Bilton Hall Nursing Home is a 58 bedded care home which provides residential and nursing care for older people and people living with dementia. A new manager has recently been appointed and residents and relatives can be assured of the continued, excellent standards of care and high-quality facilities in a beautiful tranquil setting.

The home, which is situated in an old manor house, one of the oldest buildings in Harrogate, is set in seven acres of landscaped gardens with extensive lawns, flower beds and mature trees with panoramic views over Knaresborough. There are a range of sitting areas with chairs, tables and parasols to enable the residents to enjoy the outdoors, with a dementia friendly area.

This Jacobean former manor house has up-to-date facilities for up to 60 residents, with all rooms having private en-suite facilities. There are beautiful lounges and dining rooms together with some 'quirky' areas giving residents plenty of spaces to sit and enjoy the company for friends and family.

A person-centred dementia unit has recently been completed offering expert nursing care for people living with dementia. There is a dedicated activities co-ordinator who has developed a programme, offering a wide range of entertainment and activities to suit all tastes.

Situated conveniently between Harrogate & Knaresborough, Bilton Hall offers 24-hour nursing care to residents in a homely, compassionate environment and prides itself on its delicious home-cooked food.

Following a broken hip operation, my mother was transferred to Bilton Hall on an interim care bed placement. Whilst here the staff provided a good level of care within a culture of respect and commitment to adapt to specific needs e.g her sight improvement all the team aimed to provide the best level
of care and the catering and support staff, in particular, were kind and helpful. The manager and deputy manager were also proactive in helping to arrange transfer to a downstairs room which was quieter and more appropriate and this helped ensure a peaceful passing.

Mum was admitted to the nursing home during the Covid-19 pandemic so it was difficult to assess things at first. Our experience when restrictions were lifted was that the staff were friendly, helpful and caring. Mum enjoyed the food and the social activities. Her room was always clean and when mum was
diagnosed with end of life the nursing care was outstanding.

My wife, who has Alzheimer's, has recently moved into Bilton Hall. We looked at a number of homes but felt Bilton Hall had the most homely atmosphere where she would feel comfortable. All the staff were very welcoming and helped her to adapt to her new home, and settled in quickly, helping her and making

This end of life home is a disgrace. It’s a very profitable care home yet the owners seem to not invest fairly. Should have been on a tv documentary programme.
Tonight I witnessed tinned spaghetti on white toast as food for someone who is dying. This is not nutrition.
Looking at the most recent accounts
I could find online their profit margins were in the high 30% region. Having grown up in a nursing home I know some of the economics of it. This is a clear case of underinvestment. Shame on the owners.

My mother arrived at Bilton Hall Nursing Home in the last stages of dementia. She was not an easy patient to care for both physically and mentally, however, the care she received was first-rate. All the staff were caring, compassionate and considerate, whilst maintaining high professional standards.

The most outstanding thing about Bilton Hall is the staff are always friendly, helpful and treating residents with respect. As an overseas service user, times have been extremely challenging due to the pandemic; it has given me great peace of mind to know Dad is being well cared for. It has also been
a joy to see video clips on Facebook in previous months and see him dancing or engaging in activities with others. Skype has been a huge bonus when I was unable to travel. On occasions during my visits, Dad has loved going outside in the beautiful grounds.

As I was not allowed into Bilton Hall until the 31st of March, then as a "caregiver", I found the last 8 months extremely upsetting. I had no idea what my husband's room was like and knew very few members of staff. I was finally allowed to see him as a caregiver for 4 visits and then the home was locked
down for 28 days because someone tested positive. I found this even more upsetting and frustrating and we were both distraught. I was finally allowed back in, in May and could see the deterioration in him over those 4 weeks. Now I am allowed inside I am happy with his care and the staff are kind and helpful. I think the restrictions for care homes over the last year have been extremely cruel. My husband and I have been married for 53 years and have never been separated before. It has not been the way we envisaged spending our last months together.

My mother was in Bilton Hall for just under 6 months at the beginning of 2021.
The care she received from everyone at Bilton Hall was exceptional; which is the most important thing.
The care team were exactly that - caring; as well as being kind and courteous to family and friends. We got to speak
with the nursing team whenever we wanted and they were the same names and faces every time - which was great for Mum as she got to know all the people there.
Due to Covid, visits were difficult but always well organised and ensured that all protocols were observed.
In the last few days, the home was very sensitive to compassionate needs. The accommodation and grounds at Bilton Hall are great.

My mum entered Bilton Hall with a full hip replacement, postoperative delirium and 3 1/2 years with advanced Alzheimer's. She stayed there for 5 months until her death in May. She was much calmer and happier in a caring environment than she had been at home. The staff were fantastic - kind, available,
helpful, and always got back to you. We were kept up to date on my mother's condition and I couldn't praise them too highly, I would recommend them to anyone.

It was my first visit inside to see my brother since his admission on transfer from hospital last July 2020. We had an outside meeting in August in the garden. We are/was welcomed kindly. The visit went happily and was given privacy (not a problem), carers and administrators were attentive to requirements
and friendly. Also on the telephone or skype meetings. The room was clean and my brother is comfortable. He has lost his mobility.

Job Title: Home Manager

Lin is Bilton Hall’s Manager and has several years of experience. Her main interest and experience are in managing successful care homes housing elderly and frail Residents, some of which have mental health issues. Lin is very experienced in the management of care homes and is committed to providing a high–quality service.


She is ultimately responsible for the effective and professional running of the care home but will allocate time to discuss any aspect of our Resident's care or any problems they may be experiencing. Lin is keen to work closely and in partnership with our Residents, their relatives and significant others to benefit the Residents in her care. She is a dynamic team leader and has an ongoing interest in professional development and career progression
