Night staff need to be reviewed. Not really caring enough for residents. My dad was in hospital for four days after falling out of bed. The floor mat is not in place! All my comments refer to day staff which are excellent. A change of menu would be good at lunchtime.

From the first day of being cared for Mum settled in very quickly which was such a huge relief for me. In addition, her cognitive awareness is healthier compared to when she was living with myself. My only slight concern is she's become a bit less talkative, however, she is talkative with the staff.
On the whole, Mum is at ease in her surroundings.

I grade you as an excellent nursing home. I could be wrong, but there does not seem to be a brochure/fact sheet specific to what Springfield has to offer in order to advertise your excellence. I believe this is a legally enforceable requirement according to the "accessible information standard" on 1st
August 2016. This fact sheet/brochure is a necessary requirement making a client/family to be able to make an informed decision. This information is a guide map to future care at the outset and should proceed with a "care needs assessment"!

Thank you, Mervyn, for your feedback and kind comments about our home. We would like to assure you that all of these materials are available to all enquirers and families. Our home leaflet is available to download on our website as well as FAQs that explain all of the little details you would want to know before you move in. Both of these materials are also available as printed versions at our home. A welcome brochure is given to all of our new residents and their families, which includes all essentials information. All of this along with the T&Cs are readily available to all families before and after move-in. The care needs assessment is also done prior to the individual moving in to ensure that our home is able to provide appropriate and safe care for each resident. This is reviewed regularly with each resident and when someone’s care needs change. I hope this has reassured you; should you need any of this information, please reach out to us at the home. Thanks again.

My mother has been a resident for over a year and has received excellent care. The staff are very kind and compassionate. My mother's health improved dramatically whilst in Springfield Care Home after leaving the hospital. Also, all the staff have made me and my family welcome during our visits.

Total chaos resulting in many serious issues. The resident was removed due to safety and care issues and is now safe and being looked after properly.
Belongings went missing and care was variable depending on the staff that were on duty.
The home has deteriorated over the year and is trying to save
money but this should not impact on residents. The definition of care and home are not being met.

I find the staff very friendly, and nothing seems to be any trouble to them. They always friend time to have a conversation with you and keep you informed on how the resident is doing.

Disgusting care home. Most carers seem to operate under the ‘minimum wage, minimum effort’.
I’ve heard staff shouting at the dementia residents before, belongings go missing. It stinks, cleanliness is definitely not a priority. Dirty dressings are not changed for over a week, causing infection. One
of the staff nurses shouts at relatives, other members of staff and residents because he’s a couple of years away from retirement and really couldn’t care less. Food is terrible, hardly any activities for the residents and to top it all off the heating has been broken for a few weeks now. Do not put your loved ones here!

The overall care from the home is first-class - the carers do a first-class job. The help and support from the medical staff have been brilliant and so much appreciated. The main areas that could be improved on are - general communication - often we don't know what is happening or changes going on.
A re=frsh of some of the facilities and room would be good.

My sister was admitted to Springfield for rehab to help get her walking again after a bad fall, but unfortunately, her mental health deteriorated while in hospital, and this was no fault of the home, it just happened to my sister due to anxiety and stress of being away from her home, in my opinion.
I find most staff helpful and pleasant to talk to, but feel very miss guided when asking for updates about my sister, which due to Covid rules and visits limited, is very important to me.
It appears to me that things are often very unorganised, such as visiting, you can be left waiting at the door for up to 15 minutes then when you get in you can be waiting to see your relative, so often half of your visit time is lost. I can’t comment for the rest of the home, but I find the unit my sister is on very dark, depressing and never smells clean. The room often looks untidy, cluttered and dirty with food left on the floor from meal time that I have cleaned up while visiting.

Thank you, Anita, for your comments about Springfield Care Home. We appreciate you taking the time to give feedback and letting us know how we are doing.
Communication is managed with each individual resident and their family, so we will look at ways to improve this. We recognise the importance of visiting, and we can only apologise that this has not always gone so smoothly. At times, there is a delay when entering the building due to other visitors having their Lateral Flow Tests. To accommodate any delays, we do aim to extend the visiting appointments so that no time is lost. At present, the home is undergoing a significant redecoration, but we have passed on all your comments to our team and will investigate any issues with your sister’s room. In the meantime, if you would like to discuss anything in more detail, please reach out to the Home Manager to arrange a meeting. Thank you again.

