Welcome to Fairburn Vale!

Fairburn Vale is a specialist care home in Castleford which supports people living with complex care needs as the result of neurological conditions including brain injury and stroke, complex mental health needs and physical disabilities.

The home is part of Exemplar Health Care, a leading provider of specialist nursing care for adults living with a range of complex and high-acuity needs.

Fairburn Vale has a trained team of Registered Nurses, Health Care Assistants and Life Skills Facilitators that care for some of the most complex and acute individuals, who would often be in a hospital setting if not placed in the home, enabling them to stay in the community and reducing hospital and secure facility admission.

The specialist nursing home, which has an in-house Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist, provides person-centred care and rehabilitation which focuses on building everyday living skills, maximising independence and empowering people to live as fulfilled lives as possible.

It offers longer term support for people living with life-limiting or degenerative illnesses, as well supporting people on their journey from being in hospital or living in a secure setting to community-based living.

The home also has communal dining and living space, as well as a therapy kitchen and physiotherapy room which provide a dedicated space for rehabilitation.

Fairburn Vale is surrounded by a large landscaped garden, that’s been designed with accessibility in mind.

My husband stayed at Fairburn Vale for a weeks respite. The staff and managers are lovely, nothing was too much trouble to ensure that he has a comfortable stay. Everyone was so caring and friendly. We would highly recommend Fairburn Vale, it's an amazing place. He's looking forward to going back, and
its peace of mind for myself knowing he is being well cared for.

Staff go above and beyond to not only meet my mum’s needs but to make it a real home. They always think about me and my sister and what we may miss out on by having our mum in a care home. Activities staff go out of their way to make outings and family gatherings possible, even changing their shifts
and working on days off to allow mum to be able to attend family parties and events. She is always really responsive when we are out and hands everything over to us with an explanation so that we feel confident taking care of mum when we are out. Other staff deserve a special mention too, including (one of mum’s key workers) and another carer. They have such an amazing relationship with my mum and our family, we feel like we can talk to them about anything, frankly and openly. All the staff overall though are simply amazing. Thank you! Mum is so lucky to be at Fairburn Vale. She has dignity, and social opportunities and is pushed to get better and be more independent as much as possible.

17th October 2023.
Fairburn Vale has been absolutely fantastic looking after my mum. My mum was diagnosed with MND 11 months ago. As a daughter, it was a very difficult decision to decide on what care home would be best suited. This place came by a high recommendation from the hospital, and I am so
pleased that Mum is here. I can sleep at night knowing that my mum is getting the best care possible and that she is getting looked after. My mum is looking healthier and is happy and getting the best care possible, Fairburn Vale also does events for service users and day trips. The staff and managers are so caring and always communicate regularly with family members. I really do recommend this place if you are thinking of putting a loved one here.

The care within Fairburn Vale is excellent. Each service user is treated with care and compassion. Activities include meals out and day trips so that the care user gets the most out of each day. Nothing is too much, and the food looks wonderful.

The care home is amazing, and they go above and beyond to ensure that my mum has the best quality of life. I feel so comfortable and at home every time I visit my mum, as every member of staff is so warm, friendly and personable. It feels like a family not just a place of work. I am so grateful for
all that the staff do for my mum and our family. We are very lucky that she is so well looked after.

Very clean and supportive home. My mother-in-law loves it, their staff are very friendly and always contact us with updates. Plenty of off days out and always happy to go that extra mile to help.

Recently we had a family wedding. Fairburn Vale went above and beyond to make it possible for our sister to attend not just for a few hours but for the whole day. Her hair and makeup were organised and a room at the hotel for her to get ready and feel part of the experience as well as for her comfort
needs. Her carers were amazing throughout the whole day taking care of our sister. We all had a truly amazing day, it was an absolute pleasure to have them at our wedding as our guests without people like them our sister would not have been able to attend. Fairburn Vale made this possible!

During two weeks of respite care, I was cared for by many staff, all of whom displayed a very caring and professional attitude throughout. They dealt with all situations with utmost dignity and care. Meals were varied and flexible in terms of timing and content and of good quality.

I can't grade this high enough from the top management down to everyone else. The staff are so dedicated, loyal and caring and make each resident feel cared for and special. Everyone always has a smile on their face. There is alway slots of activities going on. The carers always encourage residents
to be as active as their needs and disability allow. The home always smells nice and is kept in good order. Facilities are amazing they also have plenty of outings. We are very lucky to have found this home.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.767)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.767) out of 10 for Fairburn Vale is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.867 for Fairburn Vale is calculated as follows: ( (93 Excellents x 5) + (10 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 105 Ratings = 4.867

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Fairburn Vale is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 20 registered maximum number of service users is 4, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
