I have concerns about my mum's care at Pennington Court Nursing Home Leeds. It is minimum care. There has been a couple of occasions when myself and another member of the family have had to go in and shower my mum, as she had not had one for a few weeks. My mum gets personal care twice a day, when they
get her up and sit her in her chair on a morning and when they put her to bed after tea. There has been an occasion when my mum was left sitting up in bed all night with her glasses on, no drink, no repositioning (which should be done every three hours) then ended up with a bad bed sore.
They always seem to be short-staffed and when they get agency staff in most of them do not have a clue about the resident or what they are doing and don't seem bothered.

Poor care provided to my mum who sadly passed away in this home. She was left in her underwear in a wet bed, dehydrated and unkempt. I was assaulted by a staff member while on a visit and I still have had no written response to the outcome other than a text message from the director.

I visit my mother-in-law regularly, which in these trying times, I and my family were always welcomed. My heart goes out to the staff with all the "Do's and Don'ts" which is hard for the residents to understand. We are extremely happy with the care my mother-in-law receives, she always tells us about
the meals being wonderful. I take my cap off to all the staff. Thank you.

The management keep the family informed of any changes or concerns with their patients. The carers are kind, helpful and they also give family member on how the patient has been and keep you informed of what was required each day, they are very knowledgeable on who and what they have had to do for each
individual patients.
If I could mark them out of 20 it would be 20.
They all do a great job.

My wife and I visited an aunt who is a resident at Pennington Court in early March 2019. We were struck by the warm, caring atmosphere of the nursing home, the exceptional professionalism of all the staff, and the very real sense of commitment and dedication. Pennington Court, in our view, cannot be
faulted in any way and is to be commended not only for the way it is run but also for the ways in which the needs of all the residents are so obviously met. There is throughout a very real sense of community and a willingness on the part of the entire staff to ensure that the well being of residents is, and remain, the first priority. We should have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Pennington Court unreservedly.

Although my dad only spent a couple of months at Pennington, we as a family were delighted that he was able to end his life there. The service, kindness and support provided by all of the staff and the manager was excellent through the time my dad was there and we are very grateful for that.
We would
highly recommend this nursing home to all.

Since my first announced visit to Pennington Court, I have been impressed by the friendly and caring nature of all the staff. Some rooms may look a little tired but I know from personal experience this is being addressed. Although the nursing home is not situated in one of the most salubrious areas
of Leeds I have found it to be very quiet with a central courtyard garden which is a little oasis of calm and peace. Ideal for watching the birds soaking up the sun.
Mum had one issue which was brought to the attention of the management and sorted out that same day. I highly recommend Pennington Court.

My father was a resident of Pennington Court Nursing Home for 5 months passing from residential care to nursing care before he died. The staff were excellent making my father safe and comfortable. Senior staff are always more aware of his condition and informed me of significant changes making me feel
we were in good hands. I couldn't praise them enough.

I can't praise Pennington Court highly enough. The loving caring staff, the quality of care, the food, in fact, everything about the care home. If I have to end up in a care home, I hope it's Pennington Court. We spent the last weeks of my uncle's life with him in the care home and they couldn't do
enough for us.

My Mother-in-law sadly passed away in October. She was looked after at Pennington Court for the last two years of her life. Prior to this she had been in a convalescent home she had a broken knee and the onset of dementia. We were very unhappy with the standard of care she had been receiving before
she moved to Pennington Court. Once here, after an initial setback due to her dementia and the move, she settled in and was well cared for and loved by the staff. I cannot praise all the staff enough for making her happy and contented during the remaining years of her life. The quality of care was second to none. She was always clean and well dressed and enjoyed the food that was prepared for her. My husband and I and our family were always made welcome. They contacted us whenever she was distressed or ill. She was treated with dignity and respect. We will always be glad that we chose Pennington Court and will always be in debt to the homes kind and caring staff.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (9.014)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (9.014) out of 10 for Pennington Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.459 for Pennington Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (67 Excellents x 5) + (20 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (5 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 98 Ratings = 4.459

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.555 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Pennington Court Care Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 53 registered maximum number of service users is 10.6. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.6 = 0.755

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
