Staff are caring and thoughtful toward Mum and myself, the team always listen to and answer my questions. I feel Mum is well cared for. Mum has said that she is happy at Moor Park and likes it. Reception staff are cheerful and helpful.

My daughter has been at Moor Park House for over 10 years following a global devastating brain injury at age 17. Since the first meeting, the staff have treated my daughter with respect and understanding. They approach medical care diligently and above all, they try to do things 'the way Paige would
want them to be done'.

Reply from Lindsey Bowser, Manager at Moor Park House

Thank you. We adore your wonderful daughter, and will continue to work with you and for her to ensure she is looked after how she deserves.

My grandmother was incredibly well cared for before she passed away. She was challenging to care for with advanced dementia but they really took the time to get to know the real her. I was incredibly moved when so many of them attended her funeral. This place is so special and operates with so much
heart.

Very caring and friendly staff. My brother is very well looked after and he is happy at Moor Park.
Staff are approachable and keep me informed on a monthly basis how he is getting on as I live too far away to visit frequently.

A wonderful care home, providing exceptional person-centred care to my brother. From the moment you walk in, it feels so homely and welcoming. The home is spotlessly clean and the food is nutritious. All the staff are professional and friendly and the communication with family is to be commended! We
can't thank you enough for your commitment and dedication to caring for our family member in a safe and happy environment.
Thank you to each and every one of all the staff.

Plenty of space and a pleasant outlook. Communication between staff levels unsatisfactory. It was 2 months before mashed meals were given despite numerous requests of kitchen and care staff. We took our own food in as we couldn't rely on suitable soft food. We had to ask staff if medication has been
administered as there was no visible record, and often meds were given when we asked about it. Not enough staff to give extra time - but staff were pleasant and helpful when interaction was required.

Reply from Lindsey Openshaw, Manager at Moor Park House

Hi, Sorry to hear there were elements you were unhappy with. As there was no SLT requirement for soft options occasionally normal meals were requested, or if we provided softer options they were refused. As we had no capacity concerns we do consider what the resident requests. Our medication system is electronic, and for confidentiality purposes is not visible or accessible in rooms - however we can always offer a copy of this on request. As manager there were meetings set up to streamline communication across the family, and open email access which appeared to work well after initial teething problems, so I am sorry to hear this didn't meet your expectations. Thank you for your honest review however - this will be helpful to people considering a placement with us.

My husband moved into Moor Park in August 2021 as a stroke survivor of 14 years. We were very reluctant for him to go into a nursing home at first but are highly delighted with the wonderful care he has received from the beginning of his stay. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff in all departments
and we can recommend Moor Park House without reservation.

My wife has been in the home for over a year having been transferred from hospital for rehab. We have been happy with the treatment she has received during her time there. Covid and government restrictions have made it difficult for everyone to operate in the way they would wish during this period
but the home has coped well with the dynamic situation. She is well cared for in a nice and safe environment.

My experience of care homes is limited to the one my wife resides in, Moor Park House. She has been a resident there from November 2020, being discharged straight from hospital. I was given no choice in the matter as to which home she should go to, so I have no way of knowing whether Moor Park is good
or bad? However, the staff are caring in carrying out their various roles and nothing seems to be too much trouble, although at times there appears to be not enough of them. She appears to be happy and well cared for, although this is diffcult to judge due to her condition. She does join in the various activities when the mood suits her. There are times when she complains about the variety of food that she gets. I would be happy to recommend Moor Park House to anyone looking for a nursing home.

I have had over 25 years of experience in Blackburn, Lancashire County Council Social Services departments and initially had reservations about placing my wife in one of the homes but must confess these fears were put aside once she had settled in Moor Park. I found the staff were superb and couldn't
thank them enough.

The staff at Moor Park are wonderful; they treated our Dad with loving care and respect at all times. Dad’s room was lovely and peaceful. As we are a large family, Dad had lots of regular visitors, and we spent many happy afternoons with Dad. Dad didn’t join in any of the activities, but we saw lots
of evidence of artworks etc around the home. Unfortunately, due to lockdown, our visits could no longer happen. As Dad is not into technology, we sent in lots of cards and letters for Dad, which the staff read out to him. We as a family, appreciate everything that was done for Dad. We highly recommend Moor Park to anyone looking for a home for a loved one.

Thank you for all your kind words about Moor Park House. I will certainly pass on your thoughts and appreciation to all the staff. The lockdown has affected everyone greatly one way or another I just look forward to the day we can re-open the doors, what a party we all will have. Stay safe and thanks again.

