I just wanted to thank Bedford Court for the way they made mother's last few years so pleasurable. All the staff were very caring and couldn't do enough for her. As with all homes, there are improvements that could be made in some areas if resources were unlimited, but its heart is in the right place
and I had no concerns over the way my mother was looked after.

Reply from Jenny Stobbs, Manager at Bedford Court (Olive Lodge)

Thank you for your lovely words. It was a pleasure to care for your mum. She was a great character and a big part of our Bedford Court family.

This care home used to be good but in the last year has really gone downhill. The management team are laughable, no kettle in the kitchenette for 4 days, how long does it take to get a kettle? The toilet is leaking into downstairs and will not be fixed for over 4 days. Believe this is a health and safety
issue.
Look elsewhere for a care home!

Reply from Jenny Stobbs, Manager at Bedford Court (Olive Lodge)

Hi, Thank you for your review. I am sorry to hear of your concerns. I can confirm that the kettle has been replaced. The delay was due to there being no management on site to purchase a new one. The toilet took a little longer than expected to be fixed due to having to order the part that was needed. As per our telephone conversation, we will meet to discuss other issues you have raised on the agreed date. Kind RegardsJenny

Dad moved into Bedford Court (Olive Lodge) in December 2023, initially for respite after a fall. The home is welcoming and all the staff are caring and helpful. The managers are always available and their doors are always open. Dad now has a permanent room and appears settled. I can thoroughly recommend
Olive Lodge.

The home is a beautiful place, the best I have seen of its kind. It's in a nice location and my friend has a beautiful room with a balcony and a lovely view over the housetops. There are some things I have not rated as I do not know enough to make a valid comment, but I would definitely live here.

Approximately three years ago my wife and I in our late 90s could not care for ourselves so our sons applied for us to live in Bedford court. We were made very welcome and really cared for. When my beloved wife passed away last year the help and kindness of the staff was exceptional and I cannot thank
them enough to get me over that sad time. Thank you.

The staff in Bedford Court are, without exception, professional, caring and responsive to my mother's needs and wishes. She has been able to furnish her room as she wants which has helped her to settle into life in a care facility.

My Mum went into Bedford Court for a weeks respite whilst I took a much needed break.
We have never needed to use respite before so this was a new experience. We chose Bedford Court as it is local and was recommended to us by my Mums neighbourhood care team.
From the minute she arrived, we were both
made to feel extremely welcome.
Mum was very well cared for during her week there and it was a relief to be able to relax knowing she was being safely looked after. She was encouraged to mix with other residents which was very pleasing as she had lost her confidence during the many months of shielding due to Covid. She made new friends and joined in a couple of activities. She really enjoyed the services of the Chiropodist and Hairdresser. Mum was very impressed with the food and enjoyed her meals. The staff were very caring without being too intrusive as Mum still enjoys some independence.
I would not hesitate in recommending Bedford Court and will definitely use them again.

I researched very carefully which care home my father should go to and am very pleased that I chose Bedford Court. He was there for 7 months and received a high standard of care throughout that time, especially so during the last few weeks of his life. The staff (carers, management, admin and domestic)
all showed genuine care and compassion for him, my mother and myself and did everything possible to make him feel valued and comfortable. I would highly recommend this care home.

My friend and neighbour became unable to live safely at her home of 59 years. My wife and I researched available care homes and found Olive Lodge the most suitable. Since moving in she has flourished. She is happy, comfortable, safe and eating regularly. She has got stronger; her sociability has improved
and enjoys a much-improved quality of life. Each time we visit we are delighted and amazed by the change. The care is superb and the management system reflects a genuine concern for the residents.

Choosing the correct Care Home is a stressful time. I chose Bedford Court for my Mum mainly because it was at the top of our road. Any doubts I had were quelled almost immediately and we have never regretted our decision for mum to live there. Mum's health steadily improved from the wonderful care she
received. I cannot praise Bedford court and in particular its wonderful staff more.

It's just as important for friends and relatives of residents to like a care home as the resident themselves. I have always been made to feel welcome, I am always listened to if I have any concerns or wish to relay my mum's wishes. I would never have thought I'd say this, I enjoy my visits, value the friendships I have made with Mums carers and have fun! which in turn means I visit more regularly.

Mum Died very recently, I will, of course, miss her, I'll also miss my visits to Bedford court and the protective arm it wraps around its residents and their families.

Thank you for your lovely feedback. We truly enjoyed getting to know your mum and family. Staff and I have had many memorable conversations with your mum. Your mum was extremely proud of her family. She loved talking with all of us about books especially Harry Potter, stargazing, gardening, buttons (she was fascinated by the intricate patterns of them) and general affairs. Your mum always made an effort on her appearance. She will be missed by all of us. As discussed we will continue to see you as you would like to volunteer. Thank you. We welcome the continued involvement of families in the home from the local community.

My mother spent the last 8 months of her life in this care home environment. At all times from her first initial visit, up until her peaceful departure, she was treated with respect, care and patience by every member of staff I have ever come across. The rooms are modern, clean and spacious and all
have an open outlook onto well-kept grounds or the central gardens. Because residents furnish their own rooms, it gives a more personal touch to the environment. Care staff were attentive and friendly with an approachable manner and nothing ever seemed too much to ask. Plenty of activities and entertainment were on offer for those able and wanting to get involved. Mum's end of life care by the home and community NHS was exceptional and the support given to the family as well made a very difficult time easier for us all.

Thank you for taking the time to provide such kind feedback. We are very happy to have met the needs of both your mother and family. We really enjoyed getting to know your mother, whose passion for owls was great fun. She shared many fabulous stories with us and clearly had an amazing family. We greatly appreciated the family sharing their musical talents for the benefit of your mother and other residents. The outstanding partnership with the end of life team really helped us all to support your mother to a peaceful end.. We miss her and look forward to seeing the family again when you feel ready to share your talents. “

My lovely nan has received the most compassionate, amazing, dignified care from the awesome staff at Bedford Court. The staff here define the word "care". The whole of our family has seen my nan in the 8 months of being at Bedford Court thrive and enjoy/get the utmost from the last months of her wonderful,
long life. I have nothing but the utmost praise for every person at this home who is contributing to or caring directly for their elderly people. They are amazing. Thank you.

Current Review Score: 8.8 (8.803)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.8 (8.803) out of 10 for Bedford Court (Olive Lodge) is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.270 for Bedford Court (Olive Lodge) is calculated as follows: ( (55 Excellents x 5) + (21 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (8 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 89 Ratings = 4.27

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.533 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Bedford Court (Olive Lodge) is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 42 registered maximum number of service users is 8.4. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.4 = 0.833

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
