I was more than impressed by this care home. As soon as I arrived I was greeted by a friendly and welcoming member of the team, and I couldn't help but notice that it smelt distinctly clean and fresh. What particularly delighted me was the heart warming rapport between the ever present carers and my
friend, not to mention the rather tasty looking cheese scones that were baked in house by the chef. The best care home I have visited.

On our first visit, when choosing a suitable home for our dad it was clear, this was the place we should choose. The staff were very very friendly and open laughter could be heard in the residents lounge and the place was, clean, tidy and the residents family all welcomed us. The care dad gets is amazing,
we are allowed to call any time (along with dads dog who visits) The staff are always available for help and support, they understand the needs of each patient and it's clear they've got to know all their residents. The outside area/garden at the back is loved by all the residents, dad loves to get out everyday if the weather is good or enjoys sitting the conservatory and watching the activity lady come in and do activities with the residents.

It is a full year since my mother went to stay at the home, she is happy, contented and well looked after. The staff are very caring, which gives the impression of being part of a large happy family! The matron and senior staff are very approachable and always have time to sit down with you and have
a chat about your family member who is resident there. As I live over sixty miles from the care home I know that all her needs are being met and don't need to worry! Many thanks to all the staff.

I have found this home to be excellent. All the staff are very caring and attentive to my wife's needs. The food and accommodation are first class and the activities organised also good.

When I needed to find a care home for my mother over a year ago Greenwell House was my immediate choice, having been made aware of it through an existing resident. The staff at all levels and roles couldn't be more friendly, caring, and considerate towards my mother. The rooms and the home in general
are spotlessly clean and the food is excellent with a good choice of menu. Visitors are also made very welcome. Because there are only approximately 20 residents, each one receives first choice attention and care from quality staff, they also have a very good residents call button system. I am more than happy that my mother is being properly looked after at Greenwell House.

I am so pleased I chose Greenwell House for my Mum. Initially she was not the easiest of residents to care for but over time she has settled well and that is without doubt due to the patience, kindness and high standard of care she receives from all members of staff. I am always made welcome and kept
well informed of any problems or changes to Mum's care needs. Greenwell House is a small care home but it is homely and the staff soon get to know you and the residents very well. They become your extended family. I simply could not wish for better for Mum.

As soon as I walked into Greenwell House Nursing Home I knew this was the place I wanted my mum to move into when it was decided she could no longer cope living on her own. Greenwell House is homely, welcoming and spotlessly clean. The staff are professional, caring and friendly. My mum's personal daily
hygiene care is dealt with with dignity and kindness. The food is excellent and other residents agree. If there are any problems a member of the nursing staff will contact me immediately and keep me updated and informed at all times. I am confident to know my mum is in the very best place.

My family and I found the decision to support our mum to move into a care home very difficult. However mum settled into Greenwell House so well, receiving such compassionate care from an excellent run home from the manager to cook, housekeeper. My family and I were always made so welcome whilst visiting
(my grandchildren loved to visit their nana biscuits and juice) I remained confident that my mum received only the best professional help with regards to her social and complex health needs. Always found only the best of best qualified nurses and quality staff were plentiful on duty (not seen in many other homes) I could always walk away knowing my dear mum was happy and safe. Sadly her stay was much shorter than predicted. Mum died on 2nd November 2015, support was well received from the staff.

Both my parents are residents at Greenwell House. From the start (now over a year for my mother) the staff have been unfailingly courteous and kind, and sensitive to their needs. My mother settled very well, somewhat to our surprise, and struck up a good relationship with the staff. The staff are always
patient and will take the time to allow residents to express their own views or needs. My father has different needs but all tasks are done with cheerfulness and in a caring way. They respect his desire for privacy and some time on his own. Some facilities are limited by the nature of the building but they make good use of what they have. As I can only visit at weekends there may be more activities than I am aware of. The staff are always very welcoming when I visit, and communicate with myself and my sister about any changes or particular needs. No one would choose to live in a care home, but if some level of nursing care is needed, then I would strongly recommend looking at Greenwell House. The care provided is excellent, and allows the residents to retain their individuality and have some quality of life despite their particular needs.

My mother moved into Greenwell House a year ago. At the time, the deterioration in her health and in her dementia was very sudden. The managers and staff were very helpful, and made what was a very difficult time much easier as they were all so friendly and helpful. Over the year, I have found out that
the friendliness goes on and on. All the staff, in all the roles are constantly friendly and helpful. The manager and nurses have their office right in the middle of the ground floor - when means they know what happening all the time - and they want to know what is happening.

Later in the year, my father had a stroke and has moved into Greenwell House. He has had more ongoing healthcare needs, and again these have been dealt with with dignity yet still in friendly way. The staff have kept me in the picture, and I wold recommend Greenwell House. The building is quite old-fashioned, but it is the people who matter!!!

Current Review Score: 8.8 (8.750)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.8 (8.750) out of 10 for Greenwell House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.0 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.750 for Greenwell House is calculated as follows: ( (29 Excellents x 5) + (5 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 36 Ratings = 4.75

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Greenwell House is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 20 registered maximum number of service users is 4. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 4 = 0.75

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
