I have placed 3 relatives in this care home over the last 8 years. All have been cared for well, the staff are very helpful and friendly and turnover is quite low which is a good thing. Lots of staff have been working the whole 7 years I have been visiting.
The recent redevelopment has only enhanced
things which now means a more up to date environment and furnishings.
I would recommend this home to anyone looking to place a relative.

Absolutely fantastic care home, the staff cannot be faulted. They do a fantastic job with no fuss, panic or anything. There is always someone you can talk to and they listen. If any action is needed it is done. The facilities are fantastic, as are the rooms, everything easily accessed.

We have been delighted with Queens Lodge Nursing Home since my mum arrived. A very welcoming home, the staff are so polite and respectful to the residents. My mum has settled in, which is totally down to the staff. The decor is tired, but is gradually being renovated without disturbing the residents.
The residents are free to roam around and sit wherever they want. I can visit whenever and if I have a question about my mum, the staff can always answer it as they know who she is. They always call her by her name.

They have managed after months of Mum being wheelchair-bound, with no confidence to attempt to stand, actually managed to give her the confidence to stand up, aided. You really don't know as a family, how much you have given back to our wonderful mum. Thank you so much, you really are the best. From

Mum has been in Queens Lodge since September 2020 and from the start was made to feel welcome. Her room overlooks the garden and she enjoys mixing with others and relaxing in her room when wanting to have some quiet time. She has just turned 100 and all the staff made a fuss of her and made it a special
time. It gives us peace of mind to know that she is well looked after.

My mum was a resident of Queens Lodge for the last 4 and 1/2 years. I cannot stress enough how happy I am to have chosen this home for my mum. She was cared for by angels and had everything she could ever need. She was an independent lady and was very happy there. The staff did everything they could
to help her stay independent and she really appreciated that, as did her family. The home is always clean and the nurses are so smart and professional. I always felt comfortable going to visit and was made to feel very welcome by everyone. My mum was always doing something or other when I visited, like flower arranging, dancing or playing bingo and that really reassured me that she was being kept stimulated. I can't recommend Queens Lodge highly enough! Thank you to all the staff for looking after mum so well.

A lovely, comfortable residential home. My mum was cared for with the utmost professionalism. The staff are caring and welcoming as are the owners. There was a variety of afternoon entertainment in a warm supportive environment. My mum was cared for in a compassionate manner right to the end of her
life. Many thanks from all the family.

Even from our first meeting and looking around your home I was instantly aware that Queens Lodge was right for dad and my gut feeling could not have been more right. You and your amazing staff went above and beyond our expectations. The care, the comfort, the professionalism, the surroundings, the communication,
the empathy, the attention to small detail, everything you all did was so comforting in our time of distress and dad's final weeks, days, hours and minutes were cared for in a way that soothed us. We can never find the words to express what you did for dad.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for giving him love, care and dignity right to the end.

My mother had a serious fall and was admitted to hospital. When they could no longer do anything for her they transferred her to Queens Lodge. Mum herself said, "I have gone from Hell into Heaven". Every single member of staff from top to bottom were absolutely lovely to her. She had a laugh and a joke
with lots of them despite being desperately ill. Everything in their power was done to make my mum happy, comfortable and pain-free, from dog therapy, Easter hats and plants growing on her window ledge to constant checks about her comfort. They never made you feel they hadn't time (and I'm sure they hadn't) to turn her, lift her or comfort her. Also, because I live away and could only get up spasmodically I phoned every day. I was always given a true update which was always caring and kind and I was never made to feel that I shouldn't be phoning. In this world full of tumult and strife what a blessing for my mum to have ended her days in such a lovely place looked after by lovely people.

Current Review Score: 8.6 (8.579)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.6 (8.579) out of 10 for Queens Lodge Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.9 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.633 for Queens Lodge Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (40 Excellents x 5) + (18 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 60 Ratings = 4.633

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.946 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Queens Lodge Nursing Home is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 56 registered maximum number of service users is 11.2. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 11.2 = 0.446

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Janine

Janine Davidson

Job Title: Manager

Janine Davidson got her first glimpse of care when she saw the support her mum gave to her grandmother when she was younger.

This inspired her and in 2004 she became a carer herself, working at a residential care home. Having enjoyed her role but wanting to do more, Janine decided to train as a nurse and in 2009 she became fully qualified.

Her next eight years were spent on the wards at the Royal Blackburn Hospital, but residential care had always remained in her thoughts and in 2016 she left the NHS and decided to use her skills in a new role.

After initially coming to Queen’s Lodge as ‘bank’ nurse, the role soon became permanent and she rose to become our ‘Nurse-in-Charge’, which means she had overall responsibility for all the nursing which is delivered in the home.

Then, in spring 2020, Janine accepted the role of Manager of Queen’s Lodge.

Despite taking a step back from nursing full-time, the requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), mean she still needs to accrue so many hours to retain her nursing status, so she still provides nursing care at Queens Lodge.

In her spare time, Janine, who is married with three children, enjoys spending time with her family and socialising with her friends.

Job Title: Deputy Manager

When Nikki Brunt was offered the Deputy Manager’s job at Queen’s Lodge, she had one stipulation and that was she wanted to continue providing care for our residents.

Having had Nikki with us for 20 years, that was music to our ears, so she is now combining both roles, providing care ‘on the floor’ and support to our Manager Janine in the office.

Nikki got the bug for care when she was a teenager, and her grandfather came to live with her parents following the death of his wife.

She said: “We were all around to help him as a family so that’s what got me thinking that a career in care was for me.”

Aged 19, Nikki joined us at Queen’s Lodge and was a Senior Carer for the last ten years. Now aged 39, she is thoroughly deserving of her promotion.

She says: “When I was offered the Deputy Manager’s role, I was very passionate in wanting to also be able to continue providing care, so now I have the best of both worlds and I couldn’t be happier.

“Queen’s Lodge is a lovely home with amazing residents and staff. Everyone is very friendly; we work as a team and it feels just like being part of a big family.”

Nikki admits the last 12 months have been difficult as everyone had to adjust due to Covid-19.

She adds: “It was hard work, but we all pulled together to ensure the residents were as safe as possible and, touch wood, we are now over the worst.”

When Nikki is not at work, she enjoys spending time with her partner and their two children and going to the gym. She is also an avid watched of Netflix and enjoys binge watching the latest shows.

She jokes: “I think I have watched 90% of everything that is on Netflix so I can always recommend a good show!”
