St. Mary's Care Centre is a purpose-built care home situated in a residential area in Anlaby, within Kingston upon Hull, in the East Riding of Yorkshire.

They strive to ensure that Residents rights to dignity and self-respect are upheld at all times and that the Home maintains quality as a principal pursuit.

The home supports people with long-term nursing care needs and can accommodate a maximum of 60 people. Accommodation is provided in spacious, en-suite rooms with four different room designs. People living in the home are provided with a wide variety of communal spaces including lounges, a cinema room, a hairdressing salon, a physiotherapy room, a library and music room.

Being involved in what is going on and taking part in fun activities is an essential part of life. St Mary's approach to residential care focuses on ensuring that a wide range of activities and social events are regularly organised, such as functions and events, film nights, card and board games and many more.

Birthdays of residents are always celebrated and residents are encouraged to take part in the many activities available locally.

My mother has been at St Mary’s for a few months now, and I couldn’t be more comfortable and content with her care. She has multiple complex needs - both physical and mental that require nursing care and, most of all, compassion and patience. The whole team are supportive and approachable from the manager,
nursing leads and care assistant to everyone who works in the team. In recent weeks, we have needed to communicate intensely to manage her condition (recognising that she is still relatively new to the facility - the team wanted the best insights to assist them); the team have done an incredible job to engage me, and a whole host of other stakeholders and multi-disciplinary team to care for Mum at a challenging time. My husband was in St Mary’s for the last five weeks of his life, and he was well looked after by the excellent caring staff. I was also well cared for when I came in to sit with him - I very much appreciated the warmth of the staff and their kindness to all the family at a very difficult time.

Following the first visit for respite care, my husband returned for two further visits. At all times, we were impressed with the loving, kind, professional care provided by all the staff. The building was always clean and brightly decorated. My husband's room was lovely, looking out onto the garden.
The food was excellent. I was always able to speak to a knowledgeable person about my husband's condition - even late at night. The staff, at all levels, were always kind, helpful and supportive to me, while also being fully compliant with Covid restrictions. We have used various other residential and nursing homes in the area, and I would unhesitatingly say that St Mary's is far and away the best.

Our mum has been a resident here for nearly two years, so this review is well overdue. This was our first choice of a care home when making the decision to find Mum a permanent placement due to ill health. She had previously stayed at St Mary's for respite, and we knew she would be well looked after
here. The rooms are bright and sunny, the gardens are well-tended, and the communal areas are lovely. The building is always been cleaned and smells lovely. We have often commented that when we went in, it always had a feel-good factor. All of the staff are a credit to this place, and I must stress that they have been amazing in looking after our mum, from the carers to the nurses, the kitchen staff, the laundry ladies, the cleaners and the office staff and management. Choosing a permanent care home for a close relative is probably one of the most difficult tasks we have ever been faced with. We know that we made the right decision by choosing St Mary's. Thank you all so much.

My mother has been a resident since last October 2020, right at the start of the second lockdown. Although it has been really difficult for me with a lack of physical contact with Mum, the staff have done their very best to ensure Mum is happy. If there were any changes with regards to Mum; they contacted
me straight away, where they listened and acted on any of my suggestions.
Mum tells me the staff are 'fantastic', which is just lovely to hear.

St Mary’s have an ‘outstanding’ rating for ‘responsive’ in their CQC rating. In my recent experience, I can attest to that, even after a change of leadership. Have no worries, it is still well deserved. Following an email to the manager, I had a prompt and positive response, and a socially distanced
meeting with a member of staff and the manager was arranged for the very next day. I should add that the email was not to express any concerns. It was merely requesting feedback about Mum’s situation and to get some help of an administrative nature. Both these things were fully addressed in a positive and friendly manner, leaving me feeling much more settled. I have always been treated with politeness, professionalism and patience, never being made to feel like a nuisance by the staff at St Mary’s despite this being such a difficult time for everyone. I am grateful to all the staff for all that they have done and continue to do. Thank you!

My dad was admitted following a traumatic hospital period resulting in him no longer being able to live at his house. At the age of 98, this was all especially daunting for him, but as soon as he reached St Mary’s he felt reassured and cared for. All the staff were helpful and considerate explaining
things to me (his son) and the whole process of getting my dad settled in a safe environment came as a great relief. I can see how much happier he is now. The care he is receiving is extremely good and the staff work extremely hard to enrich the lives of residents, whilst also keeping them safe in these difficult conditions. To anyone faced with the difficult task of a relative needing to go into a care home, they should look towards St Mary’s.

I originally found this outstanding home after visiting many unacceptable ones. Their attention to detail in every aspect is proven by the fact that it has had no Coronavirus cases - visiting during this period has been made possible with carefully organised visits outside the building during the summer,
organised by a dedicated staff member. Now, as winter approaches, a new external access door into a spare room is being constructed with perspex protection between visitor and resident. Great peace of mind for us as family members.

My father has been a resident at St Mary's for around 10 years and during that time my family and I have always been impressed by the quality of care provided. The staff are professional and considerate. Many of them have been there for several years and my father has had the same named carer for almost
his entire stay. We have been grateful for this continuity of care. The staff are cheerful and friendly with the residents and families alike. The residents' rooms and the 'public' areas (dining room, lounge, library, reception etc) are decorated and furnished to a high standard and are always clean and well maintained. We have been particularly impressed by the decisions taken by Senior Managers and the actions of all the staff during the Covid-19 pandemic. Understanding the risk to their residents they didn't wait for government advice and went into lockdown early. They have helped relatives stay in touch via Skype or FaceTime and have introduced safe outdoor visits.

