My age approaches 88 and I still own a home with my wife in Harrogate where she still lives. She is aged 88.
I value the meals provided but, in general, would prefer soup as the started always. I would also prefer desserts to offer ice cream or yoghurt!
Activities are improving but there is room to
improve.

The staff make Hampden House I cannot praise them enough they are superb, a happy, caring and kind group. Excellent food is served daily and domestic and laundry staff do a great job. The rooms are looking a little tired and a few more activities would be appreciated. Overall I personally am happy at

Excellent care and attention to my mother and the immediate family during her short end of life stay at Hampden House.
The staff were very attentive and understanding towards her needs making staff both pleasurable and comfortable.
All members of staff and management extending outstanding sympathy
and support during the time of bereavement to the family.

I have been a resident here since September 5th and in the three months of my residency have found the staff to be extremely kind and caring. As I am unable to take part in some of the activities, I have not completed the questions. The ones I have attended I enjoyed very much e.g. armchair yoga, Scrabble,
creative writing, gardening, quizzes.

I have been a resident for one week, having had a one-month trial run, in July.
This traumatic move was, for me made easier by the kindness and seemingly genuine understanding of all the staff. Friends warned that nothing is perfect, perhaps not, but I am happy with whatever this is.

Excellent initial impression. My father has been a resident for less than 2 weeks. The initial assessment was very friendly, sensitive and thorough. A room for respite care in the first instance was arranged very efficiently at less than 2 days notice. All the staff go out of their way to help and the
atmosphere is warm, welcoming and caring. Aids for my father's very poor eyesight e.g. tactile marker on his door, coloured plates are helpful. I cannot comment on the entertainment as my father has had visitors and outings with family, so has not experienced this yet. He and we are seriously considering long-term residence; a tribute to the high quality of the care he has received to date.

This home is professionally run, clean and welcoming. I have been overwhelmed by the standard of care, compassion and warmth shown consistently by all staff towards my father and my family.

Moving from your own home to a care home is not easy. It takes time to get used to the change but in my case, it had to be. I am getting settled slowly. All the days seem the same and I find it rather boring at times. Events are organised which helps.

I stayed in Hampden House for a few weeks care 5 years ago. At that time it was buzzing with lively and fairly able residents. I came back here in November 2017 (hopefully temporarily) for rehabilitation after breaking my shoulder. There is still a very caring, cheerful and helpful staff. The food is
excellent and the building comfortable and pleasant. However, at the present time the building seems to have moved closer to a convalescent hospital situation. There are many more bedfast residents and many confined to their rooms or wheelchairs.

A very comfortable home with excellent care staff and various activities provided if required, such as exercise classes, painting and flower arranging classes as well as entertainment. The food is very acceptable, good, plain, food, laundry is provided daily and returned the same day.

The nursing care is constant and excellent giving encouragement and helping without forcing. Personal cleanliness maintained to a high standard. I speak with staff constantly and information is freely given regarding my husbands condition.

My husband was moved from the hospice and I chose Hampden House having visited several homes. The room was pleasant clean and light with handy en-suite. However he was soon bed bound. Initially the care was indifferent some care workers, bank nurses lacking technical and real experience and he never
complained. However after sharing our worries we were rewarded with very good competent nurses and carers. Sadly he died as he had a brain tumour, but he had been cared for by kind caring loving people.

Laura

Laura Newall

Job Title: Registered Manager

Joined: 2001

Laura Newall is the Registered Manager at Hampden House. With over 23 years at Hampden House, Laura’s career has progressed from carer to senior carer and then Head of Residential Care. Holding NVQ Levels 2 and 3, as well as a Level 5 Management and Leadership qualification, she brings extensive expertise and a deep commitment to resident well-being. Laura aims to enhance residents' quality of life while fostering the professional growth of her team.


Jane

Jane Hooren

Job Title: Deputy Manager

Joined: 2020

Jane has spent her whole career in the Health and Social Care Sector. Initially working as a care assistant in the community and in nursing homes, Jane later became a Care Manager and Health and Safety Manager for a private care agency where she taught First Aid, Moving and Handling and Fire Awareness.


After qualifying as a Registered Nurse in 2012, Jane became a Staff Nurse on a medical ward at Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust and was subsequently promoted to the role of Rotational Ward Sister. In 2016, Jane joined Hampden House as a Staff Nurse, was subsequently promoted to the role of Unit Manager and then to Clinical Care Manager and is now Deputy Manager.
