I am so pleased with the care my mum received at West Ridings Care Home she was so well looked after, nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff nurses, I felt I didn't have to worry about my mum when I left as she was so supported in all the needs she had. Staff were always popping in to check
on her if she needed anything. I cannot praise the home enough, I would recommend for anyone who has a loved one to stay at West Ridings as you wouldn't have any worries. Thanks again.

My mum was at West Ridings Care Home for five years. Four years on Calderdale and one year on Swaledale. The staff were extremely kind, caring and very compassionate. My mum received excellent treatment, and I was totally supported with kindness during my mum's final days. I have nothing but praise
for all the staff, and I made some lovely friends with residents families and the staff.

Reply from Laura Lambert, Home Manager at West Ridings Care Home

Thank you ever so much for such a lovely review. It was an honour for us to care for your mum. We have such special memories made over the last five years, especially her 100th birthday. She, and your family, will be greatly missed but you know you are always welcome to call by for a friendly cuppa and a catchup. Look after yourself and take care. Once again, thank you for your kind words.
Regards,
West Ridings Care Home.

The unit is very clean, has a friendly atmosphere and appropriately decorated for dementia residents. The staff really seem to care and treat my mum in a very respectable manner. They have lots of patience and generally are very kind and thoughtful.

My mother and father were in the care home together. Sadly my mum passed on three months ago. My dad is still there and has been for over a year now in Warfdale wing.
The care and compassion the staff show to all the residents is second to none, the rooms are well kept and very clean, the food is good
and plentiful, lovely grounds with a tea house and the care and compassion we received when my mum passed away by all the staff was fantastic. I would like to mention the matron on the wing, people like her are few and far. A lovely, caring, kind woman that goes above and beyond as do all the staff.

My step-dad was in Swaledale unit of the care home and was really happy being there, he was having end of life care and he was being looked after very well. He had been in two other units of West Ridings and liked them - once after an operation and once after a long hospital stay so was asking to go
back to West Riding if it was possible.

I have to say how much this home has improved. New manager, who came in March, has started to change the home. Staff are more uplifted and having help implement ideas. My friend is on a unit on the home and they had therapy ponies, breeding eggs to chicks at Easter, open day and a fabulous interactive
companion cat who is adored.
The home looks tidier and I have access to more information which has been made available.
The unit has had some environment changes and I hope the new report is better than the last as it definitely should be.

Recommend this home.

My husband has recently moved into West Ridings Care Home. The care he receives is excellent. The staff are caring, friendly and helpful.
Everyone is doing their best to make my husband comfortable, under difficult circumstances. Family and visitors are made very welcome too.
My husband is still settling
in but he is comfortable and looked after very well.

My father-in-law has been in the home a few years now and he is always happy and well looked after. It gives us peace of mind that he is supported and cared for. The staff are lovely and very friendly. Recently, his needs have increased and they do all they can to keep him comfortable. The staff are
always available if we have any concerns. We are happy that he is cared for by the Wharfedale unit.

I would like to thank the resident experience manager and the office staff for their speedy and efficient service. I called in the morning and by the afternoon someone had been to assess my mum and she moved into West Ridings Care Home within the week! My mum is in the Airedale unit and I am so pleased
with the manager and her staff for the care my mum gets. The rooms are clean and bright and every effort is made to make my mum comfortable and safe.

Mum was only in West Riding Care Home for a week but the staff were very caring and professional. The Swaledale unit was very clean and tidy but it was the staff that cared for mum that we will remember, she couldn't have ended her life in a better place.

I rang the West Riding Care Home with regards of moving my father-in-law. The Resident Experience Manager was very helpful and knowledgeable and she made our transition very easier and happy for my father-in-law. The day I spoke to the Resident Experience Manager, she said we were welcome to go and
have a viewing. Myself and my daughter went and we were gobsmacked at how clean and fresh smelling the place was. We then met the Unit Manager and she had a chat with us and made us feel very welcome. She showed us around the place.

The home is totally spotless and smells very clean. The residents are all clean and very happy and they are all together and they aren't left to their own devices. My father-in-law went in on Monday 30th July and for 3 months previous, he had just been lying in bed waiting to die.
The team at West Riding don't believe in residents staying in bed all day if they aren't well. The team are very well organised and they care 100% for the resident.

We were very concerned about the care my mother-in-law would receive when she had to go into a home. You hear many horror stories, however the care and consideration shown to our whole family has been exceptional. The staff have ensured she gets her favourite food to eat to tempt her appetite. They
have looked into her favourite activities and hobbies to get her involved and active. The care home is always clean and bright and everyone gives you a warm welcome. I would recommend the Swaledale Unit to anyone.

The care home is friendly and helpful. If there is a problem with my mother they phone me to let me know, and relate what action has been taken. Everybody works in together, that means staff and relatives of residents. If something needs doing, someone, whatever their position, does it.

The staff

keep trying to provide new activities and entertainment for the residents, they try to ensure their surroundings are pleasant and also relate to periods of their life before they went into the home ie local photos, old movie posters, steam engines etc. They try to provide medical a physically safe place to live.

I just thought I would comment on how lovely this home is and how nice it is to visit my cousin in difficult circumstances, he has Alzheimer's. The rooms always smell so fresh and are kept so lovely, it is a credit to all the staff members. We are always met with a smile and offered refreshments when
I and my husband go see my cousin. Thank you for being so caring.

The care my mother received on Wharfedale was excellent and it was individualised to her own care needs. She was treated with the utmost dignity and respect and the staff were caring and professional. The home was always clean and tidy and Mum would comment on how hard the staff worked and the number
of times the floor and surrounding areas were cleaned. Family members are always welcomed and informed in a timely manner of any changes to care needs.
The move into residential care was a difficult one for Mum but with the excellent support of all the staff was able to settle in very well.

Current Review Score: 8.2 (8.174)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.2 (8.174) out of 10 for West Ridings Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.0 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.152 for West Ridings Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (56 Excellents x 5) + (23 Goods x 4) + (17 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (5 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 105 Ratings = 4.152

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.022 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for West Ridings Care Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 180 registered maximum number of service users is 36. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 36 = 0.222

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
