The home provides great care for my elderly mother. The only small negatives are clothes are being misplaced/lost even though name and room number are wrote on them. The warm food supplied upstairs could do with being hotter as this is cold after mum gets halfway through the meal. It would definitely
be 5 stars if this was addressed.

Reply from Ken Henderson, Home Manager at Parkside Care Home

Thank you for your kind review of our home, I am unsure why your mum's food is getting cold but I will look to resolve this.

We find the carers attentive and caring.
The food has been very good and the room very clean.
One problem is other residents going into my mother's room which disturbs her, on one occasion she was sat on her toilet.
We do understand that it is a care home with patients with dementia.
When we take
our mother out the carers know to lock the door which does help.

Reply from Ken Henderson, Home Manager at Parkside Care Home

Thank you for your review, we were made aware of this and it was a new resident who had got disorientated and hopefully, this has been resolved.

Besides the quality of care my mother gets, all the staff are wonderful. I have also got peace of mind, not having to think about Mam all the time. She's getting excellent care!

My mother has been in the care home for about three years. I visit on a regular basis. I have visited other care homes from time to time, and this is the best I have seen. It is clean and comfortable, and the staff are very sociable. It is efficiently run and very secure. I am very pleased with the
care that my mother is receiving.

Reply from Ken Henderson, Home Manager at Parkside Care Home

The staff at Parkside were very approachable, caring and attentive to my mother's needs. They were supportive and sensitive when she needed it most and mum fully retained her dignity.
The home is clean and very well run by the manager and the leads.
The staff supported us well as a family and I
can’t thank them enough for their kindness.

Absolutely can not rate this care home highly enough. All the staff treated my nan with such care and dignity. In fact, they all actually felt like family to my family (nanan).
Very very clean in all areas of this home. My nan was mainly confined to her room as she had a terminal illness and struggled
to get out of bed. On the occasions, she did it wasn't a problem for the staff to try and assist her to the chair which was at the side of her bed. When the time came when she could not get out of her bed mainly towards the end the staff would always come in to see how she was. If she needed any water, food or if she was in any pain. They all cared about my nan's needs and washed her daily and always kept her comfortable. I also was told at any time of the day whether it was day or night I could ring up to see how she was. I was also given the reassurance that when she deteriorated I would immediately be called. I was also kept well informed of any new changes. Overall immaculate care home.

Our mum has been a resident at Parkside for nearly four years and she has always been treated with love and respect. On occasions when she has had a fall, we have been immediately informed. As a family, we have always been made welcome. In our opinion, our mum could not be in a better home. She is loved,
fed, kept, clean and tidy and looked after extremely well.

My mum who has dementia has been a resident in Parkside for exactly a year now. The staff there are great and since the new manager has taken over in July this year, I've seen a massive improvement in how mum is. She's much more calm and relaxed. Things have gone from good to great and I can't speak
highly enough of the support from the manager and the deputy manager. I would recommend Parkside to anyone looking for a care home for their elderly relatives. Since we moved our mum to Parkside we have been so much happier and no longer worry. There are some terrible care homes out there. The staff here have made a huge difference to the health, wellbeing and happiness of our mum as well as our own.

Parkside Care Home is a very caring, friendly and welcoming home. My mum has really settled well at Parkside after a bad experience elsewhere. The staff are all very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The new manager is very helpful and efficient and will get on with any queries you have straight
away and keep you up to date with what's happening and any changes that are being made. I would highly recommend this care home to anyone, it's somewhere you know your relative will be cared for.

Since the new manager arrived things have changed I'm happy to have my wife in this care home also the family. I would like to see my wife enjoy every day so would other families but they do their best if possible to fit you in. I like all the things they arrange for them, my family and I cleaned up
the patio with flowers and brought them a bench and table. The spare garden needs a complete makeover.

Reply from Lynsey Walker, Home Manager at Parkside Care Home

My father became a resident here during lockdown so we were unable to have a look around the home and facilities. In the short time he’s been there, there have been issues with basic care needs (lack of). Accident within the home resulting in spending all night in A&E unescorted and with dementia. He
was totally bewildered by it all by the time I arrived there, after finding out at 7 am the next morning. You would think for £600+ a week in fees the proprietors would be able to pay one extra junior carer for night duty for such occurrences. They have a duty of care to residents, how can a patient with dementia answer questions in A&E alone? He’s diabetic and the home didn’t send any medication with him either. We sent plenty of (decent) clothes in with him which they didn’t mark name with any permanent marker (just a biro) which will of course wash out. We have yet to see him in a pair of his trouser, they checked the laundry room (not there apparently). More interested in singalongs than care.

Placed my dad in this home which was recommended by a social worker, plus there was no other because of Covid.
Things started off great, looking well-kept, Dad seemed to be happy then due to lockdown in December I wasn’t allowed to see him through the window so I spoke to Dad over the phone and asked
staff how he was, which they said he was fine. Then a few things started to change when the restrictions started to lift. Dad's behaviour was changing, had a few issues with one or two residents which they did inform us. Then as I was starting to visit Dad more, noticed Dad was very unkempt and in the same clothes for weeks. Asked why and they said he was refusing personal care. I thought it was a bit strange as at first, they had no problems with dad. It went on for a while, so I asked if I could be his honorary carer where I was going in twice a week to do personal care, in the meantime, they would try to get him showered and changed but never happened. All his clothes went missing. So upsetting to leave him there.

My husband spent six months at Parkside, he had dementia. He was okay for the first couple of weeks but then we noticed he was unshaven and had the same clothes on all the time sometimes no underwear on. The staff kept saying he was refusing to get changed or washed so we suggested my daughter went
in to do personal care. The manager was against this but agreed. We had no problem getting him to have showers at all but the staff were just leaving it then for us. He did not seem happy at all there so we moved him and the new place has had no problem with him getting ready for bed, getting washed and is happy now. Some of the staff there could do with more training. I would not recommend this place as I feel my husband was neglected. There is a lot more I could but would need to write a book.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.351)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.351) out of 10 for Parkside Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.679 for Parkside Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (61 Excellents x 5) + (20 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 84 Ratings = 4.679

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.672 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Parkside Care Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 36 registered maximum number of service users is 7.2. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 7.2 = 0.972

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
