My husband is very well cared for. The carers are very nice and treat him very well. He enjoys his food and his room is very nice.

I found being a visitor to a good friend most pleasant and welcoming, the hospitality by all the staff extremely gratifying.

Do not allow loved ones to be "looked after" here.

Staff allowed my grandma with dementia to exit the building in an unsecured exit. Not one member of staff even noticed she was gone. A member of the public had to return her to the home. Again not one member of staff even bothered to contact any

one of us in her family. We found out because I saw the lady who found her in the middle of the road post a status on social media!!

Disgusting lack of care. The website needs updating... “imagine the peace of mind you’ll feel knowing your loved one is being cared for in a safe, happy and enjoyable environment” really... alone and lost in the middle of an extremely busy road. Again, disgusting.

Mum resided at Sycamore lodge for 11 months until she moved to another establishment at her request and with the full support of family members. Sycamore Lodge appeared to offer so much at the beginning of her stay but the reality turned out to be very different. The carers were kind and all worked
incredibly hard and did their best in often difficult circumstances. There was no regular or sustained programme of activities during her stay. Occasional special events, e.g. a keyboard player was provided and enjoyed.

Sycamore Lodge seems to adopt a reactive as opposed to a proactive approach to most matters. Throughout her stay, there were issues around housekeeping, personal care and medical matters. Only as a result of family members being able to visit often were those identified and so able to be raised and then usually resolved by individual members of staff. Mum has fond memories of the friends she made and the carers who made that possible.

During the time my Mum has been resident at Sycamore Lodge, her physical and mental health have improved significantly and I believe that this is due to the high level of care which she receives. My Mum has told me that she is very happy there and would not like to live anywhere else. My experience
with staff and management has been very positive throughout her time there. An excellent care home.

Sycamore Lodge is a bright and cheerful care home. The staff have all been wonderful, with the care and nursing they have given my mother who is 96 years old.
Her room was very pleasant and well furnished with a TV.
The food was very colourful and well presented and a lovely variety every day.
Her
laundry was quickly sorted and returned fresh.
The lounge area was nice and sunny with plenty of seating and TV's.

Overall care good, but sometimes rushed. The cleaners were professional in their jobs often under difficult difficult circumstances. Domestic staff maintained a high standard of cleanliness. A criticism would be that often the food was not hot.

My Mum has only been here for a few days. It is only short term. She is very happy and relaxed. The staff can't do enough for her and us when we arrive. She loves the food, also especially the plate of biscuits she gets with her cups of tea. Lovely place.

The staff are very approachable and friendly, however, I feel there is a break down in communication between staff members themselves when passing information on and informing family of action plans for concerns and monitoring this with regards to the resident (Mum). The chef is excellent, enthusiastic
and cares so the residents are fed very well. More activities or entertainment are needed, not enough music being played. I suggest turning the bar into a music room.

My cousin has Alzheimer's and his wife a neurological disorder. Their care needs are very different and complex. They have lived at Sycamore Lodge for 12 months and their care has been exemplary.
The home is beautifully decorated and well maintained and comfortable. We have experienced nothing but
excellent support and care as needs have changed. The food is well prepared and presented with choices for all meals. Relatives are encouraged to be included in various activities eg the recent pantomime and wonderful buffet for residents and guests.

Every care is taken to make residents happy and content and to reassure relatives in every way necessary.
All meals are excellent with everything possible done to provide suitable food that each resident likes and needs. The food and cooking of meals are the best.
Activities can be difficult to provide
as residents are very limited with age (over 90 mainly) or have little attention span. But there are good attempts to supply what is needed.

Mum seems to look forward to going and seems happy enough when she comes home. I get reports about how she has been, which is mixed, due to her condition, most of the time she seems to have enjoyed her day.

My mother was a resident of Sycamore Lodge from 2007 - 2018. I cannot speak too highly of the quality of care she received. A big thank you to everyone, past and present, who had contact with her and for their help.

My mother was treated with care and dignity. Nothing was too much trouble. We were often given information relating to both the home and Mum's health and well being.
Owners, manager and staff were all professional, friendly and caring.
Housekeeping was good. Nurses monitored Mum regulatory for pain,
discomfort and bed sores.
Our family felt Mum was very well looked after. Sadly Mum has passed away.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.418)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.418) out of 10 for Sycamore Lodge Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.940 for Sycamore Lodge Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (78 Excellents x 5) + (5 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 83 Ratings = 4.94

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.478 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Sycamore Lodge Care Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 45 registered maximum number of service users is 9. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 9 = 0.778

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
