Nothing to review, only they are left in the lounge a lot of the time.

In twenty years of visiting family and friends in care homes, I find Chapel Lodge to be the typical. Some staff are friendly and caring, others just there to do a job. I know there have been changes in the 9 months my mother has been there and she finds the turnover in care staff unsettling. I note
the best CQC report has 4 out of 5 domains needing improvement and I hope the current management will implement improvements. I am not happy with the removal of carpet in the lounge, it feels more like a visiting room since the wooden floor was installed and that seems to be a perpetual shortage of tables in there for the residents to put their drinks. There were questions about staffing at the last public meeting and it seems to me, visiting usually three times a week that some days have adequate staff cover while others seem to have a shortage of carers. Overall impression, satisfactory but could be improved.

On the times we have had to approach the management, out concerns (not complaints) have been listened to and acted upon. Staffing is very much in short supply, especially at night times but no complaints about the staff that are there.

I don't feel I can give a full review of services at this care home. My uncle is a newly admitted resident still settling into the home. At the moment service is satisfactory.

My father spent the last 15 months of his life at Chapel Lodge. He was totally incapacitated by advanced Parkinson's Disease and CPD. He was still fiercely independent and had a strong dislike of carers. However Chapel Lodge was different. The amazing staff welcomed my dad, cared for him and spent time
chatting to him. He was happy and well cared for and was always treated with dignity and respect. He thought a lot about the staff looking after him especially his key worker who was like a new family member. Chapel Lodge became home from home.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.921)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.921) out of 10 for Chapel Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.674 for Chapel Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (67 Excellents x 5) + (16 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 89 Ratings = 4.674

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.247 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Chapel Lodge is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 64 registered maximum number of service users is 12.8. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 12.8 = 0.547

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
