I have been living here for approximately 18 months. I feel that this is a happy and caring home. All are welcoming and I am assured of all the help and caring. Tried to the best of my knowledge to give an accurate review of my knowledge and encourage other people to come here and experience the joy
of living here (great grub).

I look forward to going and enjoy it when I'm there. I have ups and downs but that's emotional. Food is beautiful and varied and everyone is very helpful and can't do enough for you.

Mum has been living at St Mary's for three years. She suffers from dementia and needs specialist care. The staff at St Mary's look after Mum very well and are genuinely interested in her. They know her well and so know the care she needs and deserves. St Mary's is always clean and tidy. The home offers
a variety of activities for the residents and takes them out for day trips to places of interest. The hairdresser who visits weekly is friendly and compassionate and a great asset to the home. I would highly recommend St Mary's.

My aunt has been in the home for about 18 months now and she has really settled in well. She likes all the staff especially the activities coordinator who goes out of her way to help her. Overall I would recommend the home, it's a lovely home.

After a few initial teething problems, which are inevitable when someone has to live somewhere else, staff listened and they were resolved. My mother is content and the family are happy.

My wife has been in and out of St Mary's Care Home for the past 6 months. During this time, we have found all the members of staff very welcoming, caring, tentative and informative to myself, family and more importantly my wife. During this short stay, she has encountered several emergency admissions
back into the local hospital, but we have been informed appropriately and in a timely manner on each occasion all staff being supportive during these times. Food menus are varied and residents offered alternatives if necessary. The entertainment programme is also varied and special events celebrated on a regular basis. The manager has also been supportive and informative during our transitional period and we as a family would certainly recommend the home to others.

The only issue we would raise is perhaps having a photo gallery in the foyer/reception so all members of staff are easily identifiable so families are aware of residents key workers.

After my mum died in 2017 my priority was to find the best care home I could for my dad. I have no regrets placing my dad into St Mary's. The staff and management are all very approachable, helpful, caring and supportive both to my dad and all his family. The facilities and activities are excellent.
Every time I visit my dad it is very clear that I have made the right choice and this is peace of mind for us, his family.

Daily care requirements are well met. The most important thing for me is staff engagement. They are considerate and caring towards residents. This does not waver even when busy and demands are high. The teamwork is excellent and the staff professional, warm, friendly and well managed.
The rooms and
standards are very good, however, some rooms need a little more colour. The corridors are a welcome sight, vibrant and interesting. Always stop to look! Got to mention, food options and tea trolley are discussed whenever I visit. Mum always relays how good the food and choices are, also careful consideration is made for residents personal preferences and variations on dish, a favourite line of mum's; "Nothing seems to be too much trouble."

My dad came here just after Christmas he is very well looked after and cared for. My dad is safe here and that makes me feel happy.
I don't worry about him as much as he is very unsteady on his feet and if anything was to happen to him he would be looked after and helped.
His room is very nice and
clean and he enjoys the company and mixing with people. At the end of the day, he is safe.

My father was admitted for emergency respite just before Christmas 2016.
He received such excellent care and consideration that he has now opted to become a permanent resident.
As a family, we have observed significant improvement in both his health and general well-being.

The care, compassion and dedication showed to my mother and father was excellent and although sometimes my mother gave them challenges they were still brilliant in all that they did for her. Also with dad they were so patient with him and always helped him when required or if he asked for it. The care
home is a good example of how care should be given, managed and run. Excellent in every way.

I have found the staff extremely caring and helpful with mum (who can be difficult) They answer alarms fairly quickly and are eager to please. The home is kept clean and tidy at all times and there are a number of activities for the residents to join in. The food is always well cooked and appetizing
and the kitchen is immaculate. My one concern is that the residents are mixed together but as my mum doesn't yet have dementia she finds being with some of the residents quite difficult.

Current Review Score: 7.8 (7.840)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.8 (7.840) out of 10 for St Mary's Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.6 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.271 for St Mary's Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (32 Excellents x 5) + (4 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (7 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 48 Ratings = 4.271

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.569 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Mary's Care Home is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 47 registered maximum number of service users is 9.4. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.4 = 0.319

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
