My mum was at Pennington Court for almost 18 months before she passed away. She was well looked after by the staff and treated with kindness. As a family, we found the staff friendly and helpful, able to answer any questions we had, and address, if any, our concerns. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend
Pennington Court.

Reply from Kim Roper-Turton, General Manager at Pennington Court Care Home

My mother has been in Pennington Court for almost a year now. She is well cared for by all staff and any issues are dealt with in a timely fashion. She recently was taken ill and was adamant that she did not want to go to hospital. The staff did their utmost to avoid this and went above and beyond what
I would have expected. They kept a close eye on her and she was monitored via the 'virtual ward' at the home and kept me updated at all times.

My dad went here for respite in October but unfortunately fell and ended up in hospital after 3 days. The doctor in the hospital was unwilling for him to be discharged back to the home and kept him in hospital until I returned from my holiday. His condition deteriorated and he has now had to move into
permanent care which we had been trying to prevent. I had some initial concerns as the call button in his room didn’t work and there was no motion sensor in his room so the staff would know to assist him in the night but I was assured by the staff that wouldn’t be a problem. There was a mix-up over which room he was to go in and we had to move him from one to another. I passed on my concerns to the manager but she wasn’t really interested. I have also contacted one of the Senior Managers who was apologetic and sympathetic but I do regret placing my dad in there.

Reply from Paul Torrance, Operations Director at Pennington Court Care Home

I'm deeply sorry for the challenges your dad faced during his October respite at our home. We regret any distress caused. We take your concerns seriously, especially regarding the malfunctioning call button and the lack of a motion sensor. Our investigation aims to prevent such incidents.
We also regret the room allocation mix-up and the manager's lack of interest. We're rectifying communication issues to avoid similar oversights. Apologies for falling short of our service standards.
I appreciate your feedback with the Senior Manager. We're actively improving our processes and communication. Rest assured, corrective measures are in place.
Please be assured we have taken immediate steps to address your concerns.

Booked my Dad in for a week's repsite on the 1st of October. Initially, he was upset and wanted to come home, but did eventually settle with the encouragement from the lovely staff, although Dad couldn't wait to come home he still talks fondly of the lovely staff who looked after him. The home is lovely
and clean and the staff seem to love their jobs, nothing is too much trouble for them.

Pennington Court is superb. My nan has been here for nearly five years, and the care is phenomenal. The nurses and staff are so kind, and there are lots of familiar faces that have been there from the start. The food is good, and she's fed at regular intervals. She's turned at regular intervals, and
her care plan is constantly being updated. I'd recommend Pennington to anyone looking for a care/nursing home.

I have only been here a couple of months but find it so far very good. The meals are alright, just enough for me. I find it very good in more than one way that everything here is up to the standards that are required by law. No grumbles whatsoever.
Thank you.

My mum stopped at Pennington Court for one weeks respite care and required nursing care. In using nursing respite care for the first time we were naturally apprehensive. However, from our first visit to see the facilities and care afforded, we were very impressed. This experience continued throughout
Mum's respite care and gave us peace of mind. The communication was first-class throughout as was the attention to detail. The ‘feel’ of the nursing home was both professional and friendly. Mum really enjoyed her stay and we have booked Mum in for another two weeks from mid-June.

My husband was unhappy at the need for the respite care for myself. I was totally exhausted and this was his first respite. I'm so happy my husband came to Pennington Court Nursing Home - he's been very happy. Everything was first class and I hope he will be able to come back next time!
Thank you all
so much.

My mum has been looked after by this care team for the last three-plus years, and she enjoys a wide variety of activities that entertain her. Mum can also enjoy baking and crafts, bingo and quizzes. All the staff are friendly and approachable; they always show the greatest respect and care. The staff
treat Mum like a well-loved member of their family. The staff go above and beyond to the care of these working family.

I honestly can not recommend Pennington Court enough. The love, care and compassion shown to my beautiful Nan during her time living here was truly amazing. Myself and wider family visited her often, and always welcomed by staff and carers.
Her bedroom was cosy and comfortable, with her own belongings
making it homely.
My nan's care was tailored to her needs, helping to maintain her dignity yet also encouraged to keep her independence for as long as possible, with just the right level of care and input when needed.
We sadly lost my nan in December and the team were fantastic with us at this very sad time. We, as a family will be forever grateful. 100% Recommended.

I have now been at Pennington Court for three years. Firstly in the care home, then independent living. On the whole, I have found both the accommodation, care and staff to be most satisfactory.

My mum lived here for just over 6 months. On several occasions when I visited, she still had tablets in her mouth, on her tongue, unswallowed. There was usually a cup of drink on the table which she was unable to reach, so she was always thirsty. We asked many times for the hairdresser to perm mum's
hair but when we went it was getting cut far too short and not permed. On a visit on Thursday 5th May we pointed out swelling on her face, they hadn't noticed. Someone from GP surgery referred her for a scan. The next we heard, was Saturday 7th May, Mum was sent to the hospital, not eating or drinking. When I got there, Mum looked terrible, her whole face and neck were swollen and she was very, very ill. My mum was diagnosed with staph disease, this turned to sepsis, and sadly she passed away in the early hours of Thursday 12th May. My mum should have been sent to hospital on the Friday to receive antibiotics sooner. I put an official complaint in with the manager. Not heard anything since. Do not recommend!

Reply from Paul Torrance, Operations Director at Pennington Court Care Home

We take all comments extremely seriously and are very disappointed to hear about the concerns you had about your Mother's care experience at Pennington Court. Very poor service. Will harass the resident if payment is not made. Stay well clear, better ones around. Buzzer going off and no staff until 50 minutes later. Wouldn't put my dogs in there. Rude staff, poor and little food for the money.

Reply from Gail Lawton, Finance Director at Pennington Court Care Home

Thank you for your feedback. As your Mum has been living here since November 2020, we thought she was very happy with the services she is receiving. It is very disappointing to hear that you are unhappy with the care your Mum receives from us. We will of course be happy to investigate the points you have raised and will contact you accordingly. Whilst various discussions have been held over the last 12 months relating to a number of unpaid bills, we do hope that you will appreciate the need for clients to pay for the services they receive and we now thank you for settling the account.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (9.014)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (9.014) out of 10 for Pennington Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.459 for Pennington Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (67 Excellents x 5) + (20 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (5 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 98 Ratings = 4.459

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.555 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Pennington Court Care Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 53 registered maximum number of service users is 10.6. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.6 = 0.755

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
