Ghyll Royd is located in the semi-rural area of Guiseley, near Ilkley and Otley. It is a purpose-built home which has been designed to the highest specifications. Great care has been taken to provide a homely, warm and welcoming atmosphere. The highly trained team at Ghyll Royd pride themselves on putting residents’ needs first and creating the best possible environment in which to enable them to care for residents’ needs. Residents and their families are supported throughout the move into the care home, which the team understand can be a big change.

Ghyll Royd has four communities, Willow, Rowan, Beech and Blossom. Each area is designed to create a safe and positive environment for residents.

All bedrooms have en-suite facilities and are stylishly decorated with a high-quality finish; residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms to make it feel homely. The communal areas are light and spacious, designed with comfort and social interaction in mind.

Ghyll Royd Care Home offers residents permanent General Nursing, Nursing Dementia, Residential Dementia and Complex care, with additional palliative care and respite options.

Care and nursing staff very good and helpful.
Only negatives are room wasn't always kept as tidy as perhaps it could have been, bed left unmade. Food was ok, but being picky it might have been nicer to have had a bit more choice and some of it was a bit bland, though portion sizes were good.

I would definitely recommend Ghyll Royd Nursing Home. From my first enquiry visit, the manager was very helpful and supportive. Both the manager and her deputy took their time to explain everything clearly to me. Although my mum's time with them was short, we were made to feel very welcome and cared
for. All the care teams were friendly, efficient and kind. The manager stood out as an exceptional manager, using both her nursing background and empathy to personally help us through a difficult time. Thank you again.

My mother was in Ghyll Royd Nursing Home for palliative care and was only there for a week but throughout that time, all the staff were very kind and respectful in all their dealings with Mum. Very attentive to her every need, ensuring she was comfortable and not distressed. The rooms are very pleasant
and the communal areas are very good. I would like to thank the staff for their empathy and kindness to us all as a family when Mum passed.

My husband has been at Ghyll Royd Nursing Home for just over two years and from day one, he's been treated with dignity and compassion. The carers and nurses are kind and polite and are always friendly towards him. He is always clean and well cared for with each minor problem dealt with quickly and
efficiently. He is well-fed and encouraged to eat and drink often (this can be a problem for him). I am so pleased I chose Ghyll Royd to be his home.

My mother lived in Ghyll Royd Nursing Home for over ten and a half years, after she was discharged from the hospital at the age of 89, with high physical and mental care needs.
Carers and nursing staff provide professional, knowledgeable care enhanced by their friendly approach. Mum was also treated
respectfully and her dignity was maintained. Staff who have worked at the home for many years provide an important backbone of consistency.
The home works as a whole community. All the staff - housekeepers, laundry workers, receptionists etc. chat with residents and family as they go about their work.
Any health issues and proposed changes to the care plans are shared promptly by the unit nurse, who was always ready to discuss any of our concerns.
There is an excellent partnership with a local primary health centre, which enables timely access to consistent medical care.
In Mum's final days, the staff on the unit, day and night, were wonderfully kind and supportive to us as a family.

Our friend has been in Ghyll Royd for some weeks and has been treated with dignity and respect, unlike previous nursing homes she was in. The staff were always asking if we were okay. A meeting helped to sort out any problems and queries. Our friend was much more comfortable and didn't complain about
the carers like at previous homes.

Our mother has been a resident of Ghyll Royd Nursing Home for nearly three years and has celebrated her 99th, 100th and 101st birthdays there. On each occasion, she was made to feel really special. My husband and I chose Ghyll Royd after visiting seven other nursing homes. Walking in was such a relief
and we immediately felt the welcoming homeliness and efficiency, backed up by the then manager’s description of their priorities and aims. Our more recent experiences have only confirmed those initial feelings and we continue to feel confident in all aspects of her care. The staff are so pleasant and available, extending their empathy to me and other family members, as well as our mother. I would be the first to accept that our mum isn’t the easiest of residents but their patience and gentle coaxing ensure she has the best of care and that she is content in her room surrounded by her belongings.

