My aunt has been in Preston Lodge at Saltshouse Haven since August 2019, and I have always been impressed at the way she has been looked after, with the kindness and attentiveness of the staff towards her and other residents.
Every time I have visited, there seems to be someone cleaning, and the residence
is spotless and smells clean, and the carers appear to be attentive, warm and friendly to all of the residents.
I live abroad and have no problems in calling and being able to speak to my aunt, and they have been very fast in advising me if she has any extra health issues.
My aunt used to be in and out of hospital all the time when she lived at home with bladder infections, but I think she has had to make just one visit in the past 2-years as they are very much on top of issues, which gives me great peace of mind, especially in these difficult times.
They also have a Facebook site with videos and photos posted regularly, and it's nice to be able to see her looking healthy

My mum was transferred to Salthouse from the hospital, and I would like to say thank you to the staff for the kindness and care while looking after her. The communication with the family was excellent. I would like to give a big thank you to one lady for always making mum look so beautiful. Overall,

My mum was taken to Salthouse Haven after a stay in hospital. Unfortunately, not long after she had to be placed into palliative care and passed away. The staff took care of both Mum and our family extremely well.
Mum wasn’t there for long and didn’t get a chance to take advantage of any of the activities
on offer, but we are all sure she would have enjoyed it there; we felt it was a lovely place. All the staff we encountered were friendly and genuine, and their care and support were very much appreciated by all of us, and they enabled us to be able to spend some more precious time with her no in her final days.

My father is well looked after. They do lots of activities they do with them every day to keep them entertained. He has a lot of friends, which is a blessing during the pandemic as we can only do window visiting.

Would just like to thank all the staff at Bilton House for their support with my mum. Although we cannot enter the home, the staff always ensure window visits are made as easy and meaningful as possible. Her room is always well kept. She always looks clean and happy, with brilliant activities that meet
their needs, which they post every day on Facebook. I've also received personalised gifts, which is touching. I've seen you on the news numerous times for your amazing efforts! You're all angels on there. As a nurse, I know how challenging it can be under normal circumstances, but you all seem to power through; worth your weight in gold, thank you.

My mum moved in several weeks ago as we were no longer able to keep her in her own home due to her Alzheimers starting to take over. The staff have been fantastic, we now know mum is safe, cared for, eating properly, bathing etc, everything we take for granted ourselves. Despite Covid and not been able
to see mum properly, the staff post daily videos and pictures on their Facebook page and mum pops up quite regularly, which is great to see, especially as she is smiling and doing different activities, which she never did at home! Thank you to all the staff, your hard work and dedication does not go unnoticed and is massively appreciated by all my family.

Fantastic care, lots of activities. It's a pleasure watching the Facebook page. The staff have really stepped up to the mark. Always keeping in touch informing of any changes. The celebration of Easter, Halloween and Remembrance Day were all well organised - the staff must have worked so hard.

The staff go above and beyond for the residents and they are always available to discuss any concerns we may have or they are always promptly informing us of concerns they may have. I am more than happy with the care and attention they give to all residents living there especially the care given to

My aunt has been a resident of Salthouse haven for over a year much of which we are not allowed to visit because of the current situation. But as for the care she has received l cannot praise the staff enough, a lot of them go well beyond the call of duty. And l wouldn't hesitate to recommend this home
to anyone.

The carers are lovely and our loved ones are looked after very well. Throughout lockdown, we have had daily updates, photos and videos. There have been so many wonderful activities put on for the residents: pampering, arts and craft, making food and Halloween fun to name just a few. They have links
with the local community: local nursery children make cards and send them to our loved ones, who make cards to send back, and the ice cream man visits in summer. There have been video calls in lockdown, so we still have contact with our loved ones and the carers have remained happy throughout despite the additional challenges and responsibilities that they have had to deal with for 9 months now... and continuing. I would recommend Saltshouse Haven to anyone, it’s like one big family. Good sized rooms, all on the ground level.

I had concerns about my mum going into a care home as I felt she might deteriorate. However, she has flourished, and I feel that this is down to the excellent care she receives there. The staff are so friendly, and I feel they go above and beyond doing their job. I cannot praise and thank them enough.

My father came here needing some respite, unfortunately, he only spent a few weeks here, but during this time, he had lots of fun activity days which we were shown/updated on. He also had a few hospital admissions which were picked up very fast thanks to the team looking after him. He was unable to
walk or communicate and suffered a stroke and was picked up on by the staff, and we were contacted and updated throughout even during the no visiting because of covid etc. Sadly my dad lost his battle, but from all of his children, we are very very thankful for the care he received in his last weeks and also the support afterwards. Thank you.

Caring staff both to the residents and their family members. My mum lived there for two and a half years until her death in September. The staff are amazing, nothing is too much trouble and they treat the residents like family. I cannot thank them enough for looking after mum so well that I got another
two and a half years with her, which meant she got to see her 4th great-granddaughter. My grandchildren have been able to make memories with her. In mums last weeks, the staff were so kind and caring. They were all genuinely upset when mum passed. Thank you.

My Mum was in Saltshouse Haven for end of life care. The home itself and the staff there were amazing. My Mum was so well looked after, and the staff really cared for Mum. It's a lovely, friendly place, with lots of activities going on for the residents. I'm so pleased I chose this place for my Mum
to spend her last weeks.

Salthouse Haven was the best place to put Mum in her final months. The team showed nothing but care and dignity. The team were amazing in their care of Mum, and they went over and beyond with Mum, I can't thank you enough.

The carers in Preston Lodge at Salthouse Haven have been amazing looking after my grandma. She has been with the care home now for two years and the care has been outstanding, all the staff listen to any worries and concerns that we have about my grandma, will always ring us to keep us updated with
any new information regarding her care and health. I could not thank them enough for everything that they have done and are continuing to do for her.
During the lockdown, we have been able to have video calls with her and have been allowed to visit my grandma as she is now receiving end of life care. Thank you.

I just want to thank the carers at the home from the bottom of my heart, they looked after my mum for a short time from January to March. My mum was 91-years-old, sadly passing away in March. These ladies could not do enough for her. Her room kept clean; she was made very comfortable.
The home is welcoming
and the residents, whenever I visited, had smiles and looked well looked after.
My mum was in the lodge; a bit thank you, ladies!

Mum was passed from one building to another, they could not cope with her dementia. She could be difficult at times but this was due to her illness. They preferred if the resident just sat in a chair all day and was not challenging.
My mum had plenty of clothes but very rarely was actually in her own
clothes, several times I asked about her clothing.
Mum has now passed away, some of the staff were caring but when I went to collect mums belongings a male member of staff was packing mums clothes in the room, radio playing and him singing, this was a day later after mum passing. This was very disrespectful. Her ornaments, the few she had had been broken, her clothes thrown in a case, her watch was missing and her Chanel No 5 perfume. Also several coats and new bootie slippers that had been bought her at Christmas. Overall, very poor and I would not recommend anyone to put their parent into this home. Not enough staff that actually cared about the job, a few did.

Donna has over 40 years of experience in the health and social care sector. Initially, she trained as a nurse, then became a midwife, working in the NHS for over 20 years.


She then joined the private sector, working for care home providers in various positions, caring for and supporting elderly and frail residents, many living with dementia.


Donna has a wealth of knowledge and experience in the care sector and has made significant improvements at Salthouse Haven during her time, including raising the standards of care and support for residents.
