Mum has lived at Garden Hill for 2 and a half years following a stroke. Her care has been excellent in this time. Despite a lot of changes in management and staff over the last few months care has continued to be great with little disruption to routines. We hope activities will improve with the appointment
of a new activities organiser recently. Thank you for treating my mum as an individual.

My father has been a resident here since February last year. She is fairly independent and hoping to move back home. Garden Hill have helped to organise visits to his home and considerations of his needs back in his own home. They always provide company to travel with him to hospital appointments that
we, his family can't attend and if a meal is needed early, or has to be postponed he is looked after appropriately. He is always greeted and addressed by staff.

My mother came here on 21st Dec 15 following a long stay in hospital due to a fall. (Which took place in hospital). Twice I was told my mother wouldn't make Christmas, this upset me a lot. Since being at Garden Hill my mother has a new lease of life. She has a better choice of meals which she thoroughly
enjoys. She is getting new teeth, glasses and has her hair done every week. The staff are lovely with her. Thanks to them all.

My Grandma experienced the best care from everyone in Garden Hill. They made her feel part of the family as well as us. Couldn't have asked for better staff making sure my Grandma was comfortable and in a friendly environment. Couldn't fault anything they did for her.

After spending several years in a different care home in South Tyneside, which was very basic and didn't seem to provide personalised care, my grandma was transferred to Garden Hill for nursing and dementia care. The staff from day one went above and beyond their call of duty to ensure they prioritised
what was important to her. They made sure she was up, dressed and out of her room partaking in a huge range of scheduled activities, including singing and dancing, visits from pets, arts and crafts to name just a few. The care home manager was outstanding from the offset, my grandma grew a bond with her and we would often find her sitting with her drawing and making craft items. In her final days the team looked after us as much as her, explaining in detail what to expect and making sure she was comfortable. Not and hour went by when we weren't checked on to ensure we were all comfortable and any questions we had were answered. The Garden Hill team gave my grandma the best last months we could have asked for, words can not describe how grateful we are.

Current Review Score: 8.6 (8.583)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.6 (8.583) out of 10 for Garden Hill Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.9 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.708 for Garden Hill Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (37 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 48 Ratings = 4.708

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.875 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Garden Hill Care Home is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 8 = 0.5

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
