Home is good, but mother is just left in her bed. She is profoundly deaf, and registered blind, and due to being immobile cannot stand or sit up on her own. But could do with occasional change of scenery.

On the whole were very pleased with mums care, but think her hands should be washed/soaked in water as her nails are filthy. Also feel the room needs painting. The staff are always friendly and answer any questions we ask. Mum seems happy most of the time which puts us at ease.

My mother was a resident here for seven months before her death. At all times, she was treated with patience and dignity. She was very happy here and the staff were always respectful and aware of her needs. They were also polite and friendly at all times to all members of all the family.

The staff have been so caring and considerate towards my mum even tough she is suffering from dementia and has had quite a few challenging episodes. They have taken into consideration both her needs and her relatives.
She is now in the latter stages of her life and I could not wish for better care
from both the nursing and care staff.

My husband has been in three care homes recently and this one has proved to be the better. First and foremost are the staff, cannot fault them at all, they are a credit to your company. I cannot praise them enough. If my husband has to permanently reside in a care home I wouldn't hesitate to use Balmoral
Care Home. Just two things that could be improved on;
1. The size of the rooms for someone with reduced mobility, it is very difficult for them to manoeuvre.
2. The food. I stayed with my husband for Xmas lunch. It was dreadful, some is Ok but could be improved on.

Mum has been in Balmoral just over a year. I visit regularly and have been made to feel very welcome by all the staff that I come into contact with on Windsor. They do an amazing job, sometimes under great pressure due to not enough staff. My mum has dementia and after no longer being able to care for
her at home she went to live at Balmoral. The staff keep me up to date on how mum is and will contact me directly to update me on anything that is urgent. I class the staff on Windsor as heroes, as without their help, I dread to think where we would be.

I visit frequently on Wednesdays to take part in the activities day. Overall, view of the Balmoral Home is that of a well run, clean and friendly establishment. The key to a good home is the staff who are friendly and committed to their charges.

Very caring helpful staff. My mum has been in the home since February 2016 and has settled in well. In March my mum was unwell and had to visit hospital. Staff organised an ambulance to transport my mum and I to the appointment. Recently, my mum's clothes have not been washed according to care labels
and some have shrunk. Mum is always dressed and clean when we visit. Overall very pleased with the care mum is receiving.

The care home could be improved by having more staff. Sometimes the present staff have problems coping with the number of residents.

I would highly recommend Balmoral Care Home, the management and staff, caring and understanding to residents and there family.
My mum had a fall in her room in January the staff responded quickly and family in formed.
A member of the staff accompanied mum in the ambulance to reasure her and give the
doctors information they needed.
Mum suffers from dementia so the well being of mum is of up most importance and Balmoral did just that.
Thank you

In our experience the staff always seem to try their best in sometimes testing circumstances. The staff have changed a lot over last few months so seems to have lost some of its continuity. Questions are usually answered and overall residents seem well cared for.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.869)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.869) out of 10 for Balmoral Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.598 for Balmoral Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (62 Excellents x 5) + (24 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 92 Ratings = 4.598

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.271 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Balmoral Care Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 85 registered maximum number of service users is 17. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 17 = 0.471

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Lesley Christian

Job Title: Home Manager at Balmoral Care Home, Sheffield

Since a young age Lesley has been passionate about helping others. With her kind and helpful nature, it was evident a career in care was perfect for her. At the age of 16, she became a care assistant and went on to gain her NVQ Level 2 and 3. Before becoming a home manager she gained experience through roles such as a senior care assistant and a team leader. She is very proud that she has been able to help her team deliver the best care possible. A family-minded individual, Lesley spends her spare time swimming, going to family events and getting lost in a good book. Words of encouragement from Lesley for someone looking for the right home would be: “Ask yourself, is there a friendly atmosphere? Is it nice and bright? Are there lots of activities? If yes, this is good.”

“I love being able to help our residents live a fulfilled life with lots of laughter and joy.”
