The staff at the New Victoria are dedicated, professional, responsive and compassionate. I am reassured that my mother is receiving the best care in a safe, clean and nurturing environment. Staff are highly responsive to concerns and communication is excellent. Grateful.

My mum has been a resident here since September 2020 and has always been cared for very well by the manager and her wonderful care team. My mum is very happy with how she is cared for here and she says herself the food too is always nice. The home is always clean and welcoming when we visit. My mum
doesn’t take part in activities due to her condition but these are always offered to her. If she did want to participate then staff would ensure that she was included hence why I am unable to comment personally on this.

Well run, someone is always there to assist even though understaffed, which is not their fault. Very clean and good food. The staff are very nice and friendly.

Mum has been in The New Victoria for just over three years now. She has always been well-fed (she loves the food). The staff are always cheerful and happy and mum loves this. Any issues she has had have been brought to the attention of the staff by myself and family members and acted upon to make the
situation better.
Mum has deteriorated over time now and we are still happy with the care she receives. All the staff work so hard even though they are short-staffed. Sadly mums appetite has reduced now and she can't communicate well anymore but we know she's still happy there and that's what matters.
A suggestion for improvement is for all staff to wear name badges.

Avoid this place at all costs. My mum has been here just over a year. It's the most petty, pathetic place I have ever known from the bottom two to the very top!
The food is a disgrace most days, soup sandwiches or chips. My mum lost that much weight it's disgusting. I take food in for her but now they
have started to throw it away (Indian takeaway) taken the night before for Mother's Day, in a sealed container with her name, room number on for her tea. Day after, thrown away. When questioned, the manager said no date on it, in the bin! The night staff knew, my mum knew, she doesn't have Dementia. They only had to ask her but no, thrown away and brand new unopened ice cream dessert thrown away. Why, why would anyone do something so nasty? disgusting!
The Management especially the manager complete waste of time.
Thinking of moving mum after this, it's just so nasty. Horrible people but she is now 91 sound of mind but frail body, not strong enough. Shame on them.

As we have previously stated we have to abide by food hygiene regulations. We were informed that the food had already been reheated through in our microwave the night before. Therefore it could not be reheated again for consumption by one of our residents. We appreciate that everyone has their likes and dislikes when it comes to food. Which is why all of our residents are offered alternatives to the main menu, each day. When we are informed of any meal requests we do our best to ensure it is provided through our service providers.

Most of staff are happy and cheerful and passionate. They are short-staffed but try as hard as they can.

It gives me great pleasure to highly recommend the New Victoria N/H in Blackpool where my dear Mum was a resident for years till she sadly passed away on 18th March but everyone was so kind and caring from the cleaners up to the managers. Just the home for an elderly person if they needed care in their
later years of life. I will always be in their debt for what they did for Mum I thank you once again from the bottom of my Heart. Thank you to all of the staff and god bless you.

My mum is settled here and has no problems. My only issue was they don't check her nails, I didn't know they were not allowed to cut her toe tails so they were left to grow over the top of her toe. Would be better if we were told about this and any other things we need to cover.

Reply from Janet Moutrey, Manager at New Victoria Nursing & Residential Care Home

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. With your Mum being independent we did expect her to advise us of any issues.
In future, we will ensure all residents are asked if a chiropodist is required once a month, at least.
Kind Regards
Jan Moutrey

Mum is not a person who likes to join in activities, though the invite is always there. During her two years (so far) residence at the home, she has loved being there. She has everything she needs. From my point of view, the home has some wonderful staff and management. Any concerns as a family are
dealt with swiftly. Mum's health is sadly deteriorating but the care she receives has escalated in line with that. Mum's happy, I'm happy. She loves the food.

My mum has been in New Victoria Nursing & Residential Care Home for over 2 years now and she has been well cared for, kept clean and well fed. Staff have all been absolutely great with her. She has been treated with the utmost respect. I was a bit wary as are a lot of people, but I shouldn't have worried.
She has settled really well and that is because of how she is treated. I also get on really well with all the staff. I would highly recommend the home to anyone who wanted to place their family there.

My grandmother came to the New Victoria July 2016. All the staff are very welcoming and spend time with the residents chatting to them. The residents are highly cared for with plenty of staff on hand at all times. The room my grandma had was very spacious clean and tidy at all times, as were all of
the areas including the sitting lounge, reception, grandmas every needs were taken care of. Residents had entertainment and also music and bingo to keep them occupied. I can honestly say on behalf of my family, we now wish grandma had come to the New Victoria earlier. I can 100% say we were more than satisfied with her and that of the other residents care which we had seen whilst visiting. We could visit at any time. May I congratulate The New Victoria Residential Home on their outstanding care and management, thank you, everyone.

Current Review Score: 8.2 (8.235)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.2 (8.235) out of 10 for New Victoria Nursing & Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.0 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.193 for New Victoria Nursing & Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (35 Excellents x 5) + (11 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) + (7 Poors x 2) + (3 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 57 Ratings = 4.193

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.042 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for New Victoria Nursing & Residential Care Home is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 6 = 0.667

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
