Over the time my Brother was resident in Oaklands he was treated with care, consideration and friendliness. He obviously enjoyed the company of all staff and chats with them and took part in some activities. He enjoyed the food. Having been a keen gardener all his life he enjoyed chats with the staff
about plants etc. and regularly told them how to care for the chickens!! I was very grateful for the care shown to my Brother while he was in their care.

The overall experience is good and staff do seem to care about residents. Sometimes staff mix could be better, too many young staff on together. Perhaps the staff could try to engage EMI residents in activities better. I have noticed a lot of falls, slips etc. of residents lately and they don't seem
to be with suitable shoes in-situ. Otherwise, they really are trying to make it better. The manager needs to listen to relatives better and act on agreements made.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I will address the issues raised, as it is important to us that we work with residents and their families to give a high standard of care.

Oaklands is a lovely place to visit - always a warm welcome from all staff. My uncle is very settled here and is well cared for and always treated with respect.
There have been several staff changes in the past few months but this has not affected the care offered - in fact, there is a much more 'homely'
feel to the place now. Would definitely recommend.

A recent change in management has led to a few noticeable changes around the home, which I feel has improved what was already an excellent care home, to make it a more "home from home" residence for the residents. My uncle is safe cared for, well nourished and has a good level of personal hygiene, administered
with respect. Oaklands Residential Home is a nice place to visit where we are always courteously received regardless of when we turn up. Most certainly would recommend.

Oaklands is a homely, friendly, efficiently run care home. The Manager and staff are approachable and attentive and there is a genuine feeling that they care. My Mum enjoys the interaction with the staff. There are good activities available, a choice of tasty food and visitors are made to feel welcome.

My father has been a resident at Oaklands Residential Home for several years. Earlier this year he was quite ill and the staff were very prompt in getting him medical attention and care at the local hospital. They made every effort when he returned to Oaklands to improve his health, and he is now physically
better. He has always been treated with respect, care and friendliness by the staff.

Oaklands is a wonderful care home on every level, the staff go out of their way to help, show kindness to residents. There are lots of activities on a daily basis - also some residents are taken on days out. Unfortunately my mum is too ill to appreciate all the events and activities but I must say that
she is always shown dignity as she has to have all her daily needs done for her. The staff never rush her and help her with feeding and drinking and talking to her and giving her time and peace. I always recommend Oaklands, as a care home they can be very proud of their achievement.

I have been very pleased with the care my mum has received. Christmas was made a special time for the residents and a lot of time and effort put into the Christmas Fayre. The carers seem to be interested in residents and always seem to be happy there. There are daily activities which many residents
take part in.

Since my husband came to Oaklands he has been cared for with great competence, dignity and affection. Not only have his interests been attended to but my concerns have been addressed and my wellbeing thought about. Altogether I cannot praise the staff and the facilities too highly.

My mum has been in this home for approx. 2 years. I feel the home has improved over the last 12 months. Rooms don't smell anymore, new carpets, I appreciate it is very difficult with the elderly. My mum is happy and I leave her knowing the staff care for her and interact with her. The activities that
are organised are excellent and mum interacts and makes nice things. Well done to the team at Oaklands.

Staff who are always in close contact with those in their charge, keeping them supplied with drink and refreshment. Activities provided for all to take part. Also TV for all to view in the common room which is overlooked by a kitchen which is continuously staffed but kept safe from entry by residents.
Bedrooms are spacious and kept well tidy with toilets as well as being warm and airy.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (8.982)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (8.982) out of 10 for Oaklands Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.700 for Oaklands Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (52 Excellents x 5) + (16 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 70 Ratings = 4.7

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.282 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Oaklands Nursing Home is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 44 registered maximum number of service users is 8.8. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.8 = 0.682

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
