided it was time to gain my qualifications. After I gained all my NQS and management qualifications, I was promoted from being a senior to care co-ordinator, before landing my first role as a Registered Manager.

With many years of experience behind me, I am now delighted to be working here at White Ash Brook, where we promote independence and well-being through our vast range of activities such as gardening, exercise, days out in the community and more.

It’s all about putting people first, and we offer ongoing training and development opportunities for our team to make sure they always provide the very highest levels of care. We are always open for a brew and a chat as we feel it's not just about who we support, it's also about involving the community.
