When I came to look around White Ash Brook in February 2018 I had already been to look around another one which I wasn't really keen on but as soon as I came here I was impressed by first, the cleanliness and was pleased to see wooden floors. The atmosphere was good, the residents that I saw seemed
content and clean and well cared for. So it was an instant, yes and I knew my dad would be well looked after.

Wonderful experience as I felt safe and secure in visiting my mother in these strange times with the Coronavirus.
I found the staff very welcoming and they make a lovely cup of tea.
This was my first visit and hope to visit again soon.

White Ash Brook Care Home is such a lovely place for residents. It has a very homely atmosphere and visitors feel welcome at any time. Standards are amazing both in cleanliness and caring terms. My mam is looked after exceptionally well, she is happy and cared for. Relatives are kept up to date with
everything that is going on and the staff are absolutely amazing.

My father was in White Ash Brook from August 2018 to his death in April 2019. During that time he had exemplary care from the staff who always treated him with respect dignity and kindness. As a family, we could not have wished for a better place to care for him, and can find no fault with the home
or its staff.

The place was clean and tidy, the residents were always dressed and looked after and all the staff (from cleaners to managers) clearly cared for the residents and their visitors.

I cannot recommend the place highly enough and would have no hesitation in advising someone to look at the home for a member of their family.

For a resident suffering dementia, old age wanting long-term care, the home was excellent. It was clean, tidy - rooms were nicely decorated, activities are done for the residents. The staff promote a homely atmosphere for the residents. For a resident needing rehabilitation following a fall or surgery,
it was not good - as no regular regime for physio exercises are encouraged or even done with a resident. Equipment to move such a resident takes far too long for it to be ordered - so residents feel trapped in the room - as not able to leave it without equipment.

Greeted with warmth and very welcoming smile. I had no appointment and turned up at tea time! Met with the manager but two members of staff asked if I was Ok and if they could get me a drink (very warm day). The place is inviting. Clean and the staff have always got a smile and hello for everyone. Dad
has settled very quickly and is very happy which is due to predominately the staff but nice surroundings as well.

Tha manager and all the staff made a very difficult decision extremely easy. So supportive, very proud of the services they offer and I found them to be professional but so friendly. Gran settled straight away, no "demand" was too much trouble. Very family orientated service. Staff work very hard to
provide high standards of care. Would recommend (and already have) to anyone.

My husband has been at the home for just over two weeks. He has settled in very quickly and communicated with people, something that he hasn't done for a long time and joined in socially which is a big improvement for my husband - seems to be the perfect place.
The staff are very friendly and caring
- would recommend White Ash Brook to anyone looking for a place for their loved one.

We attend White Ash every week to give residents an opportunity to read and discuss bible accounts. The staff and residents have supported us to establish a routine and the activity is enjoyed by all who wish to attend. Thank you to all who have made this a success for so long.

Could be better. Not many activities. Rooms could be improved as decorations a bit tatty.
The staff are good but the turnover is large, lots of agency staff as a result, this is not good for staff and residents morale.

Reply from Tracey Leverton, Marketing at White Ash Brook

Thank you for the opportunity to discuss your concerns one on one. I am glad you are reassured by the improvement efforts underway at the home. The refurbishment programme is well underway with a new activities programme which makes good use of the minibus, so there’s a lot to look forward to in weeks to come. Thank you for the positive comments on food, drink and staff which is lovely to note. I have no doubt both you and your friend will be delighted when she moves into her newly refurbished room later this month.

My sister chose this home for my other sister. When I went everyone was great from reception and all the staff. The facilities inside and out were great with outdoor space for the residents to enjoy. There is ample parking. The kitchen has a five star rating. I was always offered a cup of tea and
coffee and the residents offered a choice of sandwiches and soup.

White Ash Brook has been dads home for nearly 2 years and during this time he has settled in amazingly well. We tried other homes before this one but none have been as helpful or understanding in the more difficult circumstances when things don't always go to plan. White Ash Brook Care Home boasts good
views, green space, post office and general store within easy walking distance and only a short bus trip away is Oswaldtwistle Mills. All rooms have ensuite facilities and the home is exceptionally spacious. Overall verdict - excellent!!!

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.095)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.095) out of 10 for White Ash Brook is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.929 for White Ash Brook is calculated as follows: ( (65 Excellents x 5) + (5 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 70 Ratings = 4.929

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.166 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for White Ash Brook is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 53 registered maximum number of service users is 10.6. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.6 = 0.566

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Marie Barnes

Job Title: Registered Home Manager

My name is Marie, Manager at White Ash Brook. I started my journey in health care when I was just 22 years old, and from that first role, I knew I was never going to do anything else other than work within the sector.

I began working in the community going to peoples' houses, helping them with all their needs. This lasted for many years, and I really enjoyed it but I realised if I wanted to make more of a difference, I would be better placed inside a care home, being able to learn from more experienced carers. This gave me great insight into what path I wanted to take.

After many years of experience, I decided it was time to gain my qualifications. After I gained all my NQS and management qualifications, I was promoted from being a senior to care co-ordinator, before landing my first role as a Registered Manager.

With many years of experience behind me, I am now delighted to be working here at White Ash Brook, where we promote independence and well-being through our vast range of activities such as gardening, exercise, days out in the community and more.

It’s all about putting people first, and we offer ongoing training and development opportunities for our team to make sure they always provide the very highest levels of care. We are always open for a brew and a chat as we feel it's not just about who we support, it's also about involving the community.