My mother has been in St Mary’s for three and a half years and in that time I’ve never had a reason to be concerned about her welfare. Every time I visit I am impressed by the politeness and professionalism of all the staff. There is plenty of parking for visiting and there is a kitchenette for visitors
to make hot drinks and I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone.
The premises are always kept very clean and fresh and the spacious outside grounds are always very well tended. It has a luxurious dining room that serves a varied menu, and the main lounge has daily activities or entertainment.
It gives me peace of mind knowing that my mother is being well cared for and is happy and content living there.

My sister, who has Parkinson's disease, was admitted to St Mary's in autumn 2019 for a period of respite care. At admission, sadly, her overall health was poor, as she had lost considerable weight and acquired a deep bedsore at her home in an assisted living scheme. The St Marys staff painstakingly
nursed my sister back to good overall health: an extraordinary achievement. Her bedsore has now completely healed and she has gained good weight. Most importantly, my family and I have absolute confidence in the staff, procedures and facilities at St Mary's. So much so in fact, that my sister is now a full resident. The light, airy, purpose-built facility has a pleasant atmosphere and its staff are caring, supportive and dedicated. Accordingly, we have absolute peace of mind that my sister is receiving the best level of care that can be provided. The lack of Covid-19 cases at St Mary's underlines, in my view, both the quality of their services and unerring attention to detail.

I have a very close friend who resides at St Mary's Care Centre. This home is a very friendly and pleasant environment. There is a good manager in place and all staff are very willing to help. This home is presented like a hotel and the cleanliness is of a high standard. There is a great variety of
food on the menu and the staff are very professional in all areas. The receptionist is very helpful, especially through this very trying time of Covid-19. (Stay safe).

My wife is bed-bound. She cannot take part in any activities because her bed cannot pass through the door! Hence, she is isolated for most of the time. This is most frustrating for her (and me). Generally, she is well cared for, most of the time. Obviously I cannot comment on the care when I am not
at the home, but all seems to be satisfactory. If my wife was able to exit her room, she would, I am sure, get a substantial lift in her life.

The manager and her team at St Marys have been part of mum’s life for the past 5 years. During this time the care team have treated her with love, kindness and consideration to the highest standard and we as a family are truly grateful. The home is beautifully decorated and exceptionally clean, always
making it a pleasure to visit. She is regularly encouraged to be part of the activities the home offer but also shown respect when she wishes to be alone. She is very settled and happy with her environment and always speaks very highly of everyone within the team.
At the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic, it was reassuring to see the home acting swiftly to put appropriate measures in place to keep their residents safe. We have been able to book Skype calls to ensure communication continues and we are confident she is being well looked after during this time.
We would highly recommend St Marys Care Centre.

St Mary's appears to be a very well run care home. The food always looks appetising and the menus are varied. My mum is happy and settled and well cared for. I have been very impressed with how the home has coped with the coronavirus pandemic. They enforced lockdown very promptly and their diligence
has proved very beneficial. The receptionist is always very helpful and mum enjoys the activities.

My mother has been a resident for approx 18 months and we are very content with the level of service provided. The transition to a care home should not be underestimated however all the staff provided great support through this period. They are always available to assist as are the reception staff.
This is a modern building, purpose built, all on one floor which makes it easy for residents to get around. The gardens are well maintained and ideal for sitting out if only the weather was better. There are a number of activities for residents and they can be as busy or quiet as they like.

I currently visit 2 elderly friends who have been residents for a few months and are extremely content there. There are always activities in which they enjoy participating. Also, my mother was a resident there for 7 months (she died 18 months ago) and again she and we were very pleased with the care
she was given. The home has a very welcoming environment, the food is good, there are lovely gardens where they grow some food and the residents can help if they wish.


I have been a visitor to many homes in this area over the past few years and this is the only one I would recommend.

The admission of a loved one to a care home is usually a last resort, as it was in our case, when my father could no longer look after himself and his family were unable to meet all of his needs satisfactorily.
It is a daunting prospect but we were fortunate enough to have St. Mary’s nearby.
My father
was a resident of St. Mary's Care Centre for five and a half years as a result of advanced Parkinson’s Disease.
St. Mary’s appealed as it is a modern, purpose built, single storey building. This suited my father’s mobility issues and meant that he could use a motorised wheelchair relatively easily.
During the five and a half years, my father received very good care and formed good relationships with the staff. One thing that did strike me was how low the staff turnover was at St. Mary’s. Many of the carers and other members of staff who were there at the beginning are still there which is highly beneficial for both residents and family.

My 91 year old dad, who had lived with myself and my husband for the last 12 years, went into St Mary's care home in May after we found it too difficult to give him the 24 hour care he needed. From the outset, the staff were wonderful with him. Nothing was ever too much trouble and nothing fazed them.
In the short time he was there (he sadly died two weeks ago) they not only looked after him but gave him love and attention and made me feel that he was special to them. Although he was very frail he built up a lovely rapport with all the staff.
I have nothing but praise for the staff in the home and I know they made my dad’s final few months as comfortable and as happy as possible.

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
