  • Broomgrove Trust Nursing Home, Sheffield
As of 2023, Broomgrove has been established for 60 years. The home provides exceptionally high quality long and short-term nursing, respite and convalescent care for people of all ages who have physical disabilities or illnesses, with a specialism in palliative care.

All services are designed to meet each resident’s needs and preferences and the team believe in helping each resident to live life to the full.

Broomgrove is the only charity within Sheffield’s nursing home sector. They invest any surplus they make into further improving their buildings, facilities and services. There are no directors or shareholders and the home is managed by a board of trustees, made up of volunteers largely from the health and social care sector.

As a charity, Broomgrove subsidises the cost of routine weekly GP visits by the fantastic team from the Hollies Medical Centre. They also provide access to a physiotherapist twice weekly at no extra cost.

My father has been in Broomgrove since November 2014. We had checked it out together a while before he needed to go in and he was happy it was where he wanted to be when the time came. We were very lucky that when he suddenly needed a space they had a respite slot and my father decided to go in to see
how it went. And he's been there ever since. Whilst the facilities, room, etc are all we could want for, what makes this place is the staff. I really couldn't fault the staff - their love and affection for the residents is so evident in everything the staff do. For the first time in a long time I feel I can relax knowing if a crisis arises he'll be well cared for but also on a day to day basis he will get everything he needs. I simply don't think we could have done better and I the more I talk to friends with parents in other homes the more I realise how lucky we are.

I have found this home to be most competent and caring for my aunt during this last ten years.
They always respond promptly to my questions and queries.
Both my Aunt and I are very satisfied.
My Aunt sometimes expresses frustration at the lack of stimulating activities but has been known to refuse
those offered.

We are really pleased with the level of care provided at Broomgrove. It is very well staffed, there's always someone that you can ask if you have a query or need anything. We would recommend Broomgrove, the cost for the level of care represents very good value.

Our Uncle has been a resident at Broomgrove for the past 3 years and we cannot recommend Broomgrove highly enough. We looked around several Nursing homes prior to deciding on this care home and have had experience of other homes in Sheffield with other family members. None have been as good as Broomgrove.
Our Uncle was in really poor health when he was originally admitted but due to the Outstanding care and attention he has received, has far outlived his expectations. They have cared so well for him, but allowed him to maintain his independence and dignity in a safe and monitored environment. He is most importantly really settled and feels happy to call Broomgrove his home. We visit weekly and have never had any cause to worry and are more than pleased with the care he receives.

I came here one afternoon in late November on discharge from hospital and was welcomed with a smile and a cup of tea. A reassuring start which helped me settle in quickly.

Everyone here does things brilliantly from washing an unsteady 72 year old widower to making sure that I have everything I need

at any time, day or night. Whatever worries I have are quickly discussed and it is wonderful to have nurses here to reassure me. The meals are good and are freshly cooked, 'Home cooking' at its best. I am fully supported in my progress to being able to live independently again.

I am so glad my daughters found Broomgrove for my recovery in a happy, cheerful, caring and loving place. I recommend Broomgrove to anyone looking for a care home.

Current Review Score: 8.3 (8.250)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.3 (8.250) out of 10 for Broomgrove Trust Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.4 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.875 for Broomgrove Trust Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (21 Excellents x 5) + (3 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 24 Ratings = 4.875

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.375 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Broomgrove Trust Nursing Home is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 8 = 0.25

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
