I recently asked my father if he was happy there, and he said he was. The staff have clearly built a positive relationship with my father, and he is fond of many of the staff. I noted respect and dignity towards other residents as we walked past them. It seemed like needs were met. My father looked
well cared for and seemed relaxed at Southfield.

Southfield Court has provided my dad with excellent care. They have shown us that my dad is looked after with true care and compassion, and have been excellent with keeping us up to date with everything that goes on around his health and care. Staff have been lovely with us, and we look forward to seeing
and speaking with them during our visits. The room is clean and tidy, and other residents look happy and settled.

I have been very impressed with the care given at Southfield Court. Staff have really supported my Dad and provided the care that he requires. There are also numerous entertainment activities to keep them occupied. I feel that the carers are really interested in and do their best to properly care for
my Dad, so much that he has shown improvement whilst being a resident here. Thank you all so much!

I’m really happy now with the care that my mum is getting. She is well looked after, and the staff seem to genuinely care about her health and well-being, as well as making me feel that I’m not being too much of a pain when I want to speak to her or visit regularly! In what have been extremely challenging
circumstances, thank you to all the staff for helping Mum and me!

My mum has Alzheimer's and she has been in care for over 10-years. She received fantastic care from Southfield court during this time. I know during this difficult time that she is happy and cared for, and I have had regular contact phone with staff. Nothing has been too much trouble, and for that,
I am so grateful, its means that it's one less thing to worry about. Vaccination has now taken place for Mum and me, so hopefully, we can very soon get back to normal. Thank you to all staff for making Mums life bearable for the last year.

I had a garden visit with my husband. It was very good to see him and that he was being well looked after. He looked happy. I haven't been inside the home since March so it's difficult to rate some of the options.

Staff really do care and are aware of residents' needs and requirements, therefore providing a relaxed pleasant environment. The menu provided is varied and provided to a high standard. At times it is based on one of the journeys that the home undertakes as one of the activities for the residents.

My mum moved in just before the Covid lockdown. The care she had received has been fantastic, enabling her to settle in very quickly. The staff have taken the time to really get to know mum. They keep us regularly updated via the social media group and are so friendly and helpful whenever I call. Knowing
that she is so well looked after, gives peace of mind to me and my family. Thank you!

Over the past three weeks, through such difficult times of the Coronavirus outbreak internationally, I cannot fault Southfield and its carers. I am not able to see my dad, which is heartbreaking but seeing him through a window on my daily walk, I know he is being well looked after and kept clean. The
carers and all who work there and that I have met genuinely care for dad and make sure his needs are met. I’d love to mention names to give thanks and praise. I certainly will be clapping for you all. Thank you and keep going.

My Dad has just ended his life in this home. I am not "allowed" to name the people who have been absolutely outstanding in seeing my Dad out, pain-free. This is a shame. You should be recognised. Thank you so much.

Southfield Court is now a nice well-presented home, staff are kind and friendly and work hard. The new management team are friendly and approachable and have made huge improvements since starting in 2016.
The home has been nicely decorated and new furniture added, the garden is being done for summer
and activities planned for residents and relatives.

I have seen a great improvement at the care home over the time I have been visiting. I must congratulate the management in their time and effort to make a better more efficient and happier place for the residents.

The carers have a difficult task at times in their working day and I find that the

majority of them are worth their weight in gold. There is an activity team who work well with the residents, the medical team are always available to talk to about your worries. The only negative I have is the food. It could do with improvement. Other than that Southfield Court is a wonderful dementia care home.

My husband was here for 2 1/2 weeks. The care he received was 5*, the carers are all lovely and do care for the residents wonderfully. There is always some interaction going on it may be one to one or in a group. The residents are offered drinks hourly and something to eat like a piece of cake or biscuit.
The motto of the home is they do not live in our workplace we work in their home, and you see this every day. My husband's room was big spacious and light with a view over the front of the home. My husband passed away here, but the care he had I could not have asked for any better. Everyone from the cook to the home manager could not have done any more for him. They ensured he was pain free and he died with dignity. I stayed with him day and night for the final 3 days, ithe staff couldn't do enough for me. Would I recommend this care home YES I would 100%. It is everything I was looking for. The home is clean spacious, calming and no smell. All the staff are lovely they all care.

The staff have a very good understanding of dad's complex, unpredictable behaviour. He has settled well in this environment and I do think this has a lot to do with how the staff handle him.

Placing your loved one in a care home is a truly horrendous experience. Over the last 10 months, I have seen a marked improvement in the home. There is still lots to do i.e Outside grounds, outside recreational area. I hope that these are on the agenda so that residents can spend time outside and remain
safe? The staff try their best in very challenging situations. Their training has resulted in better understanding of dementia - may that continue, knowledge of the disease is paramount in their care.

My mother has been a resident in Southfield Court for over two years. During this period the home has experienced several changes of management. However, over the last 6 months, there has been a real improvement. My mother is content and well cared for by a dedicated and caring team. Recent whole staff
training has impacted well on the experience. Any issues that we have had have been addressed quickly and effectively. I trust the home to care for my mother, I feel well supported by the Southfield Court.

Current Review Score: 8.4 (8.394)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.4 (8.394) out of 10 for Southfield Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.6 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.844 for Southfield Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (27 Excellents x 5) + (5 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 32 Ratings = 4.844

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.55 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Southfield Court Care Home is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 50 registered maximum number of service users is 10. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 10 = 0.3

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Kelly Thorton

Job Title: Home Manager

Kelly has worked in the Health and Social Care Sector since she was 19 years old and cannot see herself doing anything different. She began as a care assistant in a nursing home. Since then, she has progressed from Care Assistant to Senior Care Assistant, to Deputy Manager and now Home Manager. Kelly received a long service award at her previous home, which she worked at for 12 years. She has also been told by a professional that ‘every home needs a Kelly’ which she is very proud of. Outside of work, Kelly loves exploring the outdoors with her two dogs. She also has a keen interest in photography. Words of encouragement from Kelly for someone looking for the right care home would be: “I would say do the research. Look into the care rather than the cosmetics.”