My mother has lived at Ghyll Royd for over 2 years and has been well looked after by the caring staff. I looked at a lot of homes before Ghyll Royd. It was a relief to find a light spacious home with gardens in a good location but it was the staff who decided it for me. Within minutes of sitting down
with the manager, I knew this was the right place for my mother. It's been a relief to know she is getting a good standard of care as her needs increase and she has been as safe as possible during the pandemic. Relatives are kept informed of how the home is managing Covid and the staff are supportive, friendly and professional.

My father had lived at Ghyll Royd for the past 4 years. The care that my Dad received was of a very high standard. Staff treated him as an individual at all times and were caring, considerate, respectful and open. Dad and I were always included in his plan of care and any concerns or worries I had -
which were very few - were always answered and addressed immediately if necessary. We all worked as a good team with happy times. There wasn’t just Dad, the team were very caring towards his family over the years. Supporting us through the ups and downs of his illness. The last covid year has been very hard however the team at Ghyll Royd did their best in a very difficult situation for myself and his granddaughters to maintain some form of contact with my Dad and finally being able to go back into his room to visit was wonderful. Dad passed away a few weeks ago and I shall always be grateful to the Ghyll Royd team for their exceptional level of care maintained to the end of Dad’s life.

The home is well run and very clean, the rooms and common areas are spacious and nicely decorated and there is a nice garden with tables and chairs. I have known the staff over many years they are always welcoming and friendly and my family member is well cared for, they have been wonderful during the
difficulties of COVID. I always feel there is a homely atmosphere. It is difficult to answer the question on safety and security because I know nothing about fire regulations. Judging by the proficiency of the home in other matters I assume they are excellent.

My Stepdad who has very advanced dementia has been a resident for quite a few years now and can honestly say I have always felt fully confident that all his needs are being met, both physically and mentally. He is always well cared for, clean and comfortable whenever we visit and the care home is clean,
welcoming and calm at all times. We are an hour and a half away so this is especially reassuring to know that he is being well cared for and safe. The communication is really good too from the team and always prompt and professional. The staff seems to know him really well too. He has stayed the same weight or thereabouts all this time which is a massive credit to the whole team as he needs to be fed and is fully dependent on staff for food and drinks. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts and from our Mum who is no longer with us but would be very reassured too that her husband is safe and cared for.

I just wanted to pass on my thanks to the staff who have made a difficult time for our family that bit easier. We moved my dad into Ghyll Royd on the 29th Dec after only making the initial contact on the 26th. It’s obviously been a challenging time, with the additional complications of the covid restrictions.
We feel totally reassured that Dad is receiving really special, personal care, which is obviously so important to us. One member of staff, in particular, has gone above and beyond to communicate with me and answer our many queries. She has sent some lovely pictures and messages which we have really appreciated. It’s obviously only very early days for all of us, but so far, the staff have really helped Dad to settle in and have supported us as well.

I cannot express enough how the home has cared for my mother and at times, the situation has been very difficult for the carers and nursing staff to deal with. Always there to chat to you, even when they are busy. I would recommend this home to anyone 100%.

Nichola

Nichola Gawthrop

Hi, my name is Nichola Gawthrop. I am the Registered Manager here at Ghyll Royd. I qualified as a General Nurse (RGN) in March 2011.


Prior to qualifying as a Nurse at The University of Bradford, I worked for 10 years as a Senior Health Care Assistant in a health and social care environment (here at Ghyll Royd Care Home), caring for elderly people and people living with dementia. This role enabled me to gain valuable experience ensuring people I looked after received high standards of care which are vital to skills in nursing.


While working at Bradford Royal Infirmary, I gained experience in different wards and departments: Elderly Orthopaedic, Elderly medicine, Oncology, ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat), Ophthalmic, Vascular and Accident & Emergency.


I consistently demonstrate and deliver high standards of clinical care. I operate using a person-centred approach and care deeply about the quality of care people receive. I love working with people and aim to achieve the best possible outcome for the people I care for.

