Colton Lodges Care Home, situated in the historic town of Colton, near Leeds, supports older people to lead their best lives with personalised residential, nursing and dementia care.

I visit regularly at Colton Lodge and I have found it to be quite a depressing time. The residents just sit in the lounge staring at the walls, there is no or hardly any interaction between residents and staff. On visiting my friend or making requests to staff such as nail cutting, hand washing, and
cuts - their reply is yes it will get done but takes weeks for basic needs to be met. There is minimum communication between staff - no one seems to know any answers.

Thanks for taking time to review Colton Lodges Care Home, I am sorry to hear that you do not feel the home is to your standard. I can confirm that we have 4 Activity Co-ordinators working across the home, a monthly Wellbeing planner is created with our resident's involvement into what activities they would like to participate in for the month. I can confirm colleagues use diaries and daily handover records to communicate from shift to shift, we also have House Managers in each unit to communicate with colleagues and attend a daily flash briefing. My investigation found that residents are offered daily care and this is documented on each residents Personal Hygiene Record. If you would like to discuss your concerns further please do not hesitate to contact the House Manager or Home Manager.

I am very pleased with the care Mum is given at Colton Lodges. The staff are always friendly and smiling, and are always happy to answer any questions. If there are any problems, they contact me immediately and contact the doctor immediately if there are any medical issues. There are lots of activities
for residents to take part in. Mum always says she enjoys the food and that it is appetising and nicely cooked.

The decision to put Gran in a care home was really difficult and took us a long time to pick the best one. We visited 4 homes in Leeds. We chose Colton Lodges after a second visit at a different time. The staff are lovely, so kind and caring. Gran is on the general nursing unit. She has a lovely room
looking out onto the garden. I live far away and find it difficult to visit but I'm always getting updates on how Gran is and how well she is looking. The family cannot fault the care she is receiving. Thank you all for making us feel at ease.

Keep up the good work. Very nice environment, staff are good and helpful. My Nan is very happy. Very nicely decorated, homely feel in the lounge. My Nan's room is lovely. Overall lovely place, I'm very happy.

My husband has been a resident requiring nursing and dementia care since last December. Overall I have been very happy with everything. The care and support offered, not just to him, but to me too has been amazing. If I am there at a mealtime, I am always offered a meal too and tea or coffee is always
offered. The residents are treated with dignity and respect, (they are consulted over which clothes they want to wear that day for example and they are shown plates of each choice of main course at meal times so it is easy for them to choose what they want). Every member of staff, be they nursing, caring, catering, housekeeping, maintenance, admin, or management is very friendly and approachable and I feel it is important to them that their residents are as happy and comfortable as possible.

I was amazed at how much furniture was thrown away during the months of decorating the home. A lot of the items were in good order and could have been passed on, given to charity, or kept in the home for continued use.
The replacement wash basins in the rooms are awful without a plug and a waste of
water after the residents wash with a running tap! The shelf in the wardrobe is too high to reach.
At the end of the corridor there was homely wallpaper of plants and books now it is just white emulsion, as clinical.

Thanks for taking the time to review Colton Lodges Care Home. I am sorry that you feel the furniture was in good order, however the furniture we previously had was old and required replacing to meet Infection Control Standards. We aim to give our residents the best possible experience hence the full home refurbishment we undertook in 2023. The home was styled by our Interior Design Team and residents were involved in the design planning via their resident meetings to ensure they had input into how their own home would look. I am sorry that the shelf is too high. However, the wardrobes were a like for like replacement in relation to the size and shape. If you would like our Maintenance Operative to lower the wardrobe shelf please contact the home directly and they will arrange this.

Dad was only expected to live a week but with the excellent care provided he has been in Colton Lodges Care Home for eight months.
Staff are amazing and really caring. We just love them and owe them a great deal.

My Grandad has just been admitted into the care home a few months ago. What a difference it has made to his well-being. He’s putting on weight, engaging in activities and smiling again. He loves his room overlooking the well kept gardens, watching the wildlife. The Staff are good and look after my Nan

I am very pleased overall with the care of my dad. I can see all of the staff are very caring and considerate and it's always a pleasure to chat to them. I realise my dad can be a bit difficult at times with personal care but I can see that he is dealt with, with dignity. When I phone, nothing is too
much trouble. I look forward to the day I can pop in at any time but I appreciate that rules etc. are being followed properly. Dad always seems clean and in clean clothes.

I cannot fault the care given to Mum at Colton Lodges Care Home. She had an unsettled start when first admitted but staff spent time reassuring her and making her feel like she was at home. She always looks well kept on all our visits. Her room is clean, tidy and has a homely feel. Admin and management
are so caring, always happy to help in every way,
I'm so glad Mum is at Colton Lodges.

My aunty is looked after very well. The care she received is of the highest standard. They make her as one of the family. The food is excellent.

I come to see my sister every week. She is always playing bingo with the ladies in the lounge. She is always in her wheelchair, driving up and down. She is always clean and today as she is a very glammed up lady. I'm happy she is here.

Danielle

Danielle Longthorn

Job Title: Home Manager

“For me, kind care is treating everyone with respect and dignity, while offering choice and promoting independence.”


As a Registered Nurse, Danielle has gained a wealth of experience in providing care and nursing support to elderly people, to enrich their lives. She is a knowledgeable and dedicated leader who is passionate about delivering the highest standards in care and quality of life for Residents.


Danielle chose to become Home Manager at Colton Lodges as she closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for each and every Resident. She extends this caring approach to her Colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to Residents in a way that they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.


When asked what she enjoys most about her role, Danielle remarked:


“Making a difference to people’s lives, it’s a pleasure to see our Resident’s living happy and fulfilled lives.”


Outside of work, Danielle is a devoted wife and mother to two boys who enjoys travelling to America, she hopes to visit all 52 states in her lifetime. In her spare time, she is a big supporter of football, rugby, American football and ice hockey.
