  • Broomgrove Trust Nursing Home, Sheffield
As of 2023, Broomgrove has been established for 60 years. The home provides exceptionally high quality long and short-term nursing, respite and convalescent care for people of all ages who have physical disabilities or illnesses, with a specialism in palliative care.

All services are designed to meet each resident’s needs and preferences and the team believe in helping each resident to live life to the full.

Broomgrove is the only charity within Sheffield’s nursing home sector. They invest any surplus they make into further improving their buildings, facilities and services. There are no directors or shareholders and the home is managed by a board of trustees, made up of volunteers largely from the health and social care sector.

As a charity, Broomgrove subsidises the cost of routine weekly GP visits by the fantastic team from the Hollies Medical Centre. They also provide access to a physiotherapist twice weekly at no extra cost.

My husband has been looked after extremely well since arriving in this care home in January 2024, where he remains until the present time. The home is clean, fresh and the beds, although narrow, are comfortable. The main strengths however lie in the staff and their attitudes to both residents and visitors.
All staff take the trouble to get to know residents and their relatives well, for example doctors know their patients’ histories and catering staff welcome visitors with tea when they visit. Residents are treated with dignity, respect and patience and relatives are kept well informed about residents’ activities and progress. All staff are aware of residents’ likes and dislikes. They are happy to tell you formally and informally how well residents are doing and how they have been occupying their time. The rooms, although small, are well-arranged and pleasant and the bathrooms are kept clean and fresh. Carers are patient when residents are difficult and show kindness and concern.

My mother, who died recently, lived at Broomgrove for the final three and a half years of her life. She had moved house only once before, over 90 years previously, but she quickly felt at home in Broomgrove. Because Broomgrove offers nursing care, my mother was glad to know that she would be unlikely
to need a further move. It was also reassuring to know that Broomgrove is an independent, well established, local charitable Trust.
Broomgrove provides exceptionally good care and an amazing programme of activities and social events. My mother especially enjoyed Broomgrove’s lovely sheltered garden – one of the many features of Broomgrove that make it ‘home’ rather than ‘A Home’. For residents and their family and friends, Broomgrove removes the worry of day to day care and makes spending time with loved ones a real pleasure. We all felt – and will always feel - part of Broomgrove’s extended ‘family’ and we are so grateful to all the staff, management and trustees.

My aunt has been a resident at Broomgrove for nearly ten years and whilst she has many challenges physically, her intellect is as sharp as ever. She's always felt totally at home at Broomgrove. I visit her regularly and she's always full of praise for the care and professionalism of the staff. The
home always has a relaxed and happy vibe and the staff always go the extra mile to ensure she's as comfortable as possible.

The care Mum is receiving is very good and we have NO qualms about the standard of care she is offered and we understand how difficult it can be dealing with the elderly who have memory change!

The care that my mum has received and continues to receive is second-to-none. The home is light, airy, beautifully maintained and very welcoming. The staff who know every resident and their individual needs are thoroughly professional and friendly and very kind. They ensure Mum is beautifully dressed
and take time to apply perfume and hand cream which she loves. The food is excellent and varied. There is a team of staff who organise regular social activities as well as special events such as themed garden parties or musical/drama performances to which relatives are invited and made very welcome. It is made very clear that the care and support offered by the staff extends to the family and friends of the residents and never was this more apparent when Mum was discharged from hospital just before I was out of the country for a month. Whilst away I received photos of mum and regular updates which were very reassuring and much appreciated. I cannot recommend Broomgrove highly enough.

My Father has been with Broomgrove for the last two years and he has received excellent care and attention from the staff who are always friendly, attentive and kind. I am more than happy to recommend the home and the excellent work of all the staff at Broomgrove to anyone considering the option of

Mum has lived here for several years now, it is not her choice to live here, she would much rather be at home but a stroke means she needs 24 hour care; we all agree given the circumstances she couldn't be happier anywhere else. The manager takes care to employ staff who are both kind and patient as
well as being efficient in their roles; staff turnover seems to be low and many of the staff have been there much, much longer than my mum which shows, hopefully, that they are happy in their work. The food is fabulous, we have joined my mum for meals sometimes, as have my cousins; the food and service is as good as many restaurants. Entertainment/ activities are arranged most days and regular special events are arranged for residents and families to enjoy together. Nowhere is perfect but when we do raise very occasional concerns these are always dealt with quickly and professionally by the manager and/or the staff. We can't think of anywhere where mum would be better looked after.

My partner has been cared for in Broomgrove for the past three and a half years and he and all his family are delighted with the consistently high standard of care he has received. Despite his high level of complex needs, all the staff have ensured that he has had everything he could possibly need.
They have always been totally dedicated to making him as comfortable and fulfilled as possible and are always friendly and anxious to make him happy. Whenever there have been any health issues, the staff respond speedily and efficiently.

The home has a very high standard of cleanliness and the decor is up to date and attractive. The outdoor sitting area is lovely. There’s always something going on with interesting activities and regular celebrations and parties. The food is always fantastic too.

Broomgrove is a very well run home with excellent facilities and many activities for the residents, but above all it is a warm and welcoming place that feels like somewhere that is pleasant to live.
The staff are friendly and helpful and there is a real bond between them and the residents.
My mother
has been there for the best part of a year now and it was with some trepidation that we asked her to try it, initially on a temporary basis, to see if it would suit her when living at home had become increasingly difficult. She has settled in well and enjoys the many activities on offer and the sociable atmosphere in the home. In addition, the on-site nursing care means that I feel that mum is in safe hands. In fact, it is easy to praise Broomgrove as it sets a standard that you wish all homes could offer (but unfortunately don't).

