As my dad would say 'It's like a 5-star hotel'. He loved the carers, who would sing his favourite songs that he played. My dad felt safe, comfortable and happy, which is more than money can buy. Thank you for taking such good care of my dad until the very end.

The care my father has had since arriving has been 100% first-class. The nurses, carers and caterers all show great respect to my dad, they can't do enough for him. As in many cases, I have never had a parent go into a home before and all the staff have made Dad's and my own transition easier. The cleanliness
of his room and the entire home is spotless.

My mother was transferred to Nightingale Hall from another home and we instantly found a difference in standards. It was as if she had moved to the top of the league. The standards are high at Nightingale, the staff are lovely but also very professional. From the moment we were shown around, the feeling
was all the boxes had been ticked. The manager was brilliant and again very professional. My mum settled very well and her health has now improved as well. We are very pleased with the situation all around.

Big thanks to all staff, as everyone who has been involved in my sister's care have been wonderful with her and myself. Real genuine care. They kept in touch with myself and the hospital for updates when she was in there recently due to a fall and have really tried hard to keep her comfortable on her
return. They couldn't do more.

My dad came to live at Nightingale Hall due to failing health and was very upset the first evening, the care staff were brilliant with him. He settled so quickly after that and loved to have a joke with the staff. He really enjoyed his time there and he especially loved the food.

Nightingale Hall Care Home is a suberbly run home, staffed by caring, loving staff. I count my mother as very lucky to be a resident there, and I know that she feels cared for, loved and very safe. The food is lovely and very plentiful with lots of treats from gin and tonic to cake. I would not want
my mother to be anywhere else.

Staff are welcoming and polite.
Always have time for my mother, although not this year, when the transmitter was down a member os staff gave her access to her streaming account so she could watch TV. If I'm visiting when the trolley comes round. I'm always offered a tea or coffee.
My mother's room
is always very clean.

My mum has very much enjoyed her three and a half years here, especially the company of the others, the activities and the entertainment acts. The staff are really friendly and helpful. Always nice to see a cheery face, even if it is behind a mask. I do feel that communications both with staff and visitors
could be improved. I have been told different things on a number of occasions. There has been no official information about the relaxation of rules recently. Not answering the doorbell is another issue. There are easily rectifiable issues, and I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this home to anyone.

My son and myself have been very impressed by the standard of accommodation at the care home. The staff are extremely dedicated and nothing is too much trouble. The various facilities are far more than would be expected.

Please don’t leave your loved one here. My mother is 95 and has been diagnosed with dementia and in January 2021 I had to find somewhere for her to live safely. She was admitted on the 29th and on the 30th she walked out. The police, the home, and her family were informed that she was missing, she was
found by the police wandering around Richmond after an hour, not a good start.
On the many occasions that we visited mum over the next year in the pod due to Covid, we found that she was usually wearing somebody else’s spectacles, shoes, and clothes. We told the staff, and the usual reply was I never dressed her today. We took her many pairs of new socks during the time she was there but never seemed to be wearing any on checking there was no sign of them.
In April this year, we were called and told that mum had fallen and was being taken to hospital with a suspected broken hip. She was operated on the next day. During visits, the bell for assistance rings and goes unanswered. Strong urine smell.

My mother was diagnosed with dementia and was admitted to Nightingale Hall in Richmond in March 2017. During this time, she was cared for and supported by the staff. During the pandemic, she was kept safe. Unfortunately, Mum had to be put onto end-of-life care. We as a family were supported by the staff
and Mum was given respect and dignity, which we all appreciated.

Throughout my dad's stay at Nightingale Hall, he has been extremely well cared for and very happy. He regularly commented on how good the food was and how well the staff looked after him, even though he was very immobile and needed lots of help. I have visited my dad every week in the visitor's pod,
which was easy to arrange. It was very reassuring to know that my dad was being well looked after, including any medical needs that he had. Couldn't ask for more.

