My father is receiving care and Ashcroft Care (Cleckheaton) has decided that only two people can visit and as he has three daughters, only two can see him, which means I can no longer see my father. This is in complete contravention of present government guidelines (as of 22/8/21). They will not supply
details of their complaints procedure because the nurse on the phone didn’t know what it was, which is illegal under present care home guidelines (CCG). They are the most obstructive people I have ever come across and the place should be shut down. How can any civilised person refuse to let a daughter go see their ill father in respite care as I consider behaviour like this inhuman. The rude and uneducated staff who aren’t aware of the law, their duties, and obligations under that law are so untrained they make it up as they go along. There needs to be a full and thorough investigation into how this place is operated including personal and medical care and full documentation checked!

Dear Jill
The home has a duty of care to ensure that both residents, staff and families are protected, and their safety is promoted at all times, especially during the Covid19 pandemic. I empathise that the Covid period has been very challenging for all concerned. Our staff have implemented National and Local Government guidelines in the management of the Covid19 pandemic, resulting in positive outcomes for our residents and staff. Your reference in your complaint to “most obstructive people I have ever come across” “place should be shut down” “behaviour like this inhumane” “rude and uneducated staff”. This type of language is completely unwarranted and tantamount to abuse, and therefore in contradiction to the positive feedback, we have received from your siblings involved in your loved one’s care.
Due to confidentiality and data protection, I am open to inviting you to make an appointment to discuss this further and I look forward to speaking to you soon.

All the staff and carers at Ashcroft treat the residents like their own family. They are concerned, respectful, approachable and very, very caring. My Mum is well looked after and happy here which gives me complete peace of mind.

Due to Covid restrictions, we were unable to visit Ashcroft prior to Mum's admittance. However, from the moment Mum arrived, her care has been exemplary. Mum has settled in very well, and without exception, every member of the Ashcroft team go out of their way to ensure Mum's care is delivered with
professionalism, kindness and dignity. We only wish Mum had gone straight to Ashcroft when she was discharged from hospital, as since arriving here, her health and strength have improved greatly. We feel this is a direct result of the outstanding care Ashcroft has provided. Thank you all.

Ashcroft Nursing Home looked after my mum, who was bedridden, for 2 years and without doubt, the best care ever was provided. The staff are all amazing and I can’t thank them enough for the care provided. They are always upbeat and friendly.

It is difficult to put into words how appreciative we all are for the care provided to my mum in the last 18 months of her life. The standard of care provided was exemplary and mum was always treated with dignity and respect. There is a fantastic positive and fun atmosphere when you visit. The staff
are all very caring, friendly, fun and all the residents are clearly happy. Often when I called, one of the staff were sat talking with my mum or doing a crossword or a jigsaw. The conservatory is very bright and airy, a great environment. It is a perfect place to visit and I have enjoyed sitting there with my mum having a chat. The communication from the team was excellent, I could tell always with my thoughts and feelings in mind when they called. Always clear and concise and put things to me in exactly the right way. Something that is really important when it's needed. Much appreciated! I will always recommend Ashcroft when asked. Thank you so much!

My mother was admitted to Ashcroft two years ago needing 24-hour care since then she has had nothing but the best care she could have had. The staff and management are wonderful, very caring and friendly.

While visiting my brother, I have always found the staff very helpful and friendly. They are caring towards all the residents and treat them with dignity. It has a nice atmosphere with music playing in the background. My brother is always telling us how good the food is and he can't fault the home at
all. I cannot say about value for money as I don't know the cost.

My father was fast tracked to the home for end of life care, this was the most difficult thing to deal with, the caring attitude and understanding of the wonderful staff here is second to none. They treat my father with such kindness and dignity and cared for the family is this difficult time. I can't
thank enough, wonderful, special people. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

My Mother had been in residence at Ashcroft since June 2010 until her death in February 2019. She was quite able in the beginning and the staff respected this, allowing her to be independent as she wished. They coped with her varying 'moods' and adjusted to her needs as she grew older and more
infirm, particular regarding her lack of sight and hearing. I had no worries about her care and safety over the years.

