Castleford Lodge Nursing Home took our mum in when we were in a desperate situation where her previous residence refused to take her back after a spell in hospital, mid-Covid, as they said her needs were too great to cope with. Another care home agreed to take her then let us down the day before. Mum
has very advanced Alzheimer's so she needed round-the-clock help.
Castleford welcomed her. We have had issues along the way. But essentially the staff are always kind and willing to help. The facilities are fairly basic in comparison to where she was before but we now realise the important thing is the staff, not fancy surroundings.

My mother-in-law has just moved into the home and so far I can't complain, I have been kept updated on her progress by telephone and in person. Every member of staff so far has been friendly and helpful and my mum-in-law is settling well with a good range of activities to keep her occupied. Her room
is well appointed and cosy and I hope she will be really happy here.

The care staff are very caring and supportive, also under pressure, the higher management team leaves a lot to be desired. All staff at the home work under pressure, one item that required or requires urgent attention is someone needs to improve the phone answering service. It is nearly impossible to
get an answer.

My mum came here for 4 week's assessment. From day one her care needs were not met. She has to have a soft diet due to not being able to swallow due to a stroke. They brought her things like fish fingers and beans, sweetcorn, sandwiches, and soup that was like water and she was on thickened fluid. Had
to lay there on lots of occasions wet and soiled because we were told they don't change anyone around mealtimes and they brought her food and expected her to eat while uncomfortable because she hadn't been changed. We were told our standard of care was too high and that was said by the manager and also asked if mum had always been needy which is disgusting. Mum was in pain and uncomfortable so if that makes her needy where's the duty of care and that was also said by the manager. I feel for anyone in there with no family. Luckily my mum has and we have all worked in the care sector and are appalled at the lack of support for my mum. Thankfully we have moved her and she is getting the care, dignity, and respect.

My wife has been in Castleford Lodge Nursing Home for the past four months and as difficult as it has been for us to be separated, the staff have helped us both greatly. Everyone is friendly and helpful, maintaining contact with my wife via phone/WhatsApp when visiting was not allowed/severely restricted
due to Covid.

Our Dad did not spend much time in Castleford Lodge. But from what myself and the rest of the family had seen we cannot fault any little thing. From the staff, cleanliness, our Dad's dignity as he passed away only one week in this fan place. If only I got a chance to look around. The staff also thought
about him on father's day with a card and a small gift.

My mum has been in Castleford Lodge for the last 9-months, and I have to say, I wouldn't want her anywhere else. The love, care and attention they give her are second to none. They treat all patients like family. Words can not describe how amazing, and grateful I am for them looking after my mum as
she means the world to me and has all the care she needs. They deserve medals.

My wife has been in the home for a month now, so I can not comment on the second half of the scores. What I have seen with the wife is very satisfactory. She has been looked after better than what I can so, not for the lack of trying. At the moment, I miss not being able to see her for more than half
an hour a week.

My wife has dementia and has been a resident since June 2019. She has only been here for 15 months and has only been in one care home previously and this is 100% better. Staff are great. Food great, well looked after. If she could speak for herself I am sure she would agree.

My mum just moved here. The staff were brilliant, explained everything in plain-talking English, what you see is what you get and it is. Run by normal people who know exactly what people want and need. Can't praise them enough.

I don't usually write reviews but due to the excellent experience and care my family received from all the staff at Castleford lodge I feel compelled to reiterate our gratitude. My grandfather came to Castleford Lodge approximately 4 weeks ago on palliative care from hospital and sadly passed away in
the early hours of Tuesday morning. I was instantly taken back and impressed with the level of compassion, dignity and support my Grandfather received, he himself appeared to be happy in his new surroundings and enjoyed the interactions with the nursing team. This compassion also extended to the members of my family who were at his bedside throughout this traumatic time, I personally found them to be helpful and forthcoming with a very "human touch" about them. Thank you again to the fantastic nursing staff at Castleford Lodge at a terrible time for us.

I feel the carers and the care they give is excellent and feel reassured when I leave. I feel confident the care is individual-based. I am disappointed the garden area hasn't been updated as we believed it would be when she became a resident 12 months ago. I am also sad to know that the bus isn't as
available as it was - going out on the bus (I feel) stimulates and gives a feeling and enhances wellbeing.

My mother went to Castleford Lodge in June 2019 for palliative care. She passed away on the 15th June and during her time she was treated with dignity and compassion.


I am so pleased with the care she was provided with during the difficult time and we the family were also given a most courteous

and compassionate care package during my mother's last days.

My wife and I came to look round to see if the home was suitable for my mam, age 93. We were immediately struck how friendly ALL the staff were who, without exception, looked up from what they were doing to say hello or say a few words. My mam, for the first week to ten days, was a bit bewildered by
it all but gradually settled in and became close to a number of the staff and they to her.
Sadly she only had about 12 weeks in the home before she passed away having received excellent end of life care. I am extremely grateful to everyone at this nursing home for their professional care of my mam. I couldn't have asked for better. Thank you.

After having had an awful experience at a previous care home we arrived at Castleford Lodge with apprehension. However, from our arrival with my father, it was extremely obvious that this home was a happy and lively place to be. We were greeted with friendly faces who made us feel welcome and my dad

Nursing, care and domiciliary staff are very caring and supportive towards residents and their families. Activities occur regularly and are well organised and enjoyed by many residents. Food could sometimes be better, vegetables are often underlooked and pastry is too thick and tough.

When viewing for a nursing home for my sister, Castleford Lodge made me very welcome.
Everyone, carers, staff, nurses, gave me a lot of support.
Took me to the bedroom which was under decoration, which I liked.
My sister was accepted and arrived August 15th, 2017.
Yes, we have had issues, some which
could have been avoided.
It's like anything else, you get good staff and bad. Bank staff let the home down. They do not know the residents and come over less caring.
My sister has settled and since August last year 2017, I feel the home has come on 100%, everyone trying hard.
Still, a long way to go but I hope I'm right saying we will get there if everyone pulls together, lots to be learned.
They are our loved ones!

Since joining Orchard Care Homes, I've been lucky enough to work in several of our Yorkshire care homes, including Lofthouse Grange & Lodge and Nesfield Lodge.
