Nightingales has and continues to support my Dad who one year ago I did not think would last more than a few months. He is calm and hopefully what time he has left is dignified. From our first interaction with the management team their professionalism shone through. The staff, too many to mention really,
immediately took us under their wing and guided me through the paperwork and getting Dad settled so efficiently it was just such a relief. The communication is excellent. Clear and concise. If they need you to do something non-urgent such as clothes needed or toiletries then an email. Urgent such as hospital admission a well-worded phone call. Nightingales might not have the boutique hotel vibe popular in some homes but it more than steps up in terms of offering good care for the elderly who cannot remain in hospital or at home. Dignity is clearly paramount. They really know the residents which is lovely.

This is my first experience with a care home, so I don't have anything to compare. It was the manager's empathy, honesty and efficiency that swayed me into choosing Nightingales Nursing Home. All of the staff are friendly and appear to genuinely care. A suggestion would be to have names on the staff
clothing/uniforms- whether velcro or stickers so that I don't feel rude if I can't recall someone's name.

Reply from Jo-Anne Porter, Home Manager at Nightingales Nursing Home

Thank you for such a lovely review. We aim to provide dignity in everything we do at Nightingales. We will certainly look into dementia-safe name badges moving forward as this is a very good idea. Thank you.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.6 (7.636) out of 10 for Nightingales Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.1 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.545 for Nightingales Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (7 Excellents x 5) + (3 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 11 Ratings = 4.545

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.091 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Nightingales Nursing Home is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 55 registered maximum number of service users is 11. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 11 = 0.091

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Activity Co-ordinator

My name is Amanda Simpson and I am the activity coordinator at Nightingales Nursing Home. I worked in a children’s nursery for nearly 25 years which I thoroughly enjoyed but I got made redundant and fancied a career change as I have a love for the elderly and had nearly 25 years of experience of activities I thought this was the job for me.

I enjoy my job so much we play games and create crafts to decorate our home I’m always thinking of new ideas for us to do. I plan parties, entertainment and trips out. I feel I get something out of it as much as the residents do, I find it so rewarding if I can make a resident smile I know I’ve made their day.

I welcome any suggestions and am always looking for new ideas.