My dad was admitted to Moor Park House for palliative care, staying there for several months. Without exception, all the staff showed an excellent standard of care and compassion not only to my dad, but also to my mum, sister and other members of our family. They built a special relationship with him,
which was really appreciated at this difficult time. We would not hesitate in recommending Moor Park House, and thank them for their care.

Mum had a stroke and heart attack and was admitted to Moor Park for end of life care. She survived a year there, over which time Dad never missed a day visiting her.
Mum was often asleep when we visited, so my fear was that that's how the staff would see her, and would just treat her as just another
case. I couldn't have been more wrong - the care she received was as good as we could wish for. Speaking with the wonderful care assistant this morning as we packed her things, it was clear that the staff had seen more of mum's personality than we could have hoped for - they'd cared for her, appreciated her, done their best for her, laughed with her and she could not have been in better hands. All the staff we met were lovely, some hysterically funny, and all of them seemed to care. I am so grateful Dad feels he chose well for mum in Moor Park. He has no regrets, and that means everything. Thank you to all the amazing staff who cared for mum - you are simply great.

Reply from Janet Farrington, Manager at Moor Park House

I am so pleased that we have provided care for mum in a such a way as to elicit such positive endorsement of our care at Moor Park House. It is so lovely to get this recognition for our team at what must be a very difficult time for the family.

My sister received very good care in the palliative wing of Moor Park. The staff, whether nurses or care assistants, were respectful, sensitive and kind as well as being skilled in their work. They did everything possible to keep my sister comfortable and free of pain and befriended her. They supported
me and my other sister through this difficult time. Office staff, cleaners and everyone we came into contact with were helpful and caring.

Reply from Janet Farrington, Manager at Moor Park House

It is very pleasing when the work of all our team is recognised especially when it is at such a stressful time in someone's family life. I am very glad that we were able to care so well for your sister and family members. It does underline the importance of really good care and how that can help through the palliative nursing care process. Thank you for the very positive feedback.

My mum was in Moor Park House for a few months this year after a second stroke, she needed a nursing home, not a care home she had been in for several years. At first appearance, it looks very nice, but I quickly realised it wasn’t the right place for my mum. They deal with a lot of complex needs, my
mum although needed a lot of help it wasn’t complex. I didn’t like the fact mum had all meals in her room on her own, wasn’t what mum needed, no lounge with people to chat to. Just 2 empty lounges on the ground floor. When I rang it was usually agency staff who didn’t know my mum. One time I was told they had sent samples so were barrier nursing but a few days later no one knew anything about it. Moved my mum to another nursing home that met her needs, unfortunately, I lost my mum in August and I just wish I had moved mum there straight from the hospital.

Reply from Susan Coyne, Home Administrator at Moor Park House

Firstly we are very sorry to hear that you lost your mum in August. As regards to the review of the home we would like to add that at the time your mum came to us we were relatively full therefore the range of rooms we were able to offer was limited. Your mum was placed on a unit which at the time had a lot of residents who were very ill, therefore the lounge areas were understandably quiet during the months of her stay. The activities team did, however, do their best to offer trips out, art and craft days and pamper sessions, which on occasions the resident did not feel up to attending and as we are a person-centred care home we always respect their wishes. We have an excellent reputation for care with many positive comments and feedback cards as evidence of this, which are available to read at the home. We are sorry that on this occasion you were disappointed.

Sometimes the food is not satisfactory e.g. hot chicken with cold salad. Sometimes there are definitely not enough staff on duty and call buzzers can be left ringing for a long time unanswered. A lot of residents now have very complex needs and must have two carers. However, the staffing levels have
not increased since residents on this floor were mainly able to manage with only one carer. Also, staff are continuously being sent down to help out on the nursing floor when they are short-staffed.

I have found the home to be clean and comfortable. Staff are caring and compassionate and competent to provide my personal and emotional care and support. I cannot praise them enough. I feel safe and well cared for. The food is excellent and varied. I enjoy seeing my visitors at any time I wish. I also
enjoy the hydrotherapy pool and physiotherapy - lovely staff.

Current Review Score: 8.8 (8.840)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.8 (8.840) out of 10 for Moor Park House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.0 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.877 for Moor Park House is calculated as follows: ( (50 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 57 Ratings = 4.877

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.963 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Moor Park House is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 54 registered maximum number of service users is 10.8. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.8 = 0.463

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