My 89-year-old mother recently fell and broke her hip. We needed some convalescence care after hospital care but before coming home.
Broomgrove is close to home. In a nice part of town. Our very first contact was met with very helpful and prompt responses. We were invited to look around. Mum had
a cosy private room with lovely views into the garden. A spacious very nicely appointed bathroom. It feels very secure. And the common spaces are attractive, offering plenty of opportunities to eat with other residents or enjoy the lounge areas.
Food was very good, home cooked and generous. Lots of choices. The staff without exception were friendly, professional and respectful. My mum was quite confused. Everyone was very kind. She was very well cared for for 3 weeks. Helped to rehabilitate and recover enough to return home. We were welcomed as visitors at any time, to be with mum, relax, have a meal. There’s a family feel. We would definitely use Broomgrove again.

Mum has been staying at Broomgrove for the last 3 months following a hospital admission. We were so lucky to find such a welcoming and well-run nursing home at such short notice. It has worked out so well for Mum who has settled in really well. Every member of staff we have met is friendly and caring.
Like all families we had some concerns about Mum going into a home, I would reassure anyone thinking of using Broomgrove, I don’t think you could a better home from home anywhere else.

There is a calm atmosphere at Broomgrove where residents, staff and visitors mix happily and respectfully. The carers are personable, hardworking and very professional. The support staff make everything run smoothly. The nurses are knowledgeable and approachable. Management is always trying to make
life more comfortable and enjoyable.

The rooms and shared areas are light and airy. The dining room and food get a lot of attention. The menu is healthy, flavoursome and chef is imaginative. Something or someone is always being celebrated. The garden is lovely weather permitting.

There are individual and group activities with dedicated organisers, who provide for a range of interests and bring in outside performers and speakers.
As a charitable trust, the home gives confidence in its care. There’s always a monthly residents’ meeting with a trustee. We are consulted and kept informed about personal care and the home more generally.

Our dad is safe, cared for, relaxed and “at home”.

My Dad moved to Broomgrove in December 2018, after a really difficult three months in hospital. He could not be in a better place. Despite the changes that the medical issues brought to his life, thanks to the quality of the care and the attention to detail showed by the manager and her staff. He quickly
settled into his "new life" and he really is appreciative of the care, consideration and respect he receives. The home has a lovely atmosphere and an ethos that makes it very special. Everything is well organised, the accommodation is spotless and the staff are so kind and clearly committed and experienced.
It's a real pleasure to visit Dad at Broomgrove and to see him relaxed and smiling. Every day I feel thankful for the care and attention shown to him by the manager and her staff. Wonderful.

As the local Vicar, I visit Broomgrove regularly, but now I also have a close friend who is a resident there. As a professional, I have always been impressed by the atmosphere at Broomgrove and the care and attention paid by members of staff, whatever their role. Now that I have a more personal connection
I see how happy my friend is and that is a great joy. Thank you to all concerned.

My parents moved to Broomgrove ten months ago. The service and physical environment are excellent. The home is led by an exceptional manager, who, like her colleagues, never seems too busy to give her time. Staff go about their work with a light touch and good humour. They are approachable, receptive
and empathic, and listen to residents and visitors with respect. One example: while having lunch with my parents, a carer asked if a resident would like some sauce. When he didn't reply, she took the time to tell him the options and he chose one. Another example: at the end of a meal, my mother was talking to a resident at another table. A carer asked if they wanted to continue chatting. When they said yes, she offered to bring the other resident over. We are always struck by the calm, pleasant and welcoming atmosphere. The building is clean and well-maintained. We have experience of other care/nursing homes, and Broomgrove is the nicest one we have seen.

I am confident that my Husband is being well cared for and his needs are being met. I am also confident that the staff communicate well with me and keep me informed about his condition. I find Broomgrove a happy place to visit and all the staff are very kind to me. The staff at Broomgrove do their best
to meet the varied needs of their residents and their relatives.
If I needed to go into care myself, I would choose Broomgrove. Throughout my husband’s illness and having had my husband’s mother, my father and my aunt in different care homes, I believe Broomgrove to be the best.

My 94-year-old father receives care and attention that is absolutely brilliant. The staff cannot do enough for the residents and they are all cheerful and very friendly.
It is such a relief for our family to know that he is safe, well and also entertained as we experienced another care home where
this was not the case. He has actually improved in several areas since moving here (eg ability to feed himself). I would definitely recommend Broomgrove- it is at the higher end in terms of cost but if you/your relative can afford it, in my opinion, it’s one of the best.

My dad has been a resident at Broomgrove care home since March last year. Before that, he visited regularly for respite care. Since living full time at Broomgrove my dad has transformed from a frail, vulnerable, anxious gentleman to a happy, smiley, healthy individual with a renewed lust for life. We’ve
got our dad back with his cheeky sense of humour. In his own words “there’s nothing I need” because everything he needs or wants is provided for him. Every member of staff knows him and every member of staff shows the same caring, warm, friendly and professional manner. He has access to nursing care should he need it, GP visits each week, even a dentist and optician visit the home. The enrichment activities timetable is full, varied and always with something for him to do, he even goes out on visits to local museums and concerts. The quality of the food is outstanding and is always a talking point when we see him. I would highly recommend this care home.

Current Review Score: 7.9 (7.875)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.9 (7.875) out of 10 for Broomgrove Trust Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.1 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.750 for Broomgrove Trust Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (9 Excellents x 5) + (3 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 12 Ratings = 4.75

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.125 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Broomgrove Trust Nursing Home is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 8 = 0.125

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
