St Mark’s Court Care Home serves a community that was once dominated by shipbuilding and many of the staff and residents have lived in the area all their lives. This explains why there’s such a warm, communal feeling there. Staff, residents and their families have many shared experiences, which helps staff to build meaningful relationships with residents.

Visitors to St Mark’s Court often remark that it is very homely. This could be down to the warm greeting every visitor receives but it could also be the fact that every bedroom is different, as residents are encouraged to give their room an individual feel.

Residents at St Mark’s Court are encouraged to be busy and active, and they are helped in this by the energetic and creative activities co-ordinator, who supports staff and also has strong links with the local community.

The Salvation Army holds a weekly lunch club. A dance teacher comes once a week, as well as an artist. Students from the local college also do sessions on memory with residents and help them to create a story which they can write down and retell to the others.

St Mark’s Court takes part in ‘HenPower’, a project that creatively ‘hengages’ older people in arts activities and hen-keeping to promote health and wellbeing. Residents enjoy relaxing with the hens, which they may put on their knee, place their hand on them to settle them and then just sit quietly.

In general, residents get involved in a host of activities around the home, from laying tables to the gardening club.

The staff at St Marks ensure the residents are safe and well. The staff are the Saint in St Marks. It is a proper family atmosphere not only for residents but also the families. There is always something for them to do on a daily basis plenty of entertainment and activities.

The staff at St Marks are absolute angels. Our mam passed away on the 4th May after a short illness and my sister and myself stayed at the home for 8 days and never left her side. The staff not only lovingly cared for our mam but us too. Even after she passed they knocked on the door before entering,
so respectful. It's a big decision placing a relative in care but I wouldn't hesitate in recommending St Marks Court.

My mother in law has lived at St Marks for four and a half years. She loves living here and has enjoyed getting involved in all activities the home has to offer. She has loved all the staff on different floors and is treated with respect and dignity.

My friend and I looked at various care homes and was about to give up when someone told us about St Marks Court, we instantly took notice and had a look around. We instantly loved the look (it wasn't a show home, like some). It was clean, friendly and fresh. We were taken around straight away and details
were taken. The nurse in charge and the manager then visited my Auntie who was in hospital and had a friendly chat with her and her social worker and made arrangements to go into St Marks Court. The staff are friendly, caring and standards are very good.

All staff have come across as compassionate and caring. The 'duty' nurses always give me a full report on my friend's state of being. The place is kept clean and tidy and the staff are conscientious in maintaining my friend's hygiene.

Was sent here from the hospital after I fractured my ankle as somewhere to stay until the necessary adaptions were made to my own home. Stayed here just over a week.


I loved it. The staff were all friendly, the home itself was very welcoming and the other residents were easy to talk to.

get the perfect mix of your own independence with the knowledge that staff are there if you need them.


I was a bit wary when I was told about being sent here, a lad in his mid-30s being sent to a care home, but in truth, I didn't want to leave when my time was up!

My aunt had an emergency tracheostomy and at 93 years of age and with cancer of the larynx she could not continue to live alone as she has previously done. This was mainly because of the level of management required for the stoma and also her possible deterioration in ability secondary to the cancer.
This
happened quickly and was very traumatic. Her daughter (my cousin) and I looked at various nursing homes. Over the phone on our initial contact St Marks was positive, sounded able and experienced when asked if they could manage a trache. Not all homes contacted were the same. The home has helped my aunt come to terms with her present situation and settle in although she would of course prefer to be in her own home. All in all a good transition.

All the staff were exceptional when my mother needed two separate respite stays to recover from two broken hip incidents. They were professional, caring and very friendly making my mother feel at home. She loved her stay and was sorry to leave.