Hi, I would like to introduce myself to Ghyll Royd Nursing home, as the new Deputy manager Jo Greenhough. With over 20 years’ experience working in the healthcare sector, specialising in elderly care, community district nursing, ward-based, and care homes. I’m really excited to have joined the Ghyll Royd Nursing Home Team and look forward to what the future brings.

Hello, my name is Ian and I am one of the Unit Managers here at Ghyll Royd Nursing Home.


I have worked here since 2015 and enjoy providing high-quality nursing care for our residents. I have a particular interest in palliative care, and introducing the Gold Standard Framework best-practice approaches to the Home.


The unit I am responsible for is called ‘Yew’ and is on the ground floor of the building. I like to encourage team cooperation and good communication and to create an atmosphere that feels welcoming for everybody.

My name is Dawn Goodings and I joined the Ghyll Royd team in November 2021.


Before starting here I worked as a funeral facilitator for Heavenly Services, and before that, I was a Home Administrator for Anchor for over 16 years.


I have always been interested in meeting people and helping them to the best of my ability. I try to have a happy and helpful nature at all times with everyone I meet through work, listening to them and assisting them in whatever they need.


I hope to support my colleagues and the wider Ghyll Royd team in maintaining a CQC inspection rating of ‘Good’ whilst striving towards ‘Outstanding’.

Hi, my name is Pauline, I am the Head Housekeeper here at Ghyll Royd Care Home.


I first worked at Ghyll Royd in 2017 as an Activity Coordinator. Following a year’s leave in 2020, I returned as Head Housekeeper.


I love working in the residents' homes, visiting them for a chat and a catch-up whenever I can.


I am proud to lead an excellent team of Housekeepers, who all take pride in their work, always ensuring the home looks its best and is comfortable for residents.

My name is Eruel Bugaoan, I joined the Housekeeping Team here at Ghyll Royd Care Home in August 2023.


I feel that getting to know our residents on a personal level adds enjoyment and fulfilment to my work.


I like things to be done correctly, and to have a clean, presentable and friendly home to showcase.


I love seeing residents with smiles on their faces after tidying their homes.

My name is Luke Moorhouse and I started work here at Ghyll Royd Nursing Home in 2009.


I hold a level 3 NVQ in professional cooking and a level 2 qualification in cake decoration. Before Ghyll Royd, I worked at Thomas Danby College, Farthing's Restaurant, and Whitakers in Otley.


I am passionate about cooking good food, prepared fresh on the premises, and I strive to maintain the highest standards at all times. I want all our residents to have a positive dining experience, and I like to consult with my colleagues, residents, and visitors about how to continually improve and adapt our menus.

I have been a Senior Carer at Ghyll Royd Care Home since February 2023 and enjoy meeting people and providing a high-quality standard of care for our residents. It feels like I have been here for a long time which is a great thought to have!


I graduated with a Bachelor of Science, since gaining further training, certificates and experience. I know deep in my heart that I want to show and give my time, love and care for our dear elderly and their families too. What makes you feel better than being kind and giving the unconditional love that they deserve day by day with respect and maintaining their dignity?

Hello, my name is Dawn Mathers I am a Senior Carer, mainly based on Beech Community.


I have worked here at Ghyll Royd for five years and have 32 years of care experience.


I have an NVQ2 and NVQ3 and attend regular training at Ghyll Royd.


I have very high standards of care and am proud of the individual person-centred approach which I provide for the ladies and gentlemen who I have been entrusted to care for who are living with dementia.


I give the highest quality of care with dignity for the lovely residents and support their families too.

My name is Kim Knaggs and I'm an Activities Coordinator (Otherwise known as a 'pink lady').


My role is to help residents to access activities in groups or to take the activity to them individually.


I love to make a difference in someone's day, make them laugh, smile, enjoy themselves and try something new.


It's important to be there to listen to residents and their families too - I like to think I'm very approachable.


My love of dogs and dog rescue can combine with work when I bring in dogs for pet therapy.
