With a team devoted to enriching the lives of their residents, Peel Gardens is a thriving home. Several of the team have been there for over 10 years, giving it that warm, family feel.

The home has an excellent reputation locally for its dementia care, nursing and palliative care, with the team also offering respite care breaks, which can be booked in advance. These are ideal for family carers who need a short break themselves, with the peace of mind that their loved one is being well cared for.

The local community is embraced into life at the home, from musicians and singers who regularly perform, to local school children coming in to spend time with the residents. The local pastor regularly visits, with residents also invited to events at the church.

There is also a bowling club behind the home, where the residents can play a game of bowls or enjoy coffee and cake in the park.

With its own newly-refurbished hair and nail salon, residents can enjoy weekly appointments with the mobile hairdresser and a spot of pampering. And a chiropodist also visits regularly.

The enclosed, sensory gardens at the home are beautiful, having had a huge investment from not-for-profit provider Sanctuary Care to transform them into a wonderful space. And friends at the local Colne Horticultural Society have recently planted daffodil bulbs ready for the spring!

This summer the gardens have been a hub of activity, with the residents growing their own fruit and vegetables from onions and tomatoes to strawberries. These have then harvested their produce for the chef to use in the kitchen, giving them such a sense of achievement.

In the dining room the residents enjoy delicious home-cooked meals, from roast dinners with all the trimmings to fish and chip Fridays, home-made soups and lighter bites, with freshly baked cakes for afternoon tea.

My mother was admitted to Peel Gardens via the hospital. She was totally bedridden but with the excellent care and support from the staff, her rehabilitation has worked so well that she is now back home in the community. Certain members of staff went above and beyond their duty to make mum's stay excellent.

My mother was neglected and uncared for. She was too vulnerable to complain. My father was also in the home for a short period. We moved them both out within a few months of them moving. Even the manager quit because of the poor standards of the staff.

The carers at Peel Gardens have always had my mum’s very best interests as their focus, whether health or general happiness. They treat her with respect and her dignity is always at the forefront of their actions. My mum is treated as a unique individual and not as a “ service user.”

The care that my mother received in the 5 years she was there was fantastic. A care home is only as good as its staff and the staff at Peel Gardens Residential and Nursing Home are amazing. My mother's needs and dementia were complex but were dealt with brilliantly and with compassion and sometimes
even with laughter. Her end of life care was given by staff that knew her and had grown very fond of my mum. They wanted as I and my sister and niece wanted the best for her at the end of her life. I feel she would not have got anywhere that in hospital.

Having perused introspectively my findings regarding Peel Gardens, where my Dad is, unfortunately, spending his palliative time, I'm utterly convinced he's in the best place possible. The nursing care he receives around the clock is fantastic, throughout the entire home. There's professionalism in every
facet and departmental aspect, within this truly magnificent "home from home". I base my observations on a month's silent judgement and again, I must reiterate, I've found Peel Gardens flawless in all aspects regarding Dad's care. In my opinion, Dad is treated with the dignity and compassion any caring son could wish for. My absolute gratitude goes to every member of the brilliant team within .

The care given to my dad is very good overall. On his clear days he says you can get a kiss and a cuddle when you need one which means a lot when family aren't there. He'll never go hungry or thirsty.

My grandma moved to the home as she was assessed as needing 24-hr nursing care. The home manager was fantastic at facilitating the move, talking us through the processes and ensuring that my grandma settled as easily and quickly as possible. The standard of care she has received has been outstanding
and she is more settled than we have seen her for a long time. The staff are caring and interact with her, which is very reassuring for us as a family. They have done their utmost to help facilitate safe visits during the pandemic and have made sure we are always able to phone and make contact so we are up to date with how grandma is. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the home and we feel very comforted that grandma is being cared for so well there.

We were phoned by the night staff at 06.30 am on the 9th of April and told that my father in law had fallen whilst trying to get up. The paramedics had been contacted and that the paramedics would contact us once he had been assessed. The staff were aware that he is not for hospital admission. We were
phoned by the paramedics and reassured that he had cuts and bruises, but no other injuries. We had been made aware previously that it is the care home policy to contact paramedics if a client is taking anticoagulants. The paramedics informed us that the staff had monitored him before their arrival and they were also able to confirm that he was his usual self. The paramedic very kindly conducted a video call with us to reassure us and let us see him. We spoke to staff later in the day and were told that he had enjoyed both his meals. We can not praise both the night and day staff enough for their communication during this incident and their overall care, love and professionalism.

Dad went straight from the hospital to Peel Gardens. It took a couple of weeks for him to settle in, but during that time, the staff did everything they could to assist and wherever possible accommodated all his requests. Nothing was ever too much trouble. Sadly he passed away after only 6-weeks, but
I am comforted knowing he was well cared for and the staff took time to chat with him and were always on hand should he need anything. Thank you Peel Gardens.

Some staff are excellent, some are good, some are OK. Most are good. Grandma has been in 1 week and seems OK, if a little lost. It would be good to have more staff chat about her well being and establish her personality a bit more. That said, she is well looked after, clean and very safe, without being
restricted.

My wife has a pleasant, bright room with ensuite toilet. Staff are friendly, caring and respectful of her. The manager and assistant manager are approachable and readily available if there are any queries about my wife's care. The home is well-appointed with regard to lounges, dining rooms, bathrooms
etc. My knowledge of the food is very slight but it appears to be good and my wife is happy with it.
