My mother-in-law was a resident in Nicholas House for 32 months and in that time all the staff showed love, care and kindness to her at all times My mother-in-law was on end of life in the last month and sadly passed away on 7th December 2024 age 99 and I was touched by their kindness not just to her
but myself as well nothing ever seemed too much trouble for them.
We had visited other care homes in surrounding areas but were impressed with how clean Nicholas House smelt so decided that's where she would be.
In my opinion, Nicholas House is an outstanding care home. All staff including carers, chefs and cleaners are superb. I would recommend this care home to everyone.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your care and love given to my MIL

An outstanding care home that showers each resident with dignity, love and respect. Every one of the carers, chefs and cleaners is superb. My mum was able to keep her pride and dignity until her last day. We will be forever grateful to the home and were delighted to call them our friends.

Over the two years, my wife has been in the care home, I have seen improvements when they changed the manager. The staff from management through all departments are absolutely wonderful. The care they give to the residents is the best. I can go home not worrying about my wife because I know she couldn't
be in safer hands. Top marks to Nicholas House Care Home.

I was my friend's carer before she had to come into Nicholas House from the very beginning. Myself and her family have been very pleased with her care. The home is a very friendly place and the staff are always there either for the residents or their family.

My Mum went into Nicholas House after having been in hospital for six weeks.
Mum couldn't walk, eat, hold a conversation, in fact, she couldn't do anything.
Now a year on and she is a totally different person.
She joins in with the activities, holds conversations with the staff and residents and
enjoys the lovely meals that are cooked on the premises.
The staff at Nicholas House go above and beyond their jobs.
They are amazing, lots of time for residents and also residents' families.
I can't thank them enough.

This review is based on the few month's a very frail, elderly friend with dementia was there.
I found them to be lacking in basic manners and respect for the elderly and their belongings ie. on the day of arrival, no greeting, no introduction, not shown his room.
Personal belongings when taken in,
were left lying on the office floor for days.
The home was not well led, inefficient and unprofessional, ie. occupants clothes mixed up, important paper's lost or misplaced.
I also found the home to lack initiative where after the first few weeks, my friend was left in his room all day, every day in the same place or lying on his bed.

Mum has been a resident at Nicholas House Care Home for just four weeks. During this time she has settled very well and this has been helped by the attentiveness of all the staff team who have been very responsive to her needs.
I have found the home and staff to be very welcoming with a very homely/warm
atmosphere.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.8 (8.811) out of 10 for Nicholas House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.9 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.936 for Nicholas House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (44 Excellents x 5) + (3 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 47 Ratings = 4.936

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.875 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Nicholas House Care Home is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 8 = 0.5

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
