The staff at the home are extremely friendly and caring.
I am always comforted by the staff's passion to care for my mum.
The home is always clean and tidy.
I always leave knowing that the staff have my mum's best interest, comfort and care needs, and this is of most importance to them.
This
really does mean a lot, thank you.

I cannot speak too highly of the staff, they do an excellent job in a difficult type of work. While understanding the companies situation, I see overworked ladies meeting the statutory requirements, including completing records, not well paid and working continual shifts. They are all nearly running
around.
Activities are almost impossible to provide with the wide range of residents problems. My background enables me to make valued judgement.

My father went into the care of the team at Deangate in July 2019 and from that moment on he was looked after as if he was family. My Mum was also welcomed and made to feel part of it which was very important as it was a difficult decision for her to have to place Dad in someone else's care.
Sadly,
Dad passed away recently but I can honestly say that every single one of the team could not have done more to look after and care for him. One member of staff particularly went above and beyond to ensure he had the best care from all the external providers (local GP etc). The manager and the whole team are true professionals who have the dignity and well being of the residents and their family at the forefront of what they do.
I cannot recommend Deangate highly enough and want to thank the whole team for their love and support during this difficult time.

My wife has only been in for a short time but, up to now, I am pleased with the service of care. The carers are good and the meals are good. Pleased with it all.

My mother has been a resident since January 2017. I feel happy knowing that she is settled, comfortable and very well cared for. It is a pleasure to visit her. All the staff are very pleasant and approachable. They always keep me well informed on all aspects of Mother's care. The care home is always
clean and well run. It is a pleasure to visit.

My dad initially went into Deangate for a week's respite, he felt at home there with the friendly staff, they made my dad feel very welcome. My mum got to the point where she could no longer look after my dad at home, so we made the decision to put Dad into full-time care, because we had had such a
good experience at Deangate before we chose it to be his permanent home. I never worry about Dad's safety, I know he is well taken care of. The staff always tell us of any issues we need to know about promptly. I feel the staff at Deangate know my dad as an individual because they take time to talk with him and get to know him. I would recommend Deangate to anyone wanting a home that cares for their relatives. The staff are always friendly to my mum and me too, which certainly helps when you are going through the hard decision of placing a loved one in to care.

My mum was a total nervous wreck when I removed her from this place. Jewellery had gone missing. She was afraid of being locked in her bedroom. A comment from a staff member when the jewellery went missing was well it's just one of those things. That comment was made in front of a social worker. The
way my mum was handled was totally disgusting. She wasn't clean and lost weight, crying all the time.
I just hope that the people who rate this home as good, get the chance to see another home like the one my mum is in now. They would then realise how bad Deangate is.

Reply from Jonathan Edwards, Home Manager at Deangate Care Home

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback following your experience of Deangate Care Home which took place in May 2016. As a Home, we endorse a culture of welcoming all feedback in order to use as a reward for hard work when these comments are positive and a measure of areas of improvement that need to be made when the feedback is not positive. In the Nine months since this experience, the home has undergone extensive staffing, training and cultural changes which are reflected in the recent CQC inspection rating of GOOD. In respect of the missing jewellery, we were alarmed to see that issue raised here as briefly as it was. It was felt the subsequent Police involvement instigated by Deangate Care Home once this had been raised with the Home Manager, unfortunately, this resulted in the Police being unable to deal with this as a criminal matter. Therefore a financial recompense was issued by Hillcare Ltd. We are delighted to hear that your relative has found a home where she feels settled and happy. We operate an open door policy at Deangate Care Home so would welcome people to call in anytime to discuss any concerns they have or have had or to see the positive changes that the home are very proud of.

My dad has been a resident at Deangate for 3 years. In my opinion, this care home has had a lot of bad publicity. Yes, it's had a lot of work and the staff here have been and always are, very good. Also very good at all the aspects of their communication with residents and visitors.

The care home is where my mum has been a resident for over the past 2 years. The care home has improved in that time, the staff from the manager down are all hard working, friendly and will do all they can to help. The care home has residents with various care needs from very little to very complex
and difficult. The only concern I would have is at times the carers are over-stretched with regards to the resident to carer ratio.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.267)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.267) out of 10 for Deangate Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.867 for Deangate Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (73 Excellents x 5) + (9 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 83 Ratings = 4.867

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.4 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Deangate Care Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 50 registered maximum number of service users is 10. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 10 = 0.7

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