Just wanted to say thank you to the staff for helping my father settle so well over the last 6-months in a difficult time for everybody. We can tell he is settled, speaks well of the staff and says how good the food is. It reassures us that he is happy and secure and has everything he needs. Thanks
to the staff on floor two for answering our questions when asked.

Springfield Care Home is a lovely welcoming and caring environment. All the staff go above and beyond for their family (that's how the residents are thought of "family).
Extremely professional and always keep the families informed of their loved ones progress.

It's obvious to see all the residents

are happy in their home.
Lovely food and lots of activities to keep everyone entertained.

The professional and approachable management team is a credit to the home and cares greatly about her residents and staff.

I would like to commend all the staff on level 2, the dementia floor, for doing a sterling job looking after my husband, especially the male chap who goes above and beyond his call of duty. The staff's patience and caring nature are second to none through this very difficult time, as I haven't been
able to go into the care home properly since my husband moved in, in July 2020 due to Covid19 restrictions. The only critique I would like to make is that I would like the owners to act more swiftly in arranging suitable indoor access (adhering to cover restrictions) for seeing my husband.

Both my mum and dad transferred to Springfield from another care home in the area. My dad had lost the ability to walk and constantly displayed distressing behaviour. On arrival, both mum and dads need where assessed. This resulted in much improvement in mum and dads well-being. Within weeks, they began
to gain weight and Dad began to stand and transfer and walk aided. A great improvement could be seen in both their life's. I can't thank the staff on the dementia unit enough, for the support given. Firstly to my mum and dad, and also to myself and my family. This now is my mum and dad's home, and they are being given the care and support that they need and totally deserve to help with this dreadful disease. I would highly recommend Springfield to anyone seeking dementia care for a loved one.
Thank you to everyone.

On visiting my friend I found the staff to be very friendly and caring, the home was lovely and clean, as reception had just been cleaned it smelt lovely and fresh, as it was Christmas, the reception looked lovely with the lights and Christmas tree.
I would certainly recommend anyone to come here,
they are cared for very well.
I didn't meet the home manager on my visit so can't say how she is, but I was told by staff she is lovely.

I found the care home friendly welcoming, busy environment which my sister enjoys, but also a quiet area is available for visits in the reception area if preferred, the staff were inclusive of family in the activities in the home, my sister and I enjoyed the quiz, I thoroughly enjoy my visits with my
sister, I feel part of the home and the staff are wonderful.

Having used other care providers in the care sector (several for respite and three for permanent care) I feel qualified to comment on the quality of care at Springfield Care Home. Here there are no restraining comments such as "where are you going?" or "sit down there and stay there". My husband is
free to wander as and when he wishes exactly as he would do at home. Springfield Care Home is spacious but secure and residents can wander at will. All rooms - bed, bath, dining room and lounges are on one level enabling residents to learn where their bedroom is, giving them the choice of sitting in their own personal space or enjoying company in the communal areas, (some homes keypad these areas off and you are obliged to remain solely in the lounge). Springfield Care Home promotes independence where possible. Staff are pleasant and helpful - going the extra mile is the now. Can I just say 'thank you Springfield Care Home for your winning recipe'.

Springfield is one of the most caring homes I have had the good fortune to find. My husband has Alzheimers disease and has resided in Springfield over the past month. The staff and management have shown great kindness, a lot of patience both with my husband and myself, especially when asking questions
and making observations about his care. They have made every effort to alleviate any initial problems relating to my husband's settling in at the home.

Current Review Score: 8.2 (8.183)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.2 (8.183) out of 10 for New Springfield Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.7 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.500 for New Springfield Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (28 Excellents x 5) + (16 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 48 Ratings = 4.5

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.683 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for New Springfield Care Home is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 65 registered maximum number of service users is 13. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 13 = 0.308

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
