Eden Court is a small, warm and welcoming care home situated in the heart of Birkenshaw, a pleasant village within easy reach of Leeds and Bradford and the major motorway networks.

The home provides residential, nursing and respite care. The new Balmoral Unit specialises in caring for people with neurological conditions.

Eden Court has a homely and relaxing atmosphere with bright and comfortable communal areas including a conservatory, two communal TV lounges, a dining room, a hairdresser salon and a resident’s kitchenette.

Residents and families are welcome to bring personal items to make their room as homely as possible.

Residents can enjoy the extensive gardens with great views from most of the bedrooms or communal areas. Everyone is welcome to spend time sitting out on the patio.

The dedicated multi-disciplinary team promotes health and well-being by providing person-centred care and by involving the local community in most of the events.

Residents are encouraged to pursue their own interests and hobbies by joining the daily activity program. It will include outings and trips, in-house activities range from board games, quizzes, baking, gardening, art and crafts and reminiscence activities as well as musical entertainers.

The view of all residents is essential especially in the planning of weekly menus. A Food Forum and a resident meeting are held on a monthly basis where residents and family members are invited to put their views across.

Specialist services are available including visiting GPs, specialist nurses, dentist, chiropodist, optician, holistic therapist and religious services.

Families are encouraged to get involved with all decisions regarding the care of their family member. Their opinions are both helpful and appreciated.

My dad did not have a 'health label' so was passed around hospitals, rehabilitation & care facilities for the last 6 months of his life. The care he received in these places was not appropriate and contributed to a loss of mobility & poor mental health. When it was finally realised that he simply needed
care, I was asked to find him a home so he could be looked after. It is a travesty that services came to this realisation so late.
There was something very special about the empathetic, positive and supportive attitude of the manager at Eden Court Care Home. She was kindly assertive, compassionate and proactive. This was also reflected in all the other staff I met.
My dad arrived at Eden Court with no mobility, little/no independence skills and was in great pain both physically and mentally. His life only continued for 2 weeks (which no-one pre-empted). His last words to me were "Thank you for getting me here - this is the first time I have felt safe in months".
Thank you Eden Court!

My dad was difficult to care for at times but the staff treated him with respect and dignity. He was here for just over 2 years and was well looked after, me and my family appreciated everything that was done for him. When I needed to talk to someone the nurses and carers were there for me too. At the
end of life, I couldn't have asked for better care and I will miss visiting the care home. Thank you for everything.

My mum was in for end-of-life care and from the moment we first spoke to the Home Manager about mum being cared for we felt as part of a family. Nothing was a problem every meltdown I had was met with a hug and a solution. All mums needs and more so just a natter and a giggle were given 24 hours a day
for the 9 weeks we were there. I/we can still call in for a hug and a cuppa even though she's gone. The staff are outstanding the whole place is clean and welcoming.

My mum has been a resident at Eden Court Nursing Home for the past 4 years. I have nothing but praise for all the staff involved in my mum's care. Everyone is so caring and understanding of my mum's complex needs. The building is bright and welcoming and her room is immaculately kept. All communal areas
are well set out and the residents benefit from light entertainment from visiting singers. I play the piano there most weeks. There is such a friendly atmosphere throughout the home which makes visiting a pleasant experience. Thank you to everyone for your hard work and care.

My mother was in Eden Court Care Home for only a few months before she sadly passed away after Christmas. We were delighted with the care and compassion shown by all the staff at Eden Court and have nothing but praise for them all. When well, my mum was kept occupied and looked after by lovely care
staff who cheered her up, spent time with her and gave her the company she needed.
When not well, the nursing staff took more of a role and gave her all the care and attention she needed in her final weeks, to ensure she was as comfortable as possible. I would wholeheartedly recommend Eden Court to anyone wanting the best personal care for their family member.

My parents were both residents at Eden Court Care Home until my dad sadly passed away in 2020. Since then, my mum was on her own right through covid and the grieving process. During this time the staff at Eden Court were right there with her. Helping her through one of the most difficult times of her
life.
I can't stress enough how kind and caring the staff were during this time and continue to be. Making this my mum's home. She gets treated with respect and care. I feel safe knowing my mum is in safe hands.

My mum - moved into Eden Court Care Home, approx two and a half years ago, until she passed away in May 2022. We can't thank the staff enough for the care, attention and love they showed to my mum. She was happy, clean and content when we visited every time. Whenever we visited they made us feel at
home and that my mum was in safe hands. Thank you

My mum spent a very short time at Eden Court nursing home. Whilst my mum was there, the care she received was to an extremely high standard. The nurses and care assistants went above and beyond to ensure my mum had personalised care and she was treated as an individual. The staff were kind, caring,
friendly and compassionate. They treated my mum with privacy and dignity. I would like to say a huge thank you.

