The Evergreens Care Centre is a recently refurbished, medium-sized, 43-bedded Care Home, located in the quiet residential area of Forest Hall, Newcastle Upon Tyne.

The ground floor, named by the residents at The Cypress Suite, has 17 bedrooms. It is senior carer-led and is dedicated to supporting those with residential care needs.

The first floor, named by the residents as Redwood, has 26 bedrooms. It is nurse-led and is dedicated to supporting those with both nursing and residential care needs.

The home delivers high standards of person-centred care for all residents and prides on working in partnership with residents and their families to ensure that life at The Evergreens is tailored to meet and wishes of the individual.

In March 2019, the CQC inspected The Evergreens and found the service to be Good in all areas.

My mother-in-law was a resident five years ago and I recently volunteered at the summer fayre and BBQ. There was such a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, I was amazed at how many staff and their relatives turned up, especially on their day off. It was a beautiful, sunny day; it was great to see the
children and the residents interacting and enjoying the activities. So very different from previous visits. I have no worries about returning and will help out again in the future.

I offered my help at the Summer Fayre and Barbeque at Stephenson Court in Sept 2018 where I ran a tombola to raise funds for the resident's fund.
On arrival, I was a little early but was kindly offered a cup of tea and then enjoyed a chat with the residents once they had finished their lunch.
The
Fayre was the first event for a very new management team and was my introduction to them, staff are so kind with the residents and chatted with them, many came to support the home on their day off. The weather was good and residents, families and friends enjoyed the garden, there were some animals to handle, stalls and a Barbeque beautifully prepared by the chef.
I was impressed with the cleanliness of the home but more importantly, just how happy the residents were, there's a real family atmosphere in this home! I'm looking forward to the next event which is a Halloween party and will be popping into the new Friday morning coffee mornings when I am able.

This is an excellent care home now. Nothing like it was a year ago. Everything has changed and continues to change and change for the better. Can’t recommend it highly enough. Lovely group of people with patience and big hearts!

During the time of the troubles at Stephenson Court, I have to say that my mum's care was never affected in any way thanks to the good staff all around who must have been feeling the strain and worrying about their jobs and possible closure.
When we take mum out, she always asks if she is going home
which is a good recommendation for the care she has received and still receiving. It is good for us as a family to know this. The home has a lovely homely atmosphere and very friendly. We thank the wonderful carers, they are totally undervalued.

My relation has been in Stephenson Court since 2017.
New management and staff have started and improvements have been made. I am very grateful for the care and attention my relation receives. All the carers treat my relation with dignity but some go out of their way to make sure my relation is comfortable
and content.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Stephenson Court to look after and care for your relation.

My husband visits the home more than me but we both agree that this home is a relaxing and pleasant environment to live in. It always looks and smells clean. The staff are so friendly and patient and very caring and always make us feel welcome. The bedrooms could be a little larger but they are cosy
and very clean. Nothing to complain about and plenty to be grateful for.

After all the negative press about this care home, it's about time people step forward and give the nod to the massive transformation lately. New manager and new nurses and smiles on the faces of happy staff. The manager has given Stephenson Court a real boost and the team speak very highly of him.
My family have seen this home at its worst and the difference is night and day. Residents are well cared for in a quiet, calm home by staff who genuinely care and are passionate about what they are doing. Lots of positive changes that are obvious to see and I have no reason to criticise at all. They deserve so much credit for making Stephenson Court into a lovely place for people to live and also to visit. Me and my family thank you all.

My mam has been in this care home for over three years and I'm so happy how they have looked after her.
Every day we go in she is always clean and tidy. The staff are all so helpful and friendly. I have no complaints at all.
All the staff are so sociable, from the cleaners, carers, office staff and
management. They are all very approachable.
No problems from day one.

The home has been under special measures since October 2017 shortly after my wife was admitted. As a result, occupancy has been around 50% of capacity and this has also been a time where a high number of agency staff has been employed meaning a lack of continuity in both nursing and care staff.

Those

staff - nurses, carers, housekeepers and catering who have been present throughout have shown an appreciative level of dedication and compassion.

My mum was a resident for just a short time. The care, attention and love shown to my mum was excellent in every way. Without the care she received we couldn't have managed. The staff went out of their way in every detail. At the very end, two members of staff stayed with us and explained what to expect
which made the process easier to handle and at the end, the love shown by all staff was above and beyond duty for which we will be eternally grateful and have no hesitation in recommending Stephenson Court to anyone in the same situation we were in.

We were made very welcome.
The team are friendly and professional.
Good systems seem to be in place.
The team currently in place would benefit from more staff being recruited - I believe current vacancies are being advertised.
The food is very good - a varied diet including vegetables, fish and
chip Fridays and a Sunday roast!
Entertainment is provided along with social support.
Everyone seems to care about the residents, which is reassuring.

Despite being unable to cope independently for some time now, my aunt was eager to remain at home. After a couple of weeks at Stephenson Court, she has acknowledged an inability to remain in her home and has stated she is happy at the facility.
Now request is too big and all the staff are extremely
friendly. The food is wonderful.

My sister entered Stephenson Court straight from the hospital. She has a long history of heart failure. The care my sister received from every member of staff was first class. She settled in very quickly due to the care and attention she received. We the family, were most grateful knowing she was well
cared for and we also were well looked after with cups of tea, coffee and biscuits. We were kept informed daily of my sisters health issues and had every confidence that she was kept comfortable. Cannot thank them enough.

Current Review Score: 8.8 (8.826)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.8 (8.826) out of 10 for The Evergreens Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.528 for The Evergreens Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (40 Excellents x 5) + (30 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 72 Ratings = 4.528

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.298 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Evergreens Care Centre is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 43 registered maximum number of service users is 8.6. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.6 = 0.698

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
