I was there in early 2023.
I found the place very welcoming and almost homely. The staff and nurses were very good and helpful. The carers could be a bit on the hit-and-miss side, waking you up at 7 am to check on your nappy/pad which you all had to wear in case of 'Accidents'!
Overall I found my
respite care stay to be very pleasant and will give the place 5 stars.

I simply can not speak highly enough of Oakfield.
It is clearly an extremely well-led establishment, and that is evident as soon as you walk through the door or telephone the office.
All the staff look and sound happy to be there, and that then rubs off on the residents, who all look happy and well
cared for. All the staff know their residents well and put simply, they care! The home is spotlessly clean and smells fresh, and not how you could envisage a care home to smell.
My mum has settled in tremendously well and is able to take part in a wide, varied range of activities. She is now able to enjoy her latter years again, and we are able to relax, knowing she is safe and happy. In short, Mum has her dignity back!
Communication with the family has been great, and we are kept up to date, particularly during Covid, all decisions taken regarding visiting and restrictions have been the correct ones. The safety of the residents is the number one priority.

Very disappointed with the policies and dealings with Covid. The management seems to only want to protect themselves from litigation or criticism of their policy and implementation of measurements during the outbreak.
The continued "lockdown" of patient, and, extremely draconian measurements are questionable
at best. The guidelines by the government seem to be left behind, and the management seems to have made up rules which are neither balanced or in the best interests of the residents. There has been no reasonable communication to the families about proportion or the effects of these extreme measures and the length of them. Communication and support are necessary if residents interests are to be secured and supported. The home has, in my opinion, been very authoritarian and has not liaised or taken the relatives concerns into consideration.

Reply from Laura Bibby, Manager at Oakfield Nursing Home

Oakfield has at all times followed government guidance and advice, while taking into account the particular circumstances within the home, to ensure the safety of all patients and staff.
The issue of patient visiting has been of concern to all care homes, and Oakfield is not in isolation. The problem remains the high risk of infection passing from a visitor to the patient, who then infects other patients and staff resulting in death from Covid. Covid is highly infectious and has not gone away.
We will continue to act within Government guidance, but also with due regard to our nursing experience and responsibilities, to safeguard all patients.
Regular updates have been sent to all next of kin with regards to visiting, and we are more than happy to discuss any concerns regarding these.

Current Review Score: 7.6 (7.633)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.6 (7.633) out of 10 for Oakfield Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.1 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.545 for Oakfield Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (8 Excellents x 5) + (1 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 11 Ratings = 4.545

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.088 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Oakfield Nursing Home is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 57 registered maximum number of service users is 11.4. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 11.4 = 0.088

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