Words cannot fully express how deeply indebted our family is to all the staff at Eden Court for the love and care you have shown us, my mum and of course my dad, who sadly passed away a week ago. We have been so in awe of your bravery and devotion to those in your care during the most difficult, challenging
circumstances - reassuring us along the way. You are our heroes. To hand over the primary care of your dearest loved ones to someone else is one of the hardest decisions we, as a family, have had to make. Yet, in you all, we have found an extension to our family and have felt completely able to trust your judgment and advice at all times. You enabled Dad to have a good quality of life and he forged strong, loving relationships with you all. The musical activities, parties and visits from the school children were certainly highlights for him. You also enabled Dad to have a dignified, peaceful end. We will never forget the love and care you gave him, and us. Thank you.

My mum needed to go into a care home in July 2017, we looked around the area and chose Eden Court because on our initial visit we could see the care and attention that was given to the residents. She had two years in the home, sadly passing away in August 2019. During her time there, she was comfortable,
always well looked after and had plenty of good times with the other residents and staff. She enjoyed different activities within the home, she particularly enjoyed the visits from the local school children and singing with the local choir as well as trips to local garden centres etc. The end of life care given to mum will always be remembered by the family, for the care, compassion, kindness and understanding by all the staff.

My Mum has advanced dementia. After caring for her at home for many years, sadly it then became necessary to find a Nursing Home. We looked at lots and eventually chose ‘Eden Court’.
Whilst a Mum has been there, the staff have looked after her with great kindness and care, ensuring her needs are met
at all times. They have been a massive support to us as a family, at what has been a very sad/emotional time.

I would like you to know that the love and care given to mummy and my family by all the staff at Eden Court was nothing short of superb.
I will be eternally grateful to all of the staff as each and every one of them supported and cared for us right till the very end of mummy's life.
They arranged
mummy's departure from the home with the undertakers with the upmost dignity and I would like each and every one of them to know this:-
Myself and my family will be eternally grateful for all the love and care the staff showed both mummy and us, her family, during her stay at Eden Court. The team are simply the best team ever at Eden Court and I am so very glad we chose Eden Court to care for our mummy.
The staff are all a credit to the care profession and should be very proud of everything they do. I know their job is not the easiest but no one never let that show. They cared for her right to the very end of her life and I would just like to say:- Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

My mum has been at Eden Court for six months and she has settled in well. Because she has to be hoisted I was worried that she would be left in her room a lot but this is certainly not the case. She is in the lounge all day which is what she wants and then took to the dining room for breakfast, dinner
and tea. She has a lot of stimulation here. There are regular activities including ball games, card games, painting and singing. There are regular entertainers that come to the home who are very good and the residents enjoy. Since been here my mum has improved mentally and I am very happy with the care she receives. She is very happy at Eden Court.

Current Review Score: 8.8 (8.797)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.8 (8.797) out of 10 for Eden Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.8 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.978 for Eden Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (45 Excellents x 5) + (1 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 46 Ratings = 4.978

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.819 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Eden Court Care Home is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 45 registered maximum number of service users is 9. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 9 = 0.444

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

I have been a Registered Nurse for almost 15 years after leaving university I spent the first 10 years of my career working with adults with profound learning disabilities and associated complex health needs. 6 years as a Nurse then 4 as Manager of a dedicated respite service, which received a good CQC rating. Working as a Learning Disabilities nurse enabled me to develop good person-centred and holistic care skills but I wanted to develop my clinical skills as well. So, 5 Years ago I moved into Elderly care, I worked as a Nurse first before joining the team at Eden Court as a Home Manager in October 2021. I am very pleased and proud to be a part of the caring and compassionate team here.

Our dedicated Nurses, Carers and Ancillary staff work tirelessly to ensure our residents receive excellent, person-centred care. We encourage families to remain involved in the care of their loved ones and support them to visit often and bring children and pets along. There are areas within the home where larger family gatherings such as birthdays can be accommodated.

The Nursing team at Eden Court are very experienced and knowledgeable, between us we have many years of experience in a variety of Health and Social Care settings. In the past few months, some of our Senior Carers have completed the CHAP's course to give them extra clinical skills to support the Nursing team and improve clinical care across the home.