I particularly respected the increased care and sensitivity during the last two weeks of her life and, indeed, at the end - both to her and us.

Thank you, everyone.

My wife and I would like to thank the management and staff for the care and love shown to my sister in law whilst at Ashcroft. The management and staff went above and beyond what was expected not only to my sister in law but to ourselves and all the visitors she had.
Well done and keep up the good
work.

My father had spent his life helping others, being able, confident and always a reliable, safe pair of hands, ready to catch anyone who needed it. By the time he reached Ashcroft, he had used so much of his energy dealing with all of the complex issues which accompany an aggressive cancer. The staff
at Ashcroft made us feel welcome as a family, made every effort to identify Dad's needs as specifically as possible and did everything they could to make him comfortable and pain-free in his final days. Housekeeping, care, nursing and management staff were compassionate, friendly and respectful, helping Dad maintain his dignity and composure during his stay. I will be forever grateful for the care shown to my father, mother and my extended family while we were at our most vulnerable. Thank you.

My brother spent the last weeks of his life in Ashcroft Nursing Home. The staff are to be applauded for the care and compassion which they showed throughout to my brother, and to our family. With their much-valued help and expertise, we were able to get through this very difficult time. Many thanks

My uncle stayed here for just under 3 weeks on end of life care. He had cancer. The staff were amazing. They were very respectful and cared for my uncle incredibly well. No matter how many times I called, it was never a trouble and I had updates when things changed. I would not hesitate to recommend
this care home and the staff that work there.

My father was in this nursing home for 20 months. He loved the food, especially the cooked breakfast.
There is a lovely patio seating area which is lovely in the summer months. The staff are welcoming and friendly. My father liked them all.

My mother was a resident at Ashcroft for over two years and I was always happy with the care she received. If I expressed any minor concerns they were dealt with immediately. I found the manager, nursing staff and carers very approachable and gave the very best care to my mother. I visited on average
four times a week and always found my mother comfortable, clean and well cared for.

My mother moved into the home after being assessed as no longer being able to look after herself safely. She took to Ashcroft immediately and was constantly saying how friendly and helpful the staff were. Previously we were concerned that she seemed to be socialising less and spending too much time
on her own. This changed straight away after moving in, and there is no doubt that she was happier and more relaxed than she had been for some years.
A very big thank you from us to the management, the staff and the admin staff who were also always helpful and friendly. Sadly Mum has now died, but we are really pleased that she lived her last few years at Ashcroft.

We viewed several care homes in the West Yorkshire area and we choose Ashcroft to take care of my mum as it had that friendly feeling and very welcoming.

My mum was in Ashcroft for 4 weeks and we could not have asked for more care while she was there.

The staff were helpful, pleasant and caring,

especially towards the end of life care my mum received in her last days at Ashcroft.

The staff were so kind to let me stop over night with my mum, and always made sure I was okay and were very supportive throughout.

I would like to thank each member of staff, they do not get recognised enough for the care they give.

Thanks again.

Our father spent the last 2 months of his life at Ashcroft, as well as a couple of respite stays before then. We were very happy with the level of care provided and the support given. There was a very warm and friendly atmosphere which we liked from day one. Staff were always friendly, helpful, kind
and caring. We felt they cared well for Dad and were sensitive to his needs, as well as to us as a family. Ashcroft feels more like a family home than some care homes we visited, and we felt this was important for our Dad. Everywhere is very clean and well kept. Dad was always clean, well shaven, in clean clothes whenever we visited, and we felt that he was being really well looked after. Staff phoned us if there was ever any issue, and were very welcoming of our phone calls and visits. They were kind and considerate towards Dad, and also us as a family, recognising how difficult it was for us. We are very grateful that Dad was so well cared for in the final weeks of his life.

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.225)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.225) out of 10 for Ashcroft Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.325 for Ashcroft Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (80 Excellents x 5) + (16 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (12 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 114 Ratings = 4.325

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ashcroft Nursing Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