All the staff were fantastic. Friendly, caring and compassionate with my mother and understanding to the family at such a difficult time. The room and lounges were clean and we received a warm welcome whenever we visited. We can't fault the home or the staff at all and would recommend the home to anyone
looking for a place to reside, be looked after or have support for a loved one. Thank you for all you did for our mum!

Both mum and dad are nowhere and both have been extremely well cared for by the staff. Mum is getting involved in all of the activities and to hear she had been on a day trip when she has been virtually housebound for several years is amazing! Dad sadly is not too well and the staff have gone beyond
my expectations. The GP call-outs and referrals for physio and speech therapy, pain management, bed care and diet welfare are all done within hours and before I asked. All done to ensure dad's progression back to health or to keep him comfortable. Visit requirements are clear and well managed and whilst dad cannot be at home at this time I am so pleased he is in a place that is genuinely showing great care and attention to his needs physically and mentally. Living a distance away, phone calls are never a bother and the staff keep me updated with regular calls from them as well. Exceptionally reassuring and couldn’t ask for more.

My first experience of the home in terms of the admission process was positive. There are a number of things which I think they do really well with and a number of things which annoy me. The things they do well is; when the right person finds out about a concern or complaint they respond to it quickly.
The aspects which they would need to improve on are as follows:
1) Whilst the experience of the pre-admission assessment was positive; there was a gap between what they say they ordinarily provide and what is actually provided during Covid times and it would have been more honest to say this.
2) Provide rationale and guidance around when and how restrictions around Covid-19 will be lifted. Whilst it prides itself on no Covid-19 cases, there is a massive cost to this. They would do well to embrace the 1948 WHO Definition of Health which includes, not just the absence of disease.
3) Providing no fresh flowers in the room is not acceptable, it's mean.

Although very delayed, I did feel the need to complete this review form. I have brought my elderly mum to visit her older sister a number of times in the past. We have always been treated with respect and welcomed like long lost family (staff we have never met before recognising mum as a sibling
on familial resemblance alone)! It is a lovely home from home and I have rarely visited a home that is as well-staffed, not just in numbers but also in the caring and obvious training that the staff have which is sometimes lacking elsewhere. The choices of sitting areas make visiting a very homely experience and not frightening as some can feel when unaccustomed to visiting care home settings - although social distancing and the measure that have had to be put in place will restrict such types of visits for some time to come but the garden pod is a step in the right direction. The acceptance of familiar pets (and a lamb once) to visit is also welcomed which is lovely to see.

The visit was good. We used the pod in the courtyard, which is an excellent way of keeping everybody safe. My mother seemed happy and in good spirits. She was very relaxed in the company of her carer.

My Mum has been in Nightingale Hall for over four years. Although she has dementia, she is settled, happy, and content. Throughout the COVID crisis, the staff and management have been amazing, keeping me and the family informed and more important keeping Mum safe, healthy, and happy. All the staff really
do care about their residents and deserve full credit for their dedication. The pod is a recent innovation and has made such a difference to us all. Although I still can't give her a hug, we can see each other, chat and sing together, and most vital, we can all stay safe from COVID. Thank you Nightingale Hall.

Sonia

Sonia Metcalf

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 2014

Sonia has worked for Wellburn Care since 2014, starting as a Care Assistant at their Nightingale Hall home. Sonia has since progressed within the company, being progressing to a Team Leader and Deputy Manager, before being promoted to Home Manager in 2018 at their Glenholme House home in Roker. In 2021 Sonia then relocated back to Nightingale Hall in Richmond, returning now as Home Manager where she has built up a loyal, dedicated and caring team.


Sonia has worked in the care industry since 2008 so she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her role and her team, and has achieved her NVQ Level 2 and NVQ Level 5 in Health & Social Care.

Kaye's career with Wellburn Care homes began in 2014, starting as a night shift Team Leader at Nightingale Hall. After a transition to the day shift, Kaye was then promoted to Deputy Manager in February 2018. Kaye is the beating heart of the home, having been at Nightingale Hall for an impressive period of time she is well received with staff, residents, families and professionals.
